Next Point-of-Interests (POIs) recommendation task aims to provide a dynamic ranking of POIs based on users’ current check-in trajectories. The recommendation performance of this task is contingent upon a comprehensive understanding of users’ personalized behavioral patterns through Location-based Social networks (LBSNs) data. While prior studies have adeptly captured sequential patterns and transitional relationships within users’ check-in trajectories, a noticeable gap persists in devising a mechanism for discerning specialized behavioral patterns during distinct time slots, such as noon, afternoon, or evening. In this paper, we introduce an innovative data structure termed the "Mobility Tree", tailored for hierarchically describing users’ check-in records. The Mobility Tree encompasses multi-granularity time slot nodes to learn user preferences across varying temporal periods. Meanwhile, we propose the Mobility Tree Network (MTNet), a multitask framework for personalized preference learning based on Mobility Trees. We develop a four-step node interaction operation to propagate feature information from the leaf nodes to the root node. Additionally, we adopt a multitask training strategy to push the model towards learning a robust representation. The comprehensive experimental results demonstrate the superiority of MTNet over ten state-of-the-art next POI recommendation models across three real-world LBSN datasets, substantiating the efficacy of time slot preference learning facilitated by Mobility Tree. Intrusion detection systems can detect any entity or intrusions that can cause a violation of confidentiality, integrity, or availability in a system or network. We reflect on the use of blockchain technology for intrusion detection in cyber systems in this paper. We review the state-of-the-art literature adopting different blockchain technology-based methods for intrusion detection systems and compare the methodologies used. We also identify the advantages and limitations of these existing approaches and analyze the performance evaluation metrics used in these studies. Further, we identify several open research issues in blockchain-based intrusion detection and suggest some future research directions based on our findings.

Software-defined networking decouples control and data plane in softwarized networks. This allows for centralized management of the network. However, complete centralization of the controller's functions raises the issue of the central point of failure, latency, and scalability. Distributed controller deployment is adopted to optimize scalability and latency problems. However, the existing controllers are monolithic, resulting in code inefficiency for distributed deployment. Recently, microservices-based SDN solutions have been started and deployed as virtual network functions, enabling flexible deployment. Nonetheless, the softwarization of network functionalities introduces network I/O performance degradation both considering deployments based on virtual machines and containers. This paper first introduces a microservices-based SDN solution based on Ryu SDN Framework. Then investigates whether running Ryu's network functionalities in a softwarized environment (e.g., virtual machine and container) would have a significant network I/O performance degradation. In particular, this work examines more in deep the Docker Container technology and analyzes its network setups. Multiple measurements were performed locally in a single machine. Our results show a comparison between microservices-based non-virtualized SDN Controller and the virtualized one, and moreover, show a comparison between different Docker Container network setups. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach.

Towards an intelligent photonic system

The emerging intelligence technologies represented by deep learning have broadened their applications to various fields. Beyond the conventional electronics-based processing systems, the convergence of photonics and artificial intelligence(AI) technology enhances the performance and learning ability of AI. In this review, we propose the concept of an intelligent photonic system(IPS), illustrating it as a developing architecture with three different versions. The Internet of Things is rapidly advancing, enabling interactions with the physical world and presenting various applications. Routing Protocol over Low-Power and Lossy networks (RPL) is the routing protocol introduced by the IETF for IoT environments. RPL has been subjected to multiple attacks, making it essential to develop a model that defines its behavior. To achieve this, we propose DEVS-RPL, which employs the discrete event model to specify the normal behavior of network nodes in generating RPL messages. DEVS-RPL estimates the mean and frequency of each generated RPL message by defining the participant states and utilizing the time advance function. As a proof of concept, the normal network traffic produced by the Cooja simulator is compared to the RPL messages generated by the DEVS-RPL model. We find that the mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of DEVS-RPL is less than 9%, indicating the high accuracy of the proposed model.

Multi-source visual information fusion and quality improvement can help the robotic system to perceive the real world. Image fusion is a computational technique fusing multisource images from multiple sensors into a synthesized image that provides a comprehensive or reliable description. Quality improvement techniques can be used to address the challenge of low-quality image analysis tasks [1][2][3][4][5][6]. At present, a lot of brain-inspired algorithm methods (or models) are aggressively proposed to accomplish these two tasks, and the artificial neural network has become one of the most popular techniques in processing image fusion and quality improvement techniques in this decade, especially deep convolutional neural networks [4][5][6][7][8]. User-Centric Markov Reward Model for State-Dependent Erlang Loss Systems- Example: Cloud Gaming with Admission Control

Markov reward models are commonly used in the analysis of systems by integrating a reward rate to each system state. Typically, rewards are defined based on system states and reflect the system’s perspective. From a user’s point of view, it is important to consider the changing system conditions and dynamics while the user consumes a service. As an exemplary use case, we consider cloud gaming and provide a Markov reward model to derive the user-centric and system-centric rewards. Thereby, we show by means of measurements that the cloud gaming scenario can be modeled with an Erlang loss model while the reward rates correspond to the video bitrates per *** key contributions are proper definitions for (i) system-centric reward and (ii) user-centric reward of the Erlang loss model M/M/n-0 and M/M(x)/n with state-dependent service rates, as well as (iii) the analysis of the relationships between those metrics. Our key result allows a simple computation of the user-centric rewards. For the cloud gaming use case, we provide (iv) numerical results on the trade-o between user-centric rewards and blocking probabilities to access the online cloud servers. We use Kleinrock’s power metric to identify operational points. Although the Software-Defined Network(SDN)is a well-controlled and efficient network but the complexity of open flow switches in SDN causes multiple *** solutions have been proposed so far for the prevention of errors and mistakes in it but yet,there is still no smooth transmission of pockets from source to destination specifically when irregular movements follow the destination host in SDN,the errors include packet loss,data compromise *** accuracy of packets received at their desired destination is possible if networks for pockets and hosts are monitored instead of analysis of network snapshot statistically for the state,as these approaches with open flow switches,discover bugs after their *** article proposes a design to achieve the said objective by defining the Intelligent Transmission Control Layer(ITCL)*** monitors all the connections of end hosts at their specific locations and performs necessary settlements when the connection state changes for one or multiple *** layer informs the controller regarding any state change at one period and controller collects information of end nodes reported via ***,updates flow tables accordingly to accommodate a location-change scenario with a routechange *** is organized on prototype-based implementation using the popular POX *** this paper,it has been discovered that ITCL produces efficient performance in the trafficking of packets and controlling different states of SDN for errors and packet loss.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc networks (VANETs) were introduced to avoid vehicular-related accidents and to improve the safety of both vehicular passengers and other road users. In VANETs, the vehicles are expected to communicate with neighbouring vehicles to increase awareness about the surrounding by using V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) communication links. Since the introduction of VANETs, much research has focused on developing state-of-the-art algorithms to increase safety. However, real-world testing of these developed algorithms has become challenging due to the required high cost and multiple practical reasons. Therefore, simulation-based testing is commonly used for VANETs related applications. Using real datasets inside a simulation can significantly increase the results’ accuracy and help to achieve realistic results. In this study, we present a dataset called ’CN+’, which consists of more than 25,000 vehicles collected over 32 hours at a signalized intersection in Bremen, Germany. paper © The Author(s) 2024.

This article describes a new technology for the formation of compacted code structures based on maximum length sequences. The most important distinguishing feature of the code division method presented here is the absence of requirements for the orthogonality of sequences that can be used as address combinations when organizing parallel data transmission. Thus, the identification of information recipients is carried out at the physical level using special signal-code structures. At the same time, it is possible to implement a system with anonymous recipients, when any of the recipient nodes does not have information about what data was transferred to other nodes. The communication system model built in accordance with such principles allows the use of the most noise-resistant type of modulation, for example, binary phase-shift keying. This, in turn, ensures the minimum peak factor of the signal. It is also worth noting that the main tool for processing the resulting compacted code structures are dual bases of Galois fields.
