Dynamic weight-based connectivity recovery in wireless sensor and actor networks

Wireless sensors and actor networks (WSANs) have been widely used in various fields, from basic data collection to precise real-time control and monitoring, including battlefield monitoring, rescue, and exploration. The actor nodes in a WSAN play a key role in processing and transmitting data, and because of the harsh environmental conditions encountered, network node failures are prone to occur. The failure of an actor causes a loss of connectivity with its neighbor nodes, resulting in network splits and failure to deliver messages between nodes. Therefore, determining how to quickly and autonomously recover network connectivity while minimizing the moving distance of backup nodes and the number of relocated nodes is crucial. In this paper, we propose a dynamic weight-based connectivity recovery (DWCR) method to minimize the total moving distance of actor nodes, the number of relocated nodes, the total messages sent, and the coverage loss rate. The proposed DWCR method involves selecting a backup node for each critical node by dynamically adjusting the weight. If a critical node fails, the backup node starts to move to restore the connectivity of the failed node. The simulation results indicate that the proposed DWCR method outperforms the recovery through inward motion (RIM) method and other methods in terms of minimizing the total moving distance, the number of relocated nodes, and the total messages sent. However, because the RIM algorithm requires the relocation of more nodes during the network process, the DWCR algorithm is slightly inferior to the RIM algorithm in terms of coverage loss rate. Nevertheless, the DWCR algorithm still outperforms the distributed actor recovery algorithm and the distributed autonomous connectivity restoration method based on finite state machine algorithm. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

In order to analyze progresses of rheumatoid arthritis, we are developing an application to measure the distance between finger joints from X-ray images. In this paper, we focus on second joints, which are known to be prone to arthritis. We have proposed a method of filtering images and detecting edges, which has improved accuracy. Experimental results show that practical application of this system will reduce the burden on physicians and contribute to early detection of rheumatoid arthritis. © 2023 IEEE.

Quantum encoding is a process to transform classical information into quantum states. It plays a crucial role in using quantum algorithms to solve classical problems, especially in quantum machine learning tasks. There are many QE methods. It is very difficult to determine which QE method to choose to improve classification accuracy. Therefore, this paper will analyze several QE methods. Training and testing on Iris flower datasets were performed in a architecture quantum circuit and some performances parameters were evaluated. The expected result is that we can compare the classification accuracy of some of these Quantum encodings. © 2022 IEEE.

Based on WHO's data, breast cancer is one of the most deadly diseases that has claimed many victims, especially women. This disease begins with the presence of an undetected and eventually turns into malignant (cancer). This happens due to ignorance of the importance of having a medical check-up even though in good health. Doctors and researchers can prevent the development of tumor cells through treatment that begins with radiological examinations to identify the possibility of a person being affected by this disease. One of the most frequently used techniques is Mammography. This technique can detect the presence of tumor cells using advanced technology and several methods in displaying the patient's diagnostic results on low-dose X-rays in the form of mammogram images. The technology is inseparable from the methods used to identify the presence of tumor cells. In this study, we have proposed the CNN method based on the deep-CNN model to identify mammogram images in the detection of breast cancer cells with average evaluation results in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, specificity, and f-measure on mammogram image datasets of 99.52%, 99.72%, 99.31%, 99.72%, and 99.5%. These results showed that this method has a good performance in breast cancer detection. © 2023 IEEE.

With the growing demands for Precision Agriculture (PA) in Indonesia, researchers have evaluated the utilization of Machine Learning for predicting oil palm yields and determining variables affecting them. Previous studies showed that meteorological variables, including rainfalls and wind speed, are associated with oil palm yields. In this research, the Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model and the Shapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) were deployed for analyzing the importance of 15 agrometeorological variables in predicting oil palm yield. The best model attained 1.911 RMSE and 0.855 RRʹ. By analyzing the weights and gains of the XGBoost model along with the SHAP values, it was found that the yield in the previous year, the age and number of plants, the area of peat lands, and meteorological parameters such as rainfall rates and the number of rainy days in the previous three years were considered important. The previous year's yield in particular possesses the greatest weight and gain values according to the model, and the highest SHAP value among all input variables. However, the meteorological data used in this research are only limited to rainfall rates and the number of rainy days. In the future, more diverse variables can be analyzed. © 2023 The Authors. A semi-analytical finite element method(SAFEM),based on the two-scale asymptotic homogenization method(AHM)and the finite element method(FEM),is implemented to obtain the effective properties of two-phase fiber-reinforced composites(FRCs).The fibers are periodically distributed and unidirectionally aligned in a homogeneous *** framework addresses the static linear elastic micropolar problem through partial differential equations,subject to boundary conditions and perfect interface contact *** mathematical formulation of the local problems and the effective coefficients are presented by the *** local problems obtained from the AHM are solved by the FEM,which is denoted as the *** numerical results are provided,and the accuracy of the solutions is analyzed,indicating that the formulas and results obtained with the SAFEM may serve as the reference points for validating the outcomes of experimental and numerical computations.

The Internet of Things (IoTs) have become ubiquitous in all aspects of public needs today. The application of IoT technology is crucial for promoting energy-saving behavior. This paper presents a control system used for smart home devices based on hand gesture control and Android applications. The hardware design uses the ESP32 microcontroller, which has an in-chip Wi-Fi module, making it very suitable for creating IoT application systems. The software was designed using the Arduino IDE, and the application display design was developed using Kodular Creator, which is used to control the lamps and switches. The experiment results show that the electrical equipment can be activated using the Android application with gesture sensors by waving down, up, left, and right. © 2023 IEEE.

Innovative safety in the workplace is vital as the high safety risks associated with electrical engineering construction can lead to injuries or even fatalities. Using computer vision technology, we experimented with scenarios such as 'normal operations' and 'unexpected incidents' to enhance safety measures. We integrated an Internet of Things system into the setup, enabling the system to quickly detect and alert to unexpected events in real-time, thereby improving workplace safety. © 2024 IEEE.

This research aims to create a virtual reality-based practice system that simulates real-stage performance environments, assisting amateur dancers in overcoming stage fright and practicing group choreography that is difficult to achieve during individual practice. In this study, users can engage in performance simulations within the created system using the HTC VIVE virtual reality device. Within the system, we have developed a virtual stage space system that only requires a 2m x 3.5m physical area to simulate a large virtual stage experience. Users can also simulate choreographic positioning with virtual dance partners within this system, providing amateur dancers with group dance rehearsal practice opportunities that are not feasible during solo practice. Additionally, by creating three different audience modes, we aim to help users simulate various audience scenarios they may encounter during a performance. The system includes a recording feature that captures users' simulated performances, allowing them to review their actions and receive feedback after practice. © 2024 IEEE.

Digital transformation is about transforming processes, business models, domains, and culture. Studies show that the failure rate of digital transformation is quite high up to 90%. Studies show that the transformational leadership model has a significant impact on digital transformation adoption. This paper identifies the positive and negative attributes of transformational leadership including the components that support and are affected for successful adoption of digital transformation. Furthermore, the paper combines several findings related to the attributes and components in the form of a conceptual framework. The conceptual framework can serve as a guide for organizations for their digital transformation journey. © 2023 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.
