Light Field(LF)depth estimation is an important research direction in the area of computer vision and computational photography,which aims to infer the depth information of different objects in threedimensional scenes by capturing LF *** this new era of significance,this article introduces a survey of the key concepts,methods,novel applications,and future trends in this *** summarize the LF depth estimation methods,which are usually based on the interaction of radiance from rays in all directions of the LF data,such as epipolar-plane,multi-view geometry,focal stack,and deep *** analyze the many challenges facing each of these approaches,including complex algorithms,large amounts of computation,and speed *** addition,this survey summarizes most of the currently available methods,conducts some comparative experiments,discusses the results,and investigates the novel directions in LF depth estimation.

The unipolar photocurrent in conventional photodiodes(PDs)based on photovoltaic effect limits the output modes and potential versatility of these devices in *** photodiodes with photocurrent switching are emerging as a promising solution for obtaining photoelectric devices with unique and attractive functions,such as optical logic ***,we design an all-solid-state chip-scale ultraviolet(UV)PD based on a hybrid GaN heterojunction with engineered bipolar polarized electric *** introducing the polarization-induced photocurrent switching effect,the photocurrent direction can be switched in response to the wavelength of incident light at 0 V *** particular,the photocurrent direction exhibits negative when the irradiation wavelength is less than 315 nm,but positive when the wavelength is longer than 315 *** device shows a responsivity of up to−6.7 mA/W at 300 nm and 5.3 mA/W at 340 nm,*** particular,three special logic gates in response to different dual UV light inputs are demonstrated via a single bipolar PD,which may be beneficial for future multifunctional UV photonic integrated devices and systems.

Classical optimization and learning-based methods are the two reigning paradigms in deformable image registration. While optimization-based methods boast generalizability across modalities and robust performance, learning-based methods promise peak performance, incorporating weak supervision and amortized optimization. However, the exact conditions for either paradigm to perform well over the other are shrouded and not explicitly outlined in the existing literature. In this paper, we make an explicit correspondence between the mutual information of the distribution of per-pixel intensity and labels, and the performance of classical registration methods. This strong correlation hints to the fact that architectural designs in learning-based methods is unlikely to affect this correlation, and therefore, the performance of learning-based methods. This hypothesis is thoroughly validated with state-of-the-art classical and learning-based methods. However, learning-based methods with weak supervision can perform high-fidelity intensity and label registration, which is not possible with classical methods. Next, we show that this high-fidelity feature learning does not translate to invariance to domain shift, and learning-based methods are sensitive to such changes in the data distribution. We reassess and recalibrate performance expectations from classical and DLIR methods under access to label supervision, training time, and its generalization capabilities under minor domain shifts. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. Emerging resistive RAM (ReRAM) devices can in-situ execute vector-matrix-multiplication (VMM) and is able to achieve energy-efficient in-memory scientific computing. However, the peripheral separated S&Hs and ADCs for row buffering and sensing in conventional designs are the system bottleneck. We propose an ADC-less all-in-one processing-in-ReRAM design that enables the precharge once, readout multiple-bits (PORM) functionality for overlapping the tRCD latencies of different-significance result bits sensed out on the same bitline. Specifically, to support PORM sensing, we propose a cascaded-feedback bitline sensing architecture for VMM and a buffering-and-sensing-collocated sense amplifier elemental design with the bitline and the storage node fully decoupled for enabling conflict-free column accesses. We further propose cross-level inter-leaving mechanism for successive column VMM accesses to reduce the overall latency through improving the hardware spatiotemporal utilization. Experimental results show that our proposed design achieves 297% overall performance improvement and 85.8% energy reduction, compared with an aggressive baseline. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). In personalized federated learning (PFL), it is widely recognized that achieving both high model generalization and effective personalization poses a significant challenge due to their conflicting nature. As a result, existing PFL methods can only manage a trade-off between these two objectives. This raises an interesting question: Is it feasible to develop a model capable of achieving both objectives simultaneously? Our paper presents an affirmative answer, and the key lies in the observation that deep models inherently exhibit hierarchical architectures, which produce representations with various levels of generalization and personalization at different stages. A straightforward approach stemming from this observation is to select multiple representations from these layers and combine them to concurrently achieve generalization and personalization. However, the number of candidate representations is commonly huge, which makes this method infeasible due to high computational costs. To address this problem, we propose DualFed, a new method that can directly yield dual representations correspond to generalization and personalization respectively, thereby simplifying the optimization task. Specifically, DualFed inserts a personalized projection network between the encoder and classifier. The pre-projection representations are able to capture generalized information shareable across clients, and the post-projection representations are effective to capture task-specific information on local clients. This design minimizes the mutual interference between generalization and personalization, thereby achieving a win-win situation. Word embedding is a technique for representing words as dense real vectors and is crucial for most natural language processing tasks. Common approaches include non-contextual embeddings such as Word2vec and contextual embeddings like BERT, both of which operate on the principle that words appearing in similar contexts have close vector representations. Despite their effectiveness, these methods often fail to capture some morphological information useful in many natural language processing applications. In this study, we propose an original word embedding of Arabic words based on the morphological characteristics of the words. Tests show that integrating this morphology-based word embedding into a topic detection model outperforms models using Word2vec or AraBERT embeddings. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

The conventional Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) algorithm is a state-of-the-art trust-region optimization method for solving bundle adjustment problems in the Structure-from-Motion community, which not only takes advantage of the fast convergence of the Gauss-Newton method, but also the stability of the gradient descent method when approaching optimal solutions. However, the damping ratio of LM is simply provided by trial-and-error, which causes slow convergence rate for large-scale problems. This paper proposes the Yamashita-Fukushima LM (YFLM) algorithm to reduce the time complexity for global bundle adjustment, where the damping factor is determined by Yamashita and Fukushima’s method. YFLM dynamically calculates a more reasonable and optimal damping ratio according to the newest reprojection error. The experimental results show that the YFLM algorithm outperforms the conventional LM algorithm for most public bundle adjustment datasets. Besides this, the convergence of the YFLM algorithm is also evaluated with different σ∈(0,2]. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In healthcare, medical images are playing a major role in accurate diagnosis. Cloud storage for medical images creates security risks and latency due to some critical vulnerabilities and their distance from data sources. By bringing computation closer to the source, edge computing improves efficiency, still edge servers cannot be trusted blindly, requiring robust security measures. In this article, an efficient and lightweight framework for secure medical image search and retrieval that leverages edge computing is proposed. Here, Medical images are encrypted and similarity-preserving hashcodes are generated locally at the source, which are sent to a trusted master edge server. Before being stored, searchable hashcodes undergo homomorphic encryption, allowing for secure computations on encrypted data. The master edge server generates n shares of the encrypted images by applying a Learning With Errors (LWE) based image sharing scheme and distributing them across nearby edge devices. During retrieval, to ensure resilience against device compromise, m out of n shares are used to reconstruct the image. The master edge server retrieves and reconstructs the top k relevant images in response to the query image. This framework enhances security and efficiency by reducing reliance on cloud storage and enabling secure processing on edge servers, making it ideal for modern healthcare environments. The efficiency and security of the proposed framework are proved theoretically and experimentally. Hence, it proved that the framework is performing better than existing state-of-the-art models. ©2024 IEEE.

Subthreshold depression, a transition state to depression, seriously hinders the early diagnosis of depression. Current studies mostly use heterogeneous definitions of subthreshold depression, making the results of such meta-analyses questionable. Therefore, it is of vital significance to develop an objective method for the diagnosis of subthreshold depression based on objective criteria. In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), symptoms similar to subthreshold depression have been extensively explored. However, diagnostic methods in TCM still depend heavily on the experience of doctors and lack integration with modern diagnostic techniques, which makes it challenging to explain the pathogenesis of subthreshold depression. Consequently, we propose an explainable framework, based on a stacking ensemble algorithm, for subthreshold depression recognition from biomarkers in the pulse waveform and concepts of pulse in TCM. In this method, Naive Bayes, Random Forest, Extremely Randomized Trees, Categorical Boosting and Logistic Regression are chosen as basic learners, and XGBoost is selected as the meta-classifier. Based on the five-fold cross-validation method, grid search method and repetition of training, the stacking ensemble model shows superiority on most performance evaluation metrics including AUC, F1 scores, MCC, precision and sensitivity. Besides, by analyzing the Adjusted Odds Ratio of features in the pulse waveform, we obtained four features that have a high correlation with the occurrence of subthreshold depression and derived physiological changes in patients with subthreshold depression based on their physiological significance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
