The development of digital content industry needs the support of the online 3D model library. The construction of efficient interaction, stable and reliable model library is the trend of industry. In this paper, we design a web 3D model library system based on the Amazon cloud service platform. It adopted model simplification, model size adaption methods to make the system more efficient interaction. Meanwhile, cloud-based architecture ensured the reliability and scalability of the system. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

Software survivability evaluation method based on software calling structure

A new method was proposed to evaluate the survivability of the software system based on the calling structure of the software. Firstly, the interactions among the components of the software were obtained using the static lexical analysis technology and dynamic monitoring of the AOP (Aspect ORIENTED PROGRAmming). The calling network was constructed to model the calling structure of the software. Secondly, a component failure simulation method was proposed by removing the nodes and edges corresponding to the selected components from the calling network. The residual calling network was considered as the software calling structure when the components are disabled. Then, the survivability coefficient was presented to measure the survivability of the software system, the proportion of the biggest connected subgraph of the residual network compared to the original call network diagram. In the experiments, nine open source software projects were selected to compare their survivability, and 20 versions of Struts (J2EE framework) were chosen to investigate the changes of the software survivability during their updating. Our evaluation concurs with the intuition that minor upgrades, aimed at fixing bugs and adding minor functionality quickly, reduce software survivability, whereas major upgrades, which normally clean up messy code and re-construct the software, improve software quality.

This paper presents a method for detecting the removed object in video captured by stationary camera. The method is based on an observation that the removed object, while not distinguishable by human eyes, leaves artifacts that can be detected by computers. In this paper, the block based motion estimation method is employed to extract motion information from adjacent video frames. Then the magnitude and orientation of the motion vectors are used to differentiate the authentic region and the forged region. By exploring the discrepancies in motion vectors, the position of the removed object can be revealed. The efficiency of the proposed method is demonstrated by experiments. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

This paper investigates variation of infinite horizon (IH) performance of Model Predictive Control (MPC) without constraints as the optimization horizon changes. By exploring properties of the Difference Riccati Equations (DRE), an upper bound and a lower bound of the ratio between variation of IH performance of MPC and finite horizon (FH) optimal cost are obtained. The result shows the dynamic behavior of IH performance of closed-loop MPC systems as the optimization horizon varies. Copyright © 2013 IFAC.

With a wide range of Python language in developing programs, More and more programmers choose to use the Python language for systems development, it gradually becomes scientific computing, web and games' Choice Awards. However, the performance of python is always a headache for developers. For reasonable selection of functions in base library, the usage of third-party plug-ins' functions and methods, and the design of custom functions, the problem whether they are the best choices for general developers is difficult to make a positive answer. After the system's performance bottleneck occurs, it is particularly important to determine where to tune and how to tune. Through the analysis and dynamic tracking of source code, with the built-in method in Python, we can get information about the system to be optimized, included: functions, grammatical structures, running time of each function, the relationship between function calls etc. This information provides an effective basis for further optimization of the system. Experimental results show that the system optimized by the tool has a significantly improvement.

Smart meter is one of the most important devices used in the smart grid (SG). The smart meter is an advanced energy meter that obtains information from the end users' load devices and measures the energy consumption of the consumers and then provides added information to the utility company and/or system operator. Several sensors and control devices, supported by dedicated communication infrastructure, are utilized in a smart meter. This paper outlines some smart meter's aspects and functions of smart meter. In addition, it introduces two basic types of smart meter system's communication technologies: Radio Frequency (RF) and Power Line Carrier (PLC) and recent advances with regard to these two technologies. This paper also presents different policy and current status as well as future projects and objectives of SG development in several countries. Finally, the paper compares some main aspects about latest products of smart meter from different companies.

Word segmentation has been shown helpful for Chinese-to-English machine translation (MT), yet the way different segmentation strategies affect MT is poorly understood. In this paper, we focus on comparing different segmentation strategies in terms of machine translation quality. Our empirical study covers both English-to-Chinese and Chinese-to-English translation for the first time. Our results show the necessity of word segmentation depends on the translation direction. After comparing two types of segmentation strategies with associated linguistic resources, we demonstrate that optimizing segmentation itself does not guarantee better MT performance, and segmentation strategy choice is not the key to improve MT. Instead, we discover that linguistical resources such as segmented corpora or the dictionaries that segmentation tools rely on actually determine how word segmentation affects machine translation. Based on these findings, we propose an empirical approach that directly optimize dictionary with respect to the MT task for word segmenter, providing a BLEU score improvement of 1.30. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

As a safe and economical method the pipeline is widely used to transport the oil and gas. At present, most of serious pipeline accidents are the artificial damages. The traditional leakage detection methods only infer the leakages by analyzing the parameters. The sensitivities are low and the leakage warning exclusively arrives after the leakage. The urgent problem is to detect the intrusions and locate the threat position. For this reason, we studied and developed a novel pipeline security monitoring and pre-warning system based on multi-seismic sensors. The system consists of many seismic geophones and data acquisition modules which are laid along the pipeline. The events such as footstep, car moving and the digging generate the seismic waves. These sensors and modules acquire the seismic signals. The empirical mode decomposition is used to acquire the IMFs (intrinsic mode functions). Then the IMF kurtosis features are normalized and used to recognize the different targets. In order to improve the individual target recognition accuracy, it proposes to fuse the identification results by using the Dempster-Shafer evidence theory and obtain the final judgment. If the target belongs to threat, the location will be finished. The time-frequency analysis method is used to process the seismic signals. The EMD outcomes are transformed by Hilbert-Huang Transform and then it can acquire the signal's instantaneous properties such as instantaneous frequency, phase and amplitude. In this paper we also discuss the localization procedures and put forward to a new passive localization method based on HHT and TDOA. The filed trails show the proposed methods work well. © 2013 American Society of Civil Engineers.

For over 40 years, the universal soil loss equation(USLE) and its' revised version the revised universal soil loss equation(RUSLE) have been used all over the world for soil mean annual loss per area unit. Because of the watershed erosion models are under developing, many researchers applied the USLE and RUSLE to estimate soil loss in watershed estimations. However, a major limitation is the difficulty in extracting the LS factor. The geographic information system-based(GIS-based) methods which have been developed for estimating the slope length for USLE and RUSLE model also have limitations. A series of ARC/INFO AML program was created that can calculate LS factor for the USLE, however the program need a very long time to run in wide-ranging areas. The flowpath and cumulative cell length-based method(FCL) overcomes this disadvantage but does not consider the following questions:(1) Some original AML program functions are not achieved, so results are different.(2) Using USLE to calculate LS factor that do not adapt to the erosion environment of China.(3) There isn't a friendly graphic user interface. The purpose of this research was to overcome these limitations and extend the FCL method through Integrating CSLE equation. We developed a LS calculation tool(LS-TOOL) in Microsoft'*** environment using C# with a user-friendly interface. Comparing the LS factor calculated with the FCL method and AML method, LS factor values generated by using LS-TOOL method delivers improved results. The LS-TOOL algorithm can automatically calculate slope length, slope steepness, L factor, S factor, and LS factors, providing the results as ASCII files which can be easily used in some GIS software. This study is an important step forward in conducting fast large-scale erosion evaluation.

Vector Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (V-OFDM) for single transmit antenna systems is a generalization of OFDM where Single-Carrier Frequency Domain Equalization (SC-FDE) and OFDM are two special cases. It has been shown to be able to collect multipath diversity and thus generally outperforms OFDM. The performance of OFDM under phase noise has been extensively studied in literature. These effects can be summarized as introducing a Common Phase Error (CPE) and Inter Carrier Interference (ICI) resulting in poor performance. The performance of V-OFDM under phase noise still remains uninvestigated and in this paper it is shown that phase noise in V-OFDM systems leads to a Common Vector Block Phase Error (CVBPE) as well as an Inter Vector Block Carrier Interference (IVBCI) effect. Both of these effects are detrimental to the performance of a V-OFDM system. An exact expression for the Signal to Interference Noise Ratio (SINR) for a V-OFDM system is derived and found to agree closely with simulation results.
