Federated Learning enables collaboratively model training among a number of distributed devices with the coordination of a centralized server, where each device alternatively performs local gradient computation and communication to the server. FL suffers from significant performance degradation due to the excessive communication delay between the server and devices, especially when the network bandwidth of these devices is limited, which is common in edge environments. Existing methods overlap the gradient computation and communication to hide the communication latency to accelerate the FL training. However, the overlapping can also lead to an inevitable gap between the local model in each device and the global model in the server that seriously restricts the convergence rate of learning process. To address this problem, we propose a new overlapping method for FL, AOCC-FL, which aligns the local model with the global model via calibrated compensation such that the communication delay can be hidden without deteriorating the convergence performance. Theoretically, we prove that AOCC-FL admits the same convergence rate as the non-overlapping method. On both simulated and testbed experiments, we show that AOCC-FL achieves a comparable convergence rate relative to the non-overlapping method while outperforming the state-of-the-art overlapping methods. © 2023 IEEE.

The detection of unknown attacks inside the host usually adopts the methods of constructing a normal behavior model, monitoring the internal state of the host and auditing the program activity log. With the increase of detection data, the detection efficiency and accuracy of traditional host abnormal behavior detection technologies will decline significantly. Machine learning based detection methods can effectively improve the detection efficiency and accuracy, and become an important direction of host abnormal behavior detection research. We introduce the basic situation and challenges of host based anomaly detection technology, summarizes the characteristics and application scenarios of three types of research dataset, including network, internal threat and malicious code, and focuses on analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of detection technology models based on traditional machine learning and deep learning in recent years To improve the robustness of the detection model and the evaluation index of the model performance, the feasibility suggestions for the next technological development are put forward. © 2022 IEEE.

Vision language models (VLMs) have achieved impressive progress in diverse applications, becoming a prevalent research direction. In this paper, we build FIRE, a feedback-refinement dataset, consisting of 1.1M multi-turn conversations that are derived from 27 source datasets, empowering VLMs to spontaneously refine their responses based on user feedback across diverse tasks. To scale up the data collection, FIRE is collected in two components: FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, where FIRE-100K is generated by GPT-4V, and FIRE-1M is freely generated via models trained on FIRE-100K. Then, we build FIRE-Bench, a benchmark to comprehensively evaluate the feedback-refining capability of VLMs, which contains 11K feedback-refinement conversations as the test data, two evaluation settings, and a model to provide feedback for VLMs. We develop the FIRE-LLaVA model by fine-tuning LLaVA on FIRE-100K and FIRE-1M, which shows remarkable feedback-refining capability on FIRE-Bench and outperforms untrained VLMs by 50%, making more efficient user-agent interactions and underscoring the significance of the FIRE dataset. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. In this article, a new vision- and grating-sensor-based intelligent unmanned settlement (IUS) system is proposed for convenience stores to automatically recognize the shopping behavior of customers, record their identities, and generate invoices. First, we design a new IUS architecture, which includes a shelf module and exit module. To achieve automatic settlement for each customer, a shopping event detection method is proposed. In this method, a vision-based human pose estimation algorithm is used to detect a human form standing in front of a shelf. The hand actions of each customer are detected by a grating sensor, and an image recognition method based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) is applied to recognize the items in the hands of customers. To reduce the image annotation workload, we propose a semisupervised training method for the recognition network. Based on hand action detection and item recognition, a shopping event recognition method is designed for the system, and a facial image of the customer corresponding to each shopping behavior is captured. Finally, each detected shopping event is added to the invoice of the corresponding customer via a facial recognition method. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed IUS system, we have built a handheld item image dataset and a shopping event dataset for an unmanned convenience store. The experimental results show that the proposed system can accurately recognize shopping behaviors and generate invoices. © 2020 IEEE.

Accurate Distinction of Weak and Strong AC Grids for Emerging Hierarchical-Infeed LCC-UHVDC systems

Distinction of weak and strong AC grids for emerging hierarchical-infeed LCC-UHVDC systems is important for planning and operation departments. However, accuracy of earlier distinction methods is limited as they were developed by empirical reasoning without rigorous theoretical analysis. Hence in this letter, hierarchical-infeed interactive effective short-circuit ratio (HIESCR) index is first used for strength evaluation of HIDC systems with complex inter-inverter interactions considered. Boundary HIESCR (BHIESCR) is also introduced in the proposed distinction method of weak and strong AC grids. That is, weak (or strong) AC grids are, respectively, identified when HIESCR is less (or greater) than BHIESCR. Second, it is shown BHIESCR remains almost unchanged as 3.0 versus various system parameters and rated operation variables based on rigorous theoretical analysis. This salient feature makes the proposed method more accurate than earlier methods. Finally, the proposed method is validated by simulations based on the PSCAD/EMTDC program.

Blockchain technology is a strategic technology to support the development of digital economy, which helps to promote data sharing, improve the efficiency of communication and build a trusted system. With the continuous development of blockchain technology, security problems caused by lack of regulation are also frequent. Also, the supervision process needs to check the data information on the blockchain, which may lead to the disclosure of users’ privacy information. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a privacy protection blockchain supervision scheme (PBS) that supports ciphertext supervision and malicious user tracking. The PBS supports the supervision of ciphertext data on the blockchain, meaning that regulators do not need to decrypt it and can perform supervision without plaintext. This ensures that the private data of users on the blockchain would not be compromised in the process of supervision. Moreover, the scheme supports the tracking of the sender of the offending information. Theoretical analysis and comparison show that the proposed PBS can effectively ensure the privacy of user data on blockchain, and experimental analysis demonstrates the practicability of the scheme. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Multiview clustering has wide real-world applications because it can process data from multiple sources. However, these data often contain missing instances and noises, which are ignored by most multiview clustering methods. Missing instances may make these methods difficult to use directly, and noises will lead to unreliable clustering results. In this article, we propose a novel autoweighted noisy and incomplete multiview clustering (ANIMC) approach via a soft autoweighted strategy and a doubly soft regular regression model. First, by designing adaptive semiregularized nonnegative matrix factorization, the soft autoweighted strategy assigns a proper weight to each view and adds a soft boundary to balance the influence of noises and incompleteness. Second, by proposing θ-norm, the doubly soft regularized regression model adjusts the sparsity of our model by choosing different θ. Compared with previous methods, ANIMC has three unique advantages: 1) it is a soft algorithm to adjust our approach in different scenarios, thereby improving its generalization ability;2) it automatically learns a proper weight for each view, thereby reducing the influence of noises;3) it performs doubly soft regularized regression that aligns the same instances in different views, thereby decreasing the impact of missing instances. Extensive experimental results show its superior advantages over other state-of-the-art works. © 2020 IEEE.
