Low Earth Orbit satellite constellations are highly mobile and thus have time-varying network topologies. Such time-varying networks face various challenges due to intermittently available links and devices. Consequently, many routing algorithms that work well on the terrestrial Internet may not be suitable for Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellations. This paper provides an analysis of the impact that different types of routing algorithms may have on the performance of LEO constellations. The provided study analyses not only link-state routing algorithms, as used in well-known routing protocols for LEO constellations such as Contact Graph Routing (CGR), which follows a Software Defined Networking (SDN) approach, but also distance-vector algorithms, as well as the potential combination of link-state and distance-vector algorithms when network clusters are used in a LEO constellation. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper evaluates the QoE of video and audio transmission over a full-duplex wireless LAN with interference traffic through a computer simulation and a subjective experiment. We employ a simulation environment with a pair of audiovisual transmission and reception terminals and a pair of interference traffic transmission and reception ones. We investigate the effect of the transmission rate of interference traffic and communication distance in a wireless channel on the output quality of the video and audio stream at the reception terminal. We perform a subjective experiment with the output timing of video and audio obtained by the simulation. © 2023 IEEE.

Thanks to constantly advancing technology, the world is changing rapidly. One such idea that has contributed to the reality of automation is the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT links various non-living objects to the internet and enables them to communicate with their local network to automate processes and simplify people’s lives. The IoT’s potential needs to be completely realised despite the enormous efforts of standards, organisations, coalitions, businesses, academics and others. A number of problems remain. The enabling technology, applications and business models, as well as the social and environmental repercussions, should all be taken into consideration while analysing these difficulties. This article’s emphasis is on unresolved issues and challenges from a technological perspective. The main objective is to provide a thorough evaluation of IoT in terms of energy and security, as well as unresolved problems and obstacles that need further study. This article proposes a machine learning (ML)-based approach to solve a graph optimization problem, named network intervention with limited degradation (NILD), which aims at adding new edges to augment the graph to minimize the local clustering coefficient (LCC) of a target node. The main application of NILD is to perform network intervention, to improve the mental well-being of individuals. This article proposes a new framework, named network intervention with self-supervision (NISS), which employs reinforcement learning and self-supervised learning (SSL) to effectively solve the problem. We propose two new effective pretext tasks in SSL, Distance-to-target prediction task and LCC increment prediction task to improve the model performance. In addition, we also propose two new embedding approaches, neighborhood embedding (NE) and constraint property embedding (CPE), to capture the structural information of the graph. Extensive experiments on multiple real social networks and synthetic datasets show that our proposed approach significantly outperforms the other state-of-the-art baselines, including ML-based baselines and deterministic algorithms. © 2014 IEEE.

Passenger transport is one of the most common ways of commuting in Taiwan. It plays an important role in the transportation system due to its large number of stations, dense frequency, and cheap transportation. Due to the unfriendly transportation environment and a large number of passengers, a blind spot of passenger transportation exists, which leads to traffic accidents at the station. We research to make the Bus Stop Passenger Detection System. Taking the object detection of Wheelchairs into consideration, it is more convenient to assist the disabled to find the passenger transportation system, which makes Taiwan's transportation system more convenient. © 2023 IEEE.

With constant hardware improvements allowing for increasingly large memory sizes, in-memory database servers have become an attractive option for various cloud applications. Even though in-memory database servers store all data in memory, there is still a need to persist data onto an I/O device for maintenance, updates, or protection against server crashes. In high throughput environments, persistence happens often, significantly hindering server throughput performance. Although popular in-memory database servers such as Redis or Dragonfly DB have adopted asynchronous I/O for socket operations, none have extended this approach for persistence. This results in significantly longer time taken for persistence, leading to prolonged reduced throughput. Given the recent introduction of io_uring, which has demonstrated significant performance improvements over past asynchronous I/O APIs, we have decided to implement it into Redis to evaluate its effectiveness in reducing these performance overheads. Our findings indicate that io_uring can significantly enhance performance in use cases with medium to large payload sizes but may hinder performances in use cases involving small payload sizes due to higher complexity and higher operation cost per datapoint. This method can likely be applied to other servers, such as Dragonfly DB and Memcached, to achieve similar benefits in appropriate scenarios. Additionally, in-memory database server persistence can serve as valuable benchmarks for further io_uring development and optimization. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Research related to digital assets & ownership is currently rising along with the escalation utilization of Blockchain through various use cases and its derevatives, for example in facilitating Digital Assets in the form of virtual property (virtual houses / buildings and virtual land) in the Metaverse. These digital assets often have utilities, features, and even limited copies of quantities so that these digital objects have more value for specific users on a platform and even general people who are interested in and value them. To be able to preserve the value of digital assets in the Metaverse such as virtual property previously mentioned especially for transactions, a set of regulations/governance, as well as sustainable development in the future in the Metaverse is really needed so that the use of Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) in the metaverse is one way to maintain the sustainability of the ecosystem & market and its potential of virtual property. After conducting research for DAO development for virtual property transactions, starting with determining goals & purposes, breaking down the DAO focus object (virtual property), clustering relevant attributes, matching socio-economic impacts, and finally designing smart contracts & governance consensus, we obtained 4 main layers namely Consensus Governance, Smart Contract, Virtual Property & Socio-Economic. © 2023 IEEE.

The Information technology/Operational technology convergence towards Industry 4.0 opens the opportunity to leverage recent advancements in Information technology for Operational technology, such as Cloud, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence. Meanwhile, cyber-attacks are increasing for Operational technology. The security aspect in Operational technology systems has traditionally been a low priority, in contrast with speed. This introduces challenges as Industrial Control Systems such as programmable Logic Controller in Operational technology have been traditionally optimized for speed rather than security due to limited computing power. As computations need to be as efficient as possible, security in Operational technology has yet to be managed as robustly as in Information technology. Operational technology communication protocols for securing data transfer, for example, have no or just a few security capabilities, even for basic authentication and encryption. Common security algorithms rely on random numbers. However, Random Number Generator is not usually part of standard functions in programmable Logic Controllers, the core control component in Industrial Control Systems. In Industrial Control Systems, the Random Number Generator is mostly implemented as a software-based Pseudo Random Number Generator. This paper shows how to apply a Pseudo Random Number Generator in a Siemens Compact PLC S7-1200 using a modified lightweight XORshift algorithm. The XORshift algorithm can generate better randomness than the system's clock-based implementation in the Siemens Library of Generic Functions. © 2023 IEEE.

SFA-Net: A Selective Features Absorption Network for Object Detection in Rainy Weather Conditions

In recent years, object detection approaches using deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have derived major advances in normal images. However, such success is hardly achieved with rainy images due to lack of visibility. Aiming to bridge this gap, in this article, we present a novel selective features absorption network (SFA-Net) to improve the performance of object detection not only in rainy weather conditions but also in favorable weather conditions. SFA-Net accomplishes this objective by utilizing three subnetworks, where the feature selection subnetwork is concatenated with the object detection subnetwork through the feature absorption subnetwork to form a unified model. To promote further advancement in object detection impaired by rain, we propose a large-scale rainy image dataset, named srRain, which contains both synthetic rainy images and real-world rainy images for training and testing purposes. srRain is comprised of 25 900 rainy images depicting diverse driving scenarios in the presence of rain with a total of 181 164 instances interpreting five common object categories. Experimental results display that our SFA-Net reaches the highest mean average precision (mAP) of 77.53% on a normal image set, 62.52% on a synthetic rainy image set, 37.34% on a collected natural rainy image set, and 32.86% on a published real rainy image set, surpassing current state-of-the-art object detectors and the combination of image deraining and object detection models while retaining a high speed. © 2012 IEEE.
