The videoscope (VS) images have poor quality and low contrast. Hence, in this paper, three proposed frameworks to improve the quality of VS images are presented. The first framework depends on contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE) with adaptive gamma correction. The second framework depends on homomorphic processing. The third framework is based on the homomorphic enhancement with histogram equalization. The first one is superior from the entropy perspective, while the third one is superior from the contrast perspective. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

Correspondence matching plays a crucial role in numerous robotics applications. In comparison to conventional hand-crafted methods and recent data-driven approaches, there is significant interest in plug-and-play algorithms that make full use of pre-trained backbone networks for multi-scale feature extraction and leverage hierarchical refinement strategies to generate matched correspondences. The primary focus of this paper is to address the limitations of deep feature matching (DFM), a state-of-the-art (SoTA) plug-and-play correspondence matching approach. First, we eliminate the pre-defined threshold employed in the hierarchical refinement process of DFM by leveraging a more flexible nearest neighbor search strategy, thereby preventing the exclusion of repetitive yet valid matches during the early stages. Our second technical contribution is the integration of a patch descriptor, which extends the applicability of DFM to accommodate a wide range of backbone networks pre-trained across diverse computer vision tasks, including image classification, semantic segmentation, and stereo matching. Taking into account the practical applicability of our method in real-world robotics applications, we also propose a novel patch descriptor distillation strategy to further reduce the computational complexity of correspondence matching. Extensive experiments conducted on three public datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our proposed method. Specifically, it achieves an overall performance in terms of mean matching accuracy of 0.68, 0.92, and 0.95 with respect to the tolerances of 1, 3, and 5 pixels, respectively, on the HPatches dataset, outperforming all other SoTA algorithms. Trust evaluation and trust establishment play crucial roles in the management of trust within a multi-agent system. When it comes to collaboration systems, trust becomes directly linked to the specific roles performed by agents. The Role-Based Collaboration (RBC) methodology serves as a framework for assigning roles that facilitate agent collaboration. Within this context, the behavior of an agent with respect to a role is referred to as a process role. This research paper introduces a role engine that incorporates a trust establishment algorithm aimed at identifying optimal and reliable process roles. In our study, we define trust as a continuous value ranging from 0 to 1. To optimize trustworthy process roles, we have developed a consensus-based Gaussian Process Factor Graph (GPFG) tool. Our simulations and experiments validate the feasibility and efficiency of our proposed approach with autonomous robots in unsignalized intersections and narrow hallways.

Early detection and assessment of polyps play a crucial role in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC). Polyp segmentation provides an effective solution to assist clinicians in accurately locating and segmenting polyp regions. In the past, people often relied on manually extracted lower-level features such as color, texture, and shape, which often had problems capturing global context and lacked robustness to complex scenarios. With the advent of deep learning, more and more medical image segmentation algorithms based on deep learning networks have emerged, making significant progress in the field. This paper provides a comprehensive review of polyp segmentation algorithms. We first review some traditional algorithms based on manually extracted features and deep segmentation algorithms, and then describe benchmark datasets related to the topic. Specifically, we carry out a comprehensive evaluation of recent deep learning models and results based on polyp size, taking into account the focus of research topics and differences in network structures. In this paper, an adaptive radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) control strategy is proposed for bilateral teleoperation robotic system with uncertainty and time delay. Meantime, the force observer method is used to estimate the interaction force between the slave robot and environment. The model of teleoperation robotic system is analyzed, and then the uncertainty of bilateral teleoperation robotic system is estimated by using RBFNN. Using Lyapunov stability theorem, the stability of teleoperation robotic system under our proposed control is proved. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm is verified by Matlab Simulink, and position tracking and force estimation performance of the teleoperation robotic system are guaranteed. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The least squares estimator is the most popular identification method. In the absence of prior knowledge on the unknown noise, uniform weights on all samples are often as-sumed. In reality, potentially unknown contamination is always present and the uniform weights are not necessarily the best. Further, explicit information about the nature of contamination is usually absent. To this end, a relaxed-tilted least squares method is proposed here to assign unequal weights so that the effect of undesired noise contamination can be mitigated. The relaxed-tilted least squares method tilts the uniform prior on the samples so as to move the uniform distribution in a direction that enjoys the smallest estimation error in the neighborhood of the uniform distribution. Theoretical results are established including the ability of outlier removal and the guaranteed parameter convergence in the presence of outliers. Numerical algorithms are proposed and simulated, which support the theoretical derivations.

Comprehending the circumstances is an essential element of every autonomous driving system. computer vision harbors the task of semantic segmentation as one of its core components wherein each pixel in an image is labeled with precise labels. The task has found significant applications in areas like autonomous driving plus analysis of images and videos, not to mention medical imaging and scene understanding. The progress made in semantic segmentation through the utilization of deep learning techniques has been truly extraordinary. Our study introduces a groundbreaking approach known as hybrid evolutionary weighted ensemble, which combines the strengths of two deep models. Two distinct segmentation models will be developed using U-Net and ResNet34 as the decoder and the encoder respectively for the first model using transfer learning technique, we are able to create individual segmentation models. Additionally, we consider SegNet another highly regarded convolutional neural network for image segmentation as our second deep model. With the goal of enhancing the accuracy of the deep learning model, we propose an evolutionary leap towards the convergence of the DL model accuracy will be achieved through the introduction of a hybrid weighted ensemble model. This shall be done by combining ResNet34, an individual U-Net-based DTL model, with SegNet model and then executing fine-tuning. To assess the effectiveness of the hybrid network, we conducted an evaluation using the widely recognized and demanding CamVid dataset. Through our experiments, we were able to showcase that the hybrid network outperforms other popular semantic segmentation algorithms by a significant margin, solidifying its position as a cutting-edge solution.

Optimizing Bidding Curves for Renewable Energy in Two-Settlement Electricity Markets

Coordination of day-ahead and real-time electricity markets is imperative for cost-effective electricity supply and also to provide efficient incentives for the energy transition. Although stochastic market designs feature the least-cost coordination, they are incompatible with current deterministic markets. This paper proposes a new approach for compatible coordination in two-settlement markets based on benchmark bidding curves for variable renewable energy. These curves are optimized based on a bilevel optimization problem, anticipating per-scenario responses of deterministic market-clearing problems and ultimately minimizing the expected cost across day-ahead and real-time markets. Although the general bilevel model is challenging to solve, we theoretically prove that a single-segment bidding curve with a zero bidding price is sufficient to achieve system optimality if the marginal cost of variable renewable energy is zero, thus addressing the computational challenge. In practice, variable renewable energy producers can be allowed to bid multi-segment curves with non-zero prices. We test the bilevel framework for both single- and multiple-segment bidding curves under the assumption of fixed bidding prices. We leverage duality theory and McCormick envelopes to derive the linear programming approximation of the bilevel problem, which scales to practical systems such as a 1576-bus NYISO system. We benchmark the proposed coordination and find absolute dominance over the baseline solution, which assumes that renewables agnostically bid their expected forecasts. We also demonstrate that our proposed scheme provides a good approximation of the least-cost, yet unattainable in practice, stochastic market outcome. © 2025, CC BY.

Over the past decade, Oak Ridge National laboratory developed neutron capabilities at both the High Flux Isotope Reactor and the Spallation Neutron Source. A broad scientific portfolio has flourished at both facilities such that a new facility named VENUS is currently under construction at the Spallation Neutron Source. With a large range of applications, comes a broad range of user expertise regarding data processing, analysis, and visualization. Our team has developed and implemented a suite of tools to respond to all user needs. These tools span from data reduction, normalization, general tools such as organization of data folders, pre-processing of data, etc., to strain mapping, neutron grating interferometry, and advanced reconstruction algorithms for computed tomography.
