Adolescence is an important part of growing up to become an adult;keeping adolescent physique healthy is very important because poor dietary choices and a sedentary lifestyle will lead to diseases that they shouldn't have experienced yet. That is why teenagers need to be engaged to do more health- promoting behaviors, one way is by implementing gamification. This paper seeks to study which kind of gamification elements can be implemented from past research and whether the results were effective or not to prove whether gamification is a valid and effective strategy. At the same time, we are creating a gamified prototype for the mobile platform. The methodology starts with a systematic review of PubMed, MDPI, and Google Scholar to get a general idea of which gamification elements are the most implemented. Then a prototype will be made with the most used gamified elements from the systematic review. And then participants ranging from 10 - 19 years old will test the prototype and will give their opinions via a survey, From this, it is proven by our own gamified prototype survey results that using gamification as a way to engage teenagers is a fun and engaging way to do more health-promoting behaviors with a mostly positive feedbacks with the average rating of 8.33 out of 10 given from the participants. © 2024 IEEE.

As of 2023, Indonesia ranks as the second largest waste-producing country globally. The waste produced is not segregated properly, leading to the vast amount of waste piling up in local landfills. Traditional methods, such as manual sorting, have been widely used to segregate waste but suffer from inefficiencies and inaccuracies. In contrast, deep learning models offer an alternative solution for waste classification, overcoming the limitations of traditional methods. A deep learning approach using YOLOv8 was proposed to classify waste into six distinct categories. Three different YOLOv8 variants: nano, small, and medium, are trained after the dataset has been augmented into 3,500 labeled images. The results indicate that these models were able to achieve high accuracy in classifying images, with the nano variant having the least training time and an accuracy of approximately 89%. © 2024 The Authors.

Virtual Reality (VR) is a technology that allows users to interact with a simulated environment created by virtual reality capabilities through the intermediary of computers, simulator tools, and others, providing new experiences and can feel experiences that are not possible in the real world. This research aims to identify and analyze what challenges may occur such as technical, social, and ethical barriers in the development and application of VR technology. Using a mixed methods approach, we collected quantitative data from Kaggle's dataset and conducted in-depth interviews with active VR users. Our findings show that although VR has significant potential in various fields, such as education, healthcare, and entertainment, challenges such as motion sickness, high costs, and limited and engaging content hinder the widespread adoption of VR technology. The study also highlights the importance of improving technologies that need to be implemented such as visual capabilities, motion responsiveness, and audio quality to enhance the user experience when using VR. By overcoming these barriers, VR can maximize its positive impact and become a revolutionary tool in various sectors. © 2024 The Authors.

Vision impairment, often caused by preventable ocular diseases can be challenging to diagnose accurately and prone to human error. Automation using technology, particularly deep learning, offers a promising solution to aid in accurate and efficient disease detection. This study explores the use of different CNN models specifically VGG-16, VGG-19, ResNet-50, and ResNet-152v2, for detecting ocular diseases. Simple fine-tuning is applied to these models, and their performance is compared to identify the most effective model. The purpose is to show how different models contribute to establishing reliable illness detection systems. The results reveal that most of these models perform well with even minimal fine-tuning. Among the models, ResNet-152v2 achieved the highest training accuracy of 90.36% demonstrating its capacity to learn from the training data. In contrast, ResNet-50 offered a more balanced performance with marginally lower accuracy, making it a robust choice for general application. © 2024 The Authors.

With the increase of interest in Facial Expression Recognition (FER) in the past few decades. Several challenges surfaced with the invention of many different FER models which are often based on Convolution Neural Network (CNN) architectures. Recently, an attention-based transformer model has been presented to address FER. One of the major issues with Transformers is the need for a large data quantity for training. Therefore, in this paper, we propose to learn how to fine-tune a vision transformer-based (ViT) model using a limited dataset. We will be using the JAFFE Dataset, which consists of only 213 images containing seven different emotions. The proposed method is evaluated using several fine-tuning methods, such as adding dropout, data augmentation, and layer freezing. We compared the models implemented with 5% dropout regularization, augmented dataset (up to 5000 images), and freezing the initial model's layers, fine-tuning around a fourth of the last layers. The best model was achieved by fine-tuning ViT L-16 with 96.06% accuracy, trained with 5% dropout in the augmented dataset, and freezing the initial 21st layers. We also compared our model to the other previous work model and the results showed that our model reached the state-of-the art for the JAFFE dataset. © 2024 The Authors.

The increasing demand for personalized products and a global presence complicates inventory management, requiring accurate and timely stock information. To address this, businesses must leverage Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, which connect various electronic devices to the internet via advancements in cloud technology, sensor networks, and wireless communication. This research proposes a tailored IoT architecture for warehouse inventory checking processes, focusing on real-time tracking and visibility, cost reduction, enhanced security, improved inventory management, and increased supply chain speed. Implementing an IoT-based Warehouse Inventory Management system, designed with four layers (Physical, Gateway, Middleware, and Application), significantly improves operational efficiency and inventory tracking. While human involvement remains necessary, IoT solutions optimize inventory management and enhance overall efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

We have been developing MEIMAT (MEiji Microprocessor Architecture Design Tools). The MEIMAT is essentially designed to be able to represent any instruction of various processors by the MEIMAT meta-instruction in two ways of semantic and functional expressions. In this paper, we have verified the RISC-V support to the MEIMAT, and have improved so that MEIMAT further supports RISC-V. First, we have verified whether the RISC-V instructions can be expressed by the MEIMAT semantic expression. It is also verified that the functional expression is automatically generated from the semantic instruction, and the corresponding correct circuit diagrams are generated in the MEIMAT instruction visualization tool. Then, we have newly developed a stage configuration mechanism to implement the RISC-V instructions. Because the RISC-V architecture is implemented by 4 or 5 processing stages in most actual processors. To develop further an easy-to-understand design tool, we have also introduced illustration windows for RISC-V specified hardware modules such as a register file, especially a status register in the instruction visualization tool. Finally, through these verifications and improvements, we have successfully confirmed that the 43 instructions in the RISCV (RV32I) instructions set of the RISC-V architecture can be converted into MEIMAT meta-instructions, and then they can be represented as circuit diagrams with the RISC-V stage configuration in the MEIMAT instruction visualization tool. © 2023 IEEE.

Racing is one of the most prominent genres in the modern video game industry, where the games within the genre enable players to use any vehicle of their choice and win through doing series of action within gameplay. Thus, it made the genre popular over the years, spawning many famous titles such as Split Second back in 2010. Like every other video game title, Split Second also invokes the player emotion and instinct during its gameplay session. To understand the emotion and instinct aspect present in players of the game, we will use 6-11 framework which focuses on the two aspects. As part of the conclusion, Split Second game involves instincts such as Competition, Collecting, and Survival, with emotions including Fear, Pride, Joy, and Excitement, which can be found from its vast single player game modes. © 2024 The Authors.

In offshore aquaculture operations, personnel equipped with diving gear are often necessary to inspect the underwater net cages for damage, particularly on the sea floor. This manual inspection process is time-consuming and complex. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a computer vision solution for identifying damage in underwater net cages to address the inefficiencies and challenges of traditional manual inspections. The proposed scheme utilizes a high-performance multi-branch computational architecture designed based on ShuffleNet architecture to detect net cage damage more efficiently. Experimental results demonstrate that this work performs well on the ImageNet ILSVRC-2010 dataset and achieves an accuracy of 88.54% in underwater net damage detection. © 2024 IEEE.

Experimental evaluation of MIMO configurations in indoor visible light communications under the consideration of illumination

Visible light communications (VLC) enable wireless data transmission using existing light-emitting diode (LED) illumination. This experimental study evaluates the performance of multiple input and multiple output (MIMO) configurations in indoor VLC systems by analyzing their impact on both communication and illumination. Various MIMO setups (2 × 2, 3 × 2, and 4 × 2) are compared against single input single output (SISO), and single input multiple outputs (SIMO) schemes, using commercial LED luminaires as transmitters. While the 4 × 2 MIMO configuration demonstrates superior overall performance, intermediate configurations like 3 × 2 or 2 × 2 MIMO offer an attractive trade-off between system complexity and performance enhancement, particularly in scenarios with space or cost constraints. The results show that MIMO configurations significantly outperform SISO systems, achieving reliable communication (BER ≤ 10−3) at practical indoor distances of up to 2 meters while maintaining illumination levels above 300 lux, where conventional SISO setups do not meet these dual requirements. These findings demonstrate the practical feasibility of MIMO-VLC systems for indoor deployments. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group under the terms of the Optica Open Access Publishing Agreement.
