Node Reliability: Approximation, Upper Bounds, and Applications to Network Robustness

This paper discusses the reliability of a graph in which the links are perfectly reliable but the nodes may fail with certain probability p. Calculating graph node reliability is an NP-Hard problem. We introduce an efficient and accurate Monte Carlo method and a stochastic approximation for the node reliability polynomial based solely on the degree distribution. We provide the formulas for the node reliability polynomial of both Erdős–Rényi graphs and Random Geometric graphs. The phase transition in the node reliability of Erdős–Rényi graphs such as are also discussed. Additionally, we propose two increasingly accurate upper bounds for the node reliability polynomial solely based on the graph’s degree distributions. The advantages and disadvantages of these two upper bounds are thoroughly compared. Beyond the computation of node reliability polynomials, we also estimate the number of cut sets and present a solution to the reliability-based network enhancement problem. This paper presents a novel methodology to design fault secured JPEG-compression-decompression (codec) hardware accelerator with piracy detective control using secure fingerprint template of intellectual property (IP) vendor. In the proposed approach, firstly, the fault secured schedule for JPEG-codec design is generated from its behavioral description. Subsequently, in order to enable detective control against piracy, secure digital template corresponding to fingerprint biometric of IP vendor is generated and implanted into the design. In order to do so, firstly, fingerprint features are transformed based on IP vendor specified key-set. Subsequently, the generated secure fingerprint template in the form of encoded hardware security constraints is implanted into the design during behavioral/ high-level synthesis phase of integrated circuit (IC) design. The implanted hardware security constraints thereby ensure the seamless detection and isolation of fake/pirated design versions during piracy detection process, before their conjunction into system on chip (SoC) of electronic systems. The proposed approach achieves the following: i) fault secured hardware accelerator for JPEG-codec with integrated piracy detective control at negligible design cost overhead ii) higher resiliency against tampering attack and iii) lower probability of coincidence (indicating definitive proof of ownership for genuine IP vendor).

Boosting drug-disease association prediction for drug repositioning via dual-feature extraction and cross-dual-domain decoding

The extraction of biomedical data has significant academic and practical value in contemporary biomedical sciences. In recent years, drug repositioning, a cost-effective strategy for drug development by discovering new indications for approved drugs, has gained increasing attention. However, many existing drug repositioning methods focus on mining information from adjacent nodes in biomedical networks without considering the potential inter-relationships between the feature spaces of drugs and diseases. This can lead to inaccurate encoding, resulting in biased mined drug-disease association information. To address this limitation, we propose a new model called Dual-Feature Drug Repurposing Neural Network (DFDRNN). DFDRNN allows the mining of two features (similarity and association) from the drug-disease biomedical networks to encode drugs and diseases. A self-attention mechanism is utilized to extract neighbor feature information. It incorporates two dual-feature extraction modules: the single-domain dual-feature extraction (SDDFE) module for extracting features within a single domain (drugs or diseases) and the cross-domain dual-feature extraction (CDDFE) module for extracting features across domains. By utilizing these modules, we ensure more appropriate encoding of drugs and diseases. A cross-dual-domain decoder is also designed to predict drug-disease associations in both domains. Our proposed DFDRNN model outperforms six state-of-the-art methods on four benchmark datasets, achieving an average AUROC of 0.946 and an average AUPR of 0.597. Case studies on two diseases show that the proposed DFDRNN model can be applied in real-world scenarios, demonstrating its significant potential in drug repositioning. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. For finite dimensional algebras over algebraically closed fields, we study the sets of pairwise Hom-orthogonal modules and obtain new results on some open conjectures on the behaviour of bricks and several related problems, which we generally refer to as brick-Brauer-Thrall (bBT) conjectures. Using some algebraic and geometric tools, and in terms of the notion of Hom-orthogonality, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of infinite families of bricks of the same dimension. This sheds new light on the bBT conjectures and we prove some of them for new families of algebras. Our results imply some interesting algebraic and geometric characterizations of brick-finite algebras as conceptual generalizations of local algebras. We also verify the bBT conjectures for any algebra whose Auslander-Reiten quiver has a generalized standard component, which particularly extends some results of Chindris-Kinser-Weyman on the algebras with preprojective *** Codes 16G20, 16G60, 16D80, 16E30 Copyright © 2024, The Authors. When following the Component-based Architecture (CBA), Web Services (WSs), as individual components, are composed to meet the functional and non-functional requirements of users. As the number of available WSs increases, this process becomes more complex. Therefore, designers must be able to easily (1) define, (2) select, (3) verify, and (4) execute composite WSs. While many papers focus on the execution phase, our work specifically aims at the definition and verification phases of combining WSs. To achieve this, we introduce a WS composition method that uses semantic descriptions to define functional information and select relevant WSs. A formal mathematical model is then used to verify the composite WSs. In our approach, we map OWL-based semantic service descriptions to Coloured Petri Nets model and use its algorithms to automatically compute reachable combinations. We apply our method to Question Answering (QA) systems, where WSs serve as functional services that are combined to answer natural-language questions. The results demonstrate that the proposed method helps to significantly reduce the search space of composite WSs during the selection phase.

In recent years, blockchain technology has garnered considerable interest on account of its peer-to-peer, distributed consensus, and anonymity functionalities. A smart contract functions as a verifiable, self-executing, and self-validating computing layer. This study seeks to identify the key concepts and associated future research goals pertaining to smart contracts based on the blockchain. Smart contracts enable the implementation of programmable assets, including money, and the automation of business logic processes that were previously executed manually. In response to this disclosure, a comprehensive examination of smart contracts employing blockchain technology is undertaken. In this article, we propose an innovative and practical metamodel for ensuring the integrity of protocols within smart contracts facilitated by blockchain technology. This article begins with an explanation of smart contracts’ operational models, functionalities, and applications. Analysis of the results reveals that the utilisation of the model alleviates the workload associated with numerous measurements. Geography location and object report is a key aspect in field survey, nevertheless of the spatial level. This research shown the request of land survey by using no code software. The study process collects data in the first part, mainly using forms and brief descriptions. Later on technologies are applied with increasing the availability of smartphone and improvement of features of the smartphones. Detection expose that smartphone GIS technique has a high adeptness, precision and consistency as a data collection technique for land survey development. Ethics in AI becomes a global topic of interest for both policymakers and academic researchers. In the last few years, various research organizations, lawyers, think tankers, and regulatory bodies get involved in developing AI ethics guidelines and principles. However, there is still debate about the implications of these principles. We conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) study to investigate the agreement on the significance of AI principles and identify the challenging factors that could negatively impact the adoption of AI ethics principles. The results reveal that the global convergence set consists of 22 ethical principles and 15 challenges. Transparency, privacy, accountability and fairness are identified as the most common AI ethics principles. Similarly, lack of ethical knowledge and vague principles are reported as the significant challenges for considering ethics in AI. The findings of this study are the preliminary inputs for proposing a maturity model that assesses the ethical capabilities of AI systems and provides best practices for further improvements. © 2022 ACM.
