An Effective Method for Chinese Grammar Rule Learning

A new method of Chinese grammar rules learning is put forward in this paper. The key point of this method is to use part-of-speech (POS), semantic and contextual information together in learning and expressing Chinese grammar rules. In this way, not only Context Free Grammar (CFG) rules can be learnt, but also the ambiguous structures in POS can be identified automatically. Furthermore, non-ambiguous semantic rules and forbidden rules can be produced from ambiguous rules by using semantic and contextual information. Experimental results demonstrate that the complexity of Chinese parsing is greatly reduced using the different rules learnt by our method.

The technique of full text retrieval for modern Chinese has been studied for a long time, but the same cannot be said for ancient Chinese books, especially in China. This paper tries to find the characteristics of Chinese ancient books which can be used for information retrieval. Statistical analysis was carried out on ancient Chinese books of over 35,000,000 words, including most of the works in common use. Based on these experiments some characteristics of ancient Chinese works are analyzed and compared with modern Chinese, including the basic unit of ancient works, the proportion of double character words, sentence length, and the field dependency of ancient Chinese works. We then give conclusions on ancient Chinese which is useful for information retrieval, especially when building inverted indexes and selecting the index unit. Depending on the conclusion, a full-text retrieval system for ancient Chinese books has been designed and realized. It shows that statistical learning and analyses are a great help in ancient Chinese information retrieval.

This paper describes a TV program generation system using digest video scenes that are retrieved from video streams with the program indexes. The key features of the system are: (1) TV programs can be dynamically generated from digest video scenes selected by user preference. (2) Directions can be added using a happiness or sadness level based on the user preferences. (3) Personalized TV programs for an individual viewer can be made. The procedures taken by the system are as follows: (1) Conjunctive expressions between scenes are automatically generated; (2) Emotional expressions are automatically generated by user preference; (3) TV program metaphors are defined; (4) Direction templates corresponding to the metaphors are defined; (5) These expressions and definitions are coded using a markup language, and (6) Contents such as virtual characters and movies are synchronized. The resultant program can be shown on a TV set.

Configuring Role-Based Access Control to Enforce Mandatory and Discretionary Access Control Policies

Access control models have traditionally included mandatory access control (or lattice-based access control) and discretionary access control. Subsequently, role-based access control has been introduced, along with claims that its mechanisms are general enough to simulate the traditional methods. In this paper we provide systematic constructions for various common forms of both of the traditional access control paradigms using the role-based access control (RBAC) models of Sandhu et al., commonly called RBAC96. We see that all of the features of the RBAC96 model are required, and that although for the mandatory access control simulation, only one administrative role needs to be assumed, for the discretionary access control simulations, a complex set of administrative roles is required. © 2000, ACM. Chinese words classification based on statistics plays an important role in natural language processing, such as speech recognition, intelligent Chinese input method, and so on. We first do statistics and calculation work on the large-scale corpus text, and then use the average mutual information as the global cost function for clustering all Chinese words into a predefined number of classes with a hybrid top-down splitting and bottom-up merging approach. The result of classification is encouraging and can be used in the class-based language model.

The study of an integrated human-machine discussion system for supporting economic decisions requires establishing a computer-supporting environment, which can discover the knowledge about economics from heterogeneous information sources, and then utilize them to provide useful information for the experts in different locations. It also should allow real-time discussion among such economic experts and finally upgrade the overall correctness of economic decisions. ODIIPSA98 (Open Distributed Intelligent information Processing system Architecture '98), a pragmatic structural model of open intelligent systems, is MAS-based and information (including multi-media information, knowledge and such like) accessing oriented. The paper first introduces the fundamental ideas and design principles of ODIIPSA98, and then moves to the computer supporting system for upgrading economic decisions, in which ODIIPSA98 serves as its basic framework. After some analyses and comparisons, it is obvious that, such a system, established under the instruction of ODIIPSA98, would gradually show its advantages of open flexibility, reliability, efficiency, and so on.

This paper proposes a knowledge sharing and collaboration system model (InKB) based on the Internet. It gives a way to collaborate and share knowledge between Web-based knowledge systems. InKB model has three layers: data exchange layer, collaboration layer and knowledge-based application layer. The data exchange layer solves the problem of how to represent and manipulate knowledge. The collaboration layer devotes collaboration between servers over the Internet. The knowledge-based application layer defines the user interface for knowledge processing over the Internet, such as information searching, decision-support application and data mining. Data exchange between InKB Webs is in XML format, knowledge can be shared between heterogeneous knowledge bases, and knowledge can be remotely manipulated. Collaboration between InKBs is supported through a collaboration agent, which can find the resource the user wants in the InKB system. As an open system model, InKB can also support HTTP requests such as information retrieval and browsing.

Simulation under Virtual Reality is the front edge of simulation technology. And also, it provide a new method for integrated multisensor simulation under a united environment. In the past, most simulation and animation systems utilized in robotics, which are concerned with simulation of the robot and its environment without simulation of sensors, have difficulty in handling robots that utilize sensory feedback in their operation. Currently, navigation and planning heavily depended on perception has already been mainstream in robotics. Sensor fusion plays a important role in navigation. So, it is important to do research on simulators which deal with multisensor, integrated robot simulation. In this paper, we present a system, which is integrated multisensor feedback under virtual reality, and describe the system architecture and dynamic behavior simulation model. Meanwhile, we also give the difference of simulation between VR system and general 2D system. We choice the mobile robot THMRIII as original source, and give it dynamic simulation model. In order to simulate the uncertainty of ultrasonic sensor, we identify three kinds of uncertainty, and give a ultrasonic sensor model based on fuzzy theory. The sensor simulation algorithm is presented. At the end of this paper, we conclude with discussion of sensor fusion under 3D visualized integrated environment.

In this paper, the intelligent mobile robot key techniques are introduced, such as architecture of intelligent mobile robot, path planning and its simulation techniques, transducer and multisensor fusion techniques, design and implement of intelligent mobile robot, vision subsystem and information reduced techniques, research of ''perception - action'' behavior and application of fuzzy control, etc.. A real outdoor mobile robot THMR-III (TsingHua Mobile Robot) that we developed has demonstrated road following, obstacle avoiding, branch road distinguishing and navigation, cross-country and target following at average speed 3.0 m/s.

ROLE OF SIMULATION IN RAPID PROTOTYPING FOR CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

作者： KING, JF BARTON, DE J. Fred King:is the manager of the Advanced Technology Department for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston in 1977. He has been principal investigator of research projects in knowledge engineering pattern recognition and heuristic problem-solving. Efforts include the development of a multi-temporal multispectral classifier for identifying graincrops using LANDSAT satellite imagery data for NASA. Also as a member of the research team for a NCI study with Baylor College of Medicine and NASA he helped develop techniques for detection of carcinoma using multispectral microphotometer scans of lung tissue. He established and became technical director of the AI Laboratory for Ford Aerospace where he developed expert scheduling modeling and knowledge acquisition systems for NASA. Since joining Unisys in 1985 he has led the development of object-oriented programming environments blackboard architectures data fusion techniques using neural networks and intelligent data base systems. Douglas E. Barton:is manager of Logistics Information Systems for Unisys in Reston Virginia. He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from the College of William and Mary in 1978 and did postgraduate work in London as a Drapers Company scholar. Since joining Unisys in 1981 his work has concentrated on program management and software engineering of large scale data base management systems and design and implementation of knowledge-based systems in planning and logistics. As chairman of the Logistics Data Subcommittee of the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) he led an industry initiative which examined concepts in knowledge-based systems in military logistics. His responsibilities also include evaluation development and tailoring of software engineering standards and procedures for data base and knowledge-based systems. He is currently program manager of the Navigation Information Management System which provides support to the Fleet Ballistic Missile Progr

A valuable technique during concept development is rapid prototyping of software for key design components. This approach is particularly useful when the optimum design approach is not readily apparent or several known alternatives need to be rapidly evaluated. A problem inherent in rapid prototyping is the lack of a "target system" with which to interface. Some alternatives are to develop test driver libraries, integrate the prototype with an existing working simulator, or build one for the specific problem. This paper presents a unique approach to concept development using rapid prototyping for concept development and scenario-based simulation for concept verification. The rapid prototyping environment, derived from artificial intelligence technology, is based on a blackboard architecture. The rapid prototype simulation capability is provided through an object-oriented modeling environment. It is shown how both simulation and blackboard technologies are used collectively to rapidly gain insight into a tenacious problem. A specific example will be discussed where this approach was used to evolve the logic of a mission controller for an autonomous underwater vehicle.
