Federated learning (FL) and split learning (SL) are prevailing distributed paradigms in recent years. They both enable shared global model training while keeping data localized on users' devices. The former excels in parallel execution capabilities, while the latter enjoys low dependence on edge computing resources and strong privacy protection. Split federated learning (SFL) combines the strengths of both FL and SL, making it one of the most popular distributed architectures. Furthermore, a recent study has claimed that SFL exhibits robustness against poisoning attacks, with a fivefold improvement compared to FL in terms of robustness. In this paper, we present a novel poisoning attack known as MISA. It poisons both the top and bottom models, causing a misalignment in the global model, ultimately leading to a drastic accuracy collapse. This attack unveils the vulnerabilities in SFL, challenging the conventional belief that SFL is robust against poisoning attacks. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed MISA poses a significant threat to the availability of SFL, underscoring the imperative for academia and industry to accord this matter due attention. Medical report generation is crucial for clinical diagnosis and patient management, summarizing diagnoses and recommendations based on medical imaging. However, existing work often overlook the clinical pipeline involved in report writing, where physicians typically conduct an initial quick review followed by a detailed examination. Moreover, current alignment methods may lead to misaligned relationships. To address these issues, we propose DAMPER, a dual-stage framework for medical report generation that mimics the clinical pipeline of report writing in two stages. In the first stage, a MeSH-Guided Coarse-Grained Alignment (MCG) stage that aligns chest X-ray (CXR) image features with medical subject headings (MeSH) features to generate a rough keyphrase representation of the overall impression. In the second stage, a Hypergraph-Enhanced Fine-Grained Alignment (HFG) stage that constructs hypergraphs for image patches and report annotations, modeling high-order relationships within each modality and performing hypergraph matching to capture semantic correlations between image regions and textual phrases. Finally,the coarse-grained visual features, generated MeSH representations, and visual hypergraph features are fed into a report decoder to produce the final medical report. Extensive experiments on public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of DAMPER in generating comprehensive and accurate medical reports, outperforming state-of-the-art methods across various evaluation metrics. Real-world networks are often constructed from different sources or domains, including various types of entities and diverse relationships between networks, thus forming multi-domain networks. A single network typically fails to capture the complete graph structure and the diverse relationships among multiple networks. Consequently, leveraging multiple networks is crucial for a comprehensive detection of community structures. Most existing local community detection methods discover community structures by integrating information from different views on multi-view networks. However, methods designed for multi-view networks are not suitable for multi-domain networks. Therefore, to mine communities from multiple networks, we propose a Local Algorithm for Multiple networks with node Affiliation, called LAMA, which is suitable for both multi-view and multi-domain networks. The core idea of LAMA is to optimize node affiliations by maximizing the quality of communities within each network while ensuring consistency in community structures across multiple networks. The algorithm iteratively optimizes node affiliations and expands the community outward based on affiliations to detect the community containing the seed node. Experimental results show that LAMA outperforms comparison algorithms on two synthetic datasets and five real datasets. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper studies the application of cognitive radio inspired non-orthogonal multiple access (CR-NOMA) to reduce age of information (AoI) for uplink transmission. In particular, a time division multiple access (TDMA) based legacy network is considered, where each user is allocated with a dedicated time slot to transmit its status update information. The CR-NOMA is implemented as an add-on to the TDMA legacy network, which enables each user to have more opportunities to transmit by sharing other user’s time slots. A rigorous analytical framework is developed to obtain the expressions for AoIs achieved by CR-NOMA with and without re-transmission, by taking the randomness of the status update generating process into consideration. Numerical results are presented to verify the accuracy of the developed analysis. It is shown that the AoI can be significantly reduced by applying CR-NOMA compared to TDMA. Moreover, the use of re-transmission is helpful to reduce AoI, especially when the status arrival rate is low. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Accurate short-term electric load forecasting is crucial for ensuring the stability and efficiency of the power grid. This study proposes an innovative dual-branch electric load forecasting model that enhances the accuracy of predictions by processing global and local features in parallel. Global features are extracted through the Savitzky-Golay filter and a linear model to capture the overall trends of the load data. Local features are identified using the Convolutional Self-Attention Module, which integrates the local perception capabilities of Convolutional neural network with the self-attention mechanism of Transformers. By employing a Weighted Feature Fusion Network, we effectively integrate global and local information to enhance the performance of load forecasting. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model significantly outperforms existing models in predictive performance. The model presented in this study offers a new perspective on electric load forecasting and has the potential to become an effective tool for power system planning and scheduling.

Exploring Text-Guided Single Image Editing for Remote Sensing Images

Artificial intelligence generative content (AIGC) has significantly impacted image generation in the field of remote sensing. However, the equally important area of remote sensing image (RSI) editing has not received sufficient attention. Deep learning based editing methods generally involve two sequential stages: generation and editing. During the generation stage, consistency in content and details between the original and edited images must be maintained, while in the editing stage, controllability and accuracy of the edits should be ensured. For natural images, these challenges can be tackled by training generative backbones on large-scale benchmark datasets and using text guidance based on vision-language models (VLMs). However, these previously effective approaches become less viable for RSIs due to two reasons: First, existing generative RSI benchmark datasets do not fully capture the diversity of remote sensing scenarios, particularly in terms of variations in sensors, object types, and resolutions. Consequently, the generalization capacity of the trained backbone model is often inadequate for universal editing tasks on RSIs. Second, the large spatial resolution of RSIs exacerbates the problem in VLMs where a single text semantic corresponds to multiple image semantics, leading to the introduction of incorrect semantics when using text to guide RSI editing. To solve above problems, this paper proposes a text-guided RSI editing method that is controllable but stable, and can be trained using only a single image. It adopts a multi-scale training approach to preserve consistency without the need for training on extensive benchmark datasets, while leveraging RSI pre-trained VLMs and prompt ensembling (PE) to ensure accuracy and controllability in the text-guided editing process. High-quality RSI editing results can be achieved by first applying multi-scale training to the target image, followed by text-guided fine-tuning using RSI pre-trained VLMs and PE. Experi

Introducing virtualization enhances the flexibility of time-sensitive networking (TSN), wherein applications manifest as service function chains comprising a series of virtual network functions (VNFs). However, such virtualized TSN realizes determinacy through global configuration, being too complicated to serve dynamic applications in time. To address this issue, we innovatively propose to achieve TSN scheduling by distributively executing admission control (AC), whereby the scheduling complexity is radically reduced. Specifically, we first build a two-way AC model that captures TSN multi-queue characteristics. Then, we define admissible regions of nodes and links, working as metrics for AC decision-making and enabling feasible TSN scheduling. Built upon this, we propose a joint AC and VNF embedding mechanism, Rapid Admission Control (RapidAC), which consists of two algorithms. The first algorithm responds to dynamic applications rapidly and derives node-mapping solutions by judging nodes’ admissible regions. Based on this, the second algorithm augments the detailed VNF embedding solution according to admissible regions of links. Simulation results show that RapidAC reduces runtime by 90% compared with existing TSN scheduling algorithms.
