Recently, deep learning-based salient object detection (SOD) in optical remote sensing images (ORSIs) have achieved significant breakthroughs. We observe that existing ORSIs-SOD methods consistently center around optimizing pixel features in the spatial domain, progressively distinguishing between backgrounds and objects. However, pixel information represents local attributes, which are often correlated with their surrounding context. Even with strategies expanding the local region, spatial features remain biased towards local characteristics, lacking the ability of global perception. To address this problem, we introduce the Fourier transform that generate global frequency features and achieve an image-size receptive field. To be specific, we propose a novel United Domain Cognition Network (UDCNet) to jointly explore the global-local information in the frequency and spatial domains. Technically, we first design a frequency-spatial domain transformer block that mutually amalgamates the complementary local spatial and global frequency features to strength the capability of initial input features. Furthermore, a dense semantic excavation module is constructed to capture higher-level semantic for guiding the positioning of remote sensing objects. Finally, we devise a dual-branch joint optimization decoder that applies the saliency and edge branches to generate high-quality representations for predicting salient objects. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed UDCNet method over 24 state-of-the-art models, through extensive quantitative and qualitative comparisons in three widely-used ORSIs-SOD datasets. Federated learning (FL) trains a shared global model by periodically aggregating gradients from local devices. Communication overhead becomes a principal bottleneck in FL since participating devices usually suffer from limited bandwidth and unreliable connections in uplink transmission. To address this problem, the gradient compression methods based on compressed sensing (CS) theory have been put forward recently. However, most existing CS-based works compress gradients independently, ignoring the gradient correlations between participants or adjacent communication rounds, which constrains the achievement of higher compression rates. In view of the above observation, we propose a novel gradient compression scheme named FedDCS, guided by distributed compressed sensing (DCS) theory. Following the design philosophy of separate encoding and joint decoding in DCS, FedDCS compresses gradients for participants in each round separately while reconstructing them at the central server jointly via fully exploiting correlated gradients from the previous round, which are known as side information (SI). Benefiting from this design, reconstruction performance is significantly improved with fewer decoding errors also iterations under the identical compression rate, and the total uploading bits to achieve model convergence are considerably reduced. Theoretical analysis and extensive experiments conducted on MNIST and Fashion-MNIST both verify the effectiveness of our approach. © 2023 IEEE.

Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide,significantly impairing motor and cognitive *** rehabilitation is often hindered by the heterogeneity of stroke lesions,variability in recovery patterns,and the complexity of electroencephalography(EEG)signals,which are often contaminated by *** classification of motor imagery(MI)tasks,involving the mental simulation of movements,is crucial for assessing rehabilitation strategies but is challenged by overlapping neural signatures and patient-specific *** address these challenges,this study introduces a graph-attentive convolutional long short-term memory(LSTM)network(GACL-Net),a novel hybrid deep learning model designed to improve MI classification accuracy and ***-Net incorporates multi-scale convolutional blocks for spatial feature extraction,attention fusion layers for adaptive feature prioritization,graph convolutional layers to model inter-channel dependencies,and bidi-rectional LSTM layers with attention to capture temporal *** on an open-source EEG dataset of 50 acute stroke patients performing left and right MI tasks,GACL-Net achieved 99.52%classification accuracy and 97.43%generalization accuracy under leave-one-subject-out cross-validation,outperforming existing state-of-the-art ***,its real-time processing capability,with prediction times of 33–56 ms on a T4 GPU,underscores its clinical potential for real-time neurofeedback and adaptive *** findings highlight the model’s potential for clinical applications in assessing rehabilitation effectiveness and optimizing therapy plans through precise MI classification.

Ultrahigh field magnetic resonance imaging (UHF MRI) has become an indispensable tool for human brain imaging, offering excellent diagnostic accuracy while avoiding the risks associated with invasive modalities. When the radiofrequency magnetic field of the UHF MRI encounters the multifaceted complexity of the brain—characterized by wavelength-scale, dissipative, and random heterogeneous materials—detrimental mesoscopic challenges such as B1+ field inhomogeneity and local heating arise. Here we develop the metasurface design inspired by scattering theory to achieve the volumetric field homogeneity in the UHF MRI. The method focuses on finding the scattering ansatz systematically and incorporates a pruning technique to achieve the minimum number of participating modes, which guarantees stable practical implementation. Using full-wave analysis of realistic human brain models under a 7 Tesla MRI, we demonstrate more than a twofold improvement in field homogeneity and suppressed local heating, achieving better performance than even the commercial 3 Tesla MRI. The result shows a noninvasive generalization of constant intensity waves in optics, offering a universal methodology applicable to higher Tesla MRI. © 2024, CC BY.

Due to the rapid propagation characteristic of the Coronavirus(COVID-19)disease,manual diagnostic methods cannot handle the large number of infected individuals to prevent the spread of ***,new automated diagnostic methods have been brought on board,particularly methods based on artificial intelligence using different medical data such as X-ray *** imaging,for example,produces several image types that can be processed and analyzed by machine and deep learning methods.X-ray imaging materials widely exist in most hospitals and health institutes since they are affordable compared to other imaging *** this paper,we propose a novel Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)model(COV2Net)that can detect COVID-19 virus by analyzing the X-ray images of suspected *** model is trained on a dataset containing thousands of X-ray images collected from different *** model was tested and evaluated on an independent *** order to approve the performance of the proposed model,three CNN models namely Mobile-Net,Residential Energy Services Network(Res-Net),and Visual Geometry Group 16(VGG-16)have been implemented using transfer learning *** experiment consists of a multi-label classification task based on X-ray images for normal patients,patients infected by COVID-19 virus and other patients infected with *** proposed model is empowered with Gradient-weighted Class Activation Mapping(Grad-CAM)and Grad-Cam++techniques for a visual explanation and methodology debugging *** finding results show that the proposed model COV2Net outperforms the state-of-the-art methods.

Machine learning has been widely used as part of financial markets investment strategies, whether for forecasting the financial assets exchange rate, managing market volatility, or solving different classification problems that help with decision-making. Building an investment strategy using a scientific approach requires a massive amount of data, good computational power, and some expertise in the finance industry. Machine learning applications to the financial field, such as price exchange rate prediction, market pattern recognition, or other trading strategy tasks, are considered optimization problems. As they require an efficient algorithm dedicated to finding a global optimum, they can be solved using metaheuristics. In this survey, we study how metaheuristic optimization techniques contribute to building a robust learning model dedicated to financial investment strategy applications.

Mamba2MIL: State Space Duality Based Multiple Instance Learning for Computational Pathology

Computational pathology (CPath) has significantly advanced the clinical practice of pathology. Despite the progress made, Multiple Instance Learning (MIL), a promising paradigm within CPath, continues to face challenges, particularly related to incomplete information utilization. Existing frameworks, such as those based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), attention, and selective scan space state sequential model (SSM), lack sufficient flexibility and scalability in fusing diverse features, and cannot effectively fuse diverse features. Additionally, current approaches do not adequately exploit order-related and order-independent features, resulting in suboptimal utilization of sequence information. To address these limitations, we propose a novel MIL framework called Mamba2MIL. Our framework utilizes the state space duality model (SSD) to model long sequences of patches of whole slide images (WSIs), which, combined with weighted feature selection, supports the fusion processing of more branching features and can be extended according to specific application needs. Moreover, we introduce a sequence transformation method tailored to varying WSI sizes, which enhances sequence-independent features while preserving local sequence information, thereby improving sequence information utilization. Extensive experiments demonstrate that Mamba2MIL surpasses state-of-the-art MIL methods. We conducted extensive experiments across multiple datasets, achieving improvements in nearly all performance metrics. Specifically, on the NSCLC dataset, Mamba2MIL achieves a binary tumor classification AUC of 0.9533 and an accuracy of 0.8794. There are More Fish in the Sea: Automated Vulnerability Repair via Binary Templates

As software vulnerabilities increase in both volume and complexity, vendors often struggle to repair them promptly. Automated vulnerability repair has emerged as a promising solution to reduce the burden of manual debugging and fixing activities. However, existing techniques exclusively focus on repairing the vulnerabilities at the source code level, which has various limitations. For example, they are not applicable to those (e.g., users or security analysts) who do not have access to the source code. Consequently, this restricts the practical application of these techniques, especially in cases where vendors are unable to provide timely patches. In this paper, we aim to address the above limitations by performing vulnerability repair at binary code level, and accordingly propose a template-based automated vulnerability repair approach for Java binaries. Built on top of the literature, we collect fix templates from both existing template-based automated program repair approaches and vulnerability-specific analyses, which are then implemented for the Java binaries. Our systematic application of these templates effectively mitigates vulnerabilities: experiments on the Vul4J dataset demonstrate that TemVUR successfully repairs 11 vulnerabilities, marking a notable 57.1% improvement over current repair techniques. Moreover, TemVUR securely fixes 66.7% more vulnerabilities compared to leading techniques (15 vs. 9), underscoring its effectiveness in mitigating the risks posed by these vulnerabilities. To assess the generalizability of TemVUR, we curate the ManyVuls4J dataset, which goes beyond Vul4J to encompass a wider diversity of vulnerabilities. With 30% more vulnerabilities than its predecessor (increasing from 79 to 103), ManyVuls4J serves as a robust benchmark for evaluating the performance of TemVUR. The evaluation on ManyVuls4J reaffirms TemVUR’s effectiveness and generalizability across a diverse set of real-world vulnerabilities. Copyright © 2024, The Authors.
