The article presents the torchosr package – a Python package compatible with PyTorch library – offering tools and methods dedicated to Open Set Recognition in Deep Neural networks. The package offers two state-of-the-art methods in the field, a set of functions for handling base sets and generation of derived sets for the Open Set Recognition task (where some classes are considered unknown and used only in the testing process) and additional tools to handle datasets and methods. The main goal of the package proposal is to simplify and promote the correct experimental evaluation, where experiments are carried out on a large number of derivative sets with various Openness and class-to-category assignments. The authors hope that state-of-the-art methods available in the package will become a source of a correct and open-source implementation of the relevant solutions in the domain. © 2023, CC BY-NC-SA.

LAN: Learning Adaptive Neighbors for Real-Time Insider Threat Detection

Enterprises and organizations are faced with potential threats from insider employees that may lead to serious consequences. Previous studies on insider threat detection (ITD) mainly focus on detecting abnormal users or abnormal time periods (e.g., a week or a day). However, a user may have hundreds of thousands of activities in the log, and even within a day there may exist thousands of activities for a user, requiring a high investigation budget to verify abnormal users or activities given the detection results. On the other hand, existing works are mainly post-hoc methods rather than real-time detection, which can not report insider threats in time before they cause loss. In this paper, we conduct the first study towards real-time ITD at activity level, and present a fine-grained and efficient framework LAN. Specifically, LAN simultaneously learns the temporal dependencies within an activity sequence and the relationships between activities across sequences with graph structure learning. Moreover, to mitigate the data imbalance problem in ITD, we propose a novel hybrid prediction loss, which integrates self-supervision signals from normal activities and supervision signals from abnormal activities into a unified loss for anomaly detection. We evaluate the performance of LAN on two widely used datasets, i.e., CERT r4.2 and CERT r5.2. Extensive and comparative experiments demonstrate the superiority of LAN, outperforming 9 state-of-the-art baselines by at least 9.92% and 6.35% in AUC for real-time ITD on CERT r4.2 and r5.2, respectively. Moreover, LAN can be also applied to post-hoc ITD, surpassing 8 competitive baselines by at least 7.70% and 4.03% in AUC on two datasets. Finally, the ablation study, parameter analysis, and compatibility analysis evaluate the impact of each module and hyper-parameter in LAN. The source code can be obtained from https://***/Li1Neo/LAN. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) technology is vital for vehicular networks, yet the time-varying communication channels and rapid movement of targets present significant challenges for real-time precoding design. Traditional optimization-based methods are computationally complex and strongly depend on perfect prior information, which is often unavailable in double-dynamic scenarios. In this paper, we propose a synesthesia of machine (SoM)-enhanced precoding paradigm that leverages modalities such as positioning and initial channel information to adapt to these dynamics. Utilizing a deep reinforcement learning (DRL) framework, our approach pushes ISAC performance boundaries. We also introduce a parameter-shared actor-critic architecture to accelerate training in complex state and action spaces. Extensive experiments validate the superiority of our method over existing approaches. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

This paper introduces a conversational framework that enhances the usability of smart energy system simulations. This study is centered around OpenAI's Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT), a fine-tuned conversational model that allows users to communicate with the system in a natural way. Therefore, users can describe their simulation scenarios in plain language and GPT seamlessly translates these descriptions into Python scripts, used as inputs to the simulation environment, in our case, AnyLogic Simulation Software. Our framework is based on the i7-AnyEnergy core framework to compute distribution flows and relevant statistics. The proposed human-machine interface facilitates and accelerates simulation modeling, as demonstrated through the two scenarios we have provided in this paper. Overall, our conversational framework has the potential to significantly improve the user experience of smart energy system simulation environments. By simplifying the interaction between users and complex simulation models, we enable users to obtain valuable insights rapidly and more easily.

Vehicular communication, underpinned by IEEE 802.11p/WAVE-based Vehicle Ad-hoc networks (VANETs), is instrumental in the seamless functioning of intra-vehicle exchanges. However, a comprehensive assessment of these systems reveals suboptimal efficiencies at the data layer, specifically regarding default broadcast intervals. Such inefficiencies lead to escalated packet collisions and subpar utilization of the delay time counter—factors that undermine the synergistic interplay between Active Safety Systems (ASS), such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and their passive safety counterparts. To address these intricacies, this research proposes an innovative mathematical framework tailored for the IEEE 802.11p MAC layer. We propose a model that elucidates the intricate dynamics of the delay time counter and offers refined broadcast intervals buttressed by robust algorithmic strategies. Empirical evaluations, conducted in meticulously simulated vehicular environments, validate the prowess of the proposed paradigm, highlighting a decline in packet collision instances. Quantitative findings from this research evince a notable decrease in packet collision rates and a commensurate enhancement in communication reliability, pivotal for advanced vehicular systems. Such technical augmentations directly elevate the operational reliability of cutting-edge safety mechanisms, exemplified by systems like the Toyota Pre-Crash Safety System.

This paper presents a robust and dependable monitoring system designed for space missions where reliability is critical. Theoretically, we use the Markov chain model to evaluate the availability of the system, considering multiple instances of backup devices. The results indicate a substantial improvement in system availability with the inclusion of backup devices. The findings highlight the significance of redundancy in enhancing system dependability while considering practical constraints. Based on this insight, we design an algorithm to deploy backup devices in the system that would improve the system's availability without putting strain on the resources (e.g., channel congestion). It uses backup devices at the sensor node and gateway levels. The algorithm involves backup devices that actively monitor and take over in case of failures, enhancing the system's ability to recover lost or faulty data. We test the system in three failure scenarios: hard failures, sensor failures, and gateway failures. We perform the experiments on our hardware prototypes. Experimental results demonstrate that using backup devices significantly improves the Packet Reception Ratio (PRR) in failure scenarios. We observed an improvement of 30 - 34% in packet reception for different failure scenarios.

The emerging space-terrestrial integrated networks (STIN) are envisioned to provide seamless connectivity for global coverage. As a promising key component for STIN, the Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellite network still faces significant technological challenges in routing for ensuring both reachability and efficiency, due to frequent topology changes and uneven load distribution. Load-balancing routing is a feasible solution to improve efficiency by alleviating regional overload, however, it may encounter either slow convergences or local perceptions. In this paper, we propose a Neighbor Load Rank (NLR) based load-balancing routing for LEO satellite networks, where potential congestion at the queue buffer of a satellite node is characterized by load scores of its neighboring satellites, so as to reduce the perspective limitation of local load-balancing routing. To accelerate routing convergence and reduce computational complexity, we design region delineation, boundary penalty and directional incentive strategies to obtain the approximate minimum hop count path. Meanwhile, we employ the topology-stabilizing model (TSM) to convert the frequent satellite-ground interconnection changes into traffic fluctuations. Simulations demonstrate that NLR can maintain low-latency capacity with lower transmission overhead and effectively balance the overloaded traffic.

This paper proposes a novel three-dimensional (3D) cluster-based sixth-generation (6G) model for millimeter wave (mmWave) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels. In the proposed model, a novel method based on visibility region (VR) is developed, where the smooth and consistent birth and death of clusters in both the time domain and space domain are successfully captured. By using the developed method, the space-time non-stationarity and time-space consistency of channels can be modeled for the first time. Based on the proposed model, important channel statistical properties are derived and thoroughly investigated. Simulation results demonstrate that the smooth birth and death of clusters, time-space consistency, and space-time non-stationarity are modeled sufficiently. © 2021 IEEE.
