The rise of cloud-based disaster recovery systems has reshaped disaster recovery practices. Integrated into the Hadoop framework with core components like Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), MapReduce, and Yet Another Resource Negotiator (YARN), these systems ensure data integrity and business continuity during crises while enhancing data reliability and operational efficiency, surpassing traditional recovery systems. This study presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of traditional and Hadoop-integrated cloud recovery systems, focusing on hardware architecture and performance. Architecturally, it highlights the stark differences between conventional models and Hadoop-based innovations. The results show that the Hadoop-backed recovery system exhibits remarkable improvement, reducing Recovery Time Objective (RTO) from over 18 seconds to under 7 seconds while preserving data integrity as per Recovery Point Objective (RPO) standards. This finding underscores the academic importance of evaluating cloud-based disaster recovery within the Hadoop context, offering insights into its transformative potential for disaster recovery strategies.

Salient Object Detection in Optical Remote Sensing Images Driven by Transformer

Existing methods for Salient Object Detection in Optical Remote Sensing Images (ORSI-SOD) mainly adopt Convolutional Neural networks (CNNs) as the backbone, such as VGG and ResNet. Since CNNs can only extract features within certain receptive fields, most ORSI-SOD methods generally follow the local-to-contextual paradigm. In this paper, we propose a novel Global Extraction Local Exploration Network (GeleNet) for ORSI-SOD following the global-to-local paradigm. Specifically, GeleNet first adopts a transformer backbone to generate four-level feature embeddings with global long-range dependencies. Then, GeleNet employs a Direction-aware Shuffle Weighted Spatial Attention Module (D-SWSAM) and its simplified version (SWSAM) to enhance local interactions, and a Knowledge Transfer Module (KTM) to further enhance cross-level contextual interactions. D-SWSAM comprehensively perceives the orientation information in the lowest-level features through directional convolutions to adapt to various orientations of salient objects in ORSIs, and effectively enhances the details of salient objects with an improved attention mechanism. SWSAM discards the direction-aware part of D-SWSAM to focus on localizing salient objects in the highest-level features. KTM models the contextual correlation knowledge of two middle-level features of different scales based on the self-attention mechanism, and transfers the knowledge to the raw features to generate more discriminative features. Finally, a saliency predictor is used to generate the saliency map based on the outputs of the above three modules. Extensive experiments on three public datasets demonstrate that the proposed GeleNet outperforms relevant state-of-the-art methods. As part of natural language processing, sentiment analysis intends to investigate the author's emotions while writing a given text. This paper proposes a new method that uses a co-occurrence graph that can be automatically extended in a background reading (and learning) process, when a person's additional text source is available. The proposed method applies the concepts of PageRank to find the sentiment value of a considered node depending on the sentiment value of predecessor nodes that point to it and iteratively process those values in the same manner. The experiment results showed that 1) the methods described converge and 2) from a few, initially labelled positive (good) and negative (bad) words precise sentiment values for other words can be obtained, which corresponds to the authors emotions. © 2021 IEEE.

In harsh environments such as mountainous terrain, dense vegetation areas, or urban landscapes, a single type of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) may encounter challenges like flight restrictions, difficulty in task execution, or increased risk. Therefore, employing multiple types of UAVs, along with satellite assistance, to collaborate becomes essential in such scenarios. In this context, we present a stochastic geometry based approach for modeling the heterogeneous non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) by using the classical binomial point process and introducing a novel point process, called Matérn hard-core cluster process (MHCCP). Our MHCCP possesses both the exclusivity and the clustering properties, thus it can better model the aircraft group composed of multiple clusters. Then, we derive closed-form expressions of the outage probability (OP) for the uplink (aerial-to-satellite) of heterogeneous NTNs. Unlike existing studies, our analysis relies on a more advanced system configuration, where the integration of beamforming and frequency division multiple access, and the shadowed-Rician (SR) fading model for interference power, are considered. The accuracy of our theoretical derivation is confirmed by Monte Carlo simulations. Although FKP has been recognized as a viable alternative to other biometric modalities, its adoption remains in the early stages due to its accuracy being lower than that of more competitive options. This research aims to bridge this performance gap by presenting an advancement in the classification of Finger Knuckle Prints (FKPs) using the Vision Mamba (ViM) model. The experimental study, conducted on a dataset from Hong Kong Polytechnic University containing 7,920 images from 165 individuals, evaluated the ViM model's performance against several pretrained classification models. ViM achieved an impressive accuracy of 99.1%, outperforming other models such as AlexNet (96.2%), SCNN (98.3%), and EfficientNet (98.0%), highlighting its superior capability in FKP classification. With around 7 million parameters, ViM balances complexity and performance, engineered specifically to capture fine-grained FKP features, such as texture and line patterns. Its use of weight decay mitigates overfitting, and it demonstrates resilience in occlusion scenarios by maintaining performance despite missing FKP components. Spatial attention mechanisms further enhance classification accuracy by prioritizing the most informative regions. Seventeen pretrained deep neural networks were evaluated for their effectiveness in classifying FKPs, with experimental results consistently demonstrating the superior performance of the ViM model. ViM exemplifies an advanced deep learning approach for biometric applications, combining high precision with efficient resource usage. Its versatile design – incorporating bidirectional SSMs for global context modeling and position embeddings for spatial awareness – extends its applicability to visual tasks beyond FKP identification. However, users should take its complexity and resource requirements into account for practical implementation. © 2025 The Authors

Path Planning for Multi-UAV-Assisted Mobile Edge Computing Framework Using Reinforcement Learning in Urban Environment Disaster Scenarios

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are significantly used in a various field, including disaster relief and rescue operations. The goal of path planning is to determine the shortest or most efficient route while using the least amount of energy and resources possible. In environmental disaster scenarios, multiple UAVs can be deployed in search and rescue operations to look for individuals that are trapped in the disaster areas. To address the issue of multi-UAV path planning, numerous academics have recently proposed heuristic, sampling, and machine learning-based techniques. However, deploying UAVs in dynamic environments with moving obstacles and inter-UAV interaction presents considerable problems. This paper presents the framework for path planning optimization for multi-UAV-assisted Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) network using Reinforcement Learning (RL) strategy during disaster relief operations in an urban environment. To tackle these challenges, we provide a novel multi-UAV Mobile Edge Computing architecture that uses reinforcement learning to improve Quality-of-Service and path planning. Our primary contributions include: 1) maximizing the quality of service for UAV-assisted mobile edge computing and path planning strategy in the reinforcement learning framework; 2) illustrating the computational demand of terminal users to secure higher level quality-of-service using a sigmoid-like function; 3) applying a reinforcement learning incentive matrix that incorporates synthetic considerations of the geometric distance, risk level, and demand of the terminal users to guarantee cost savings, risk avoidance, and the service quality. In this paper, the proposed framework considers the configuration of urban surroundings, including critical operational constraints, such as obstacle mobility and obstacle avoidance. In the context of autonomous driving, moving objects such as vehicles and pedestrians are of critical importance as they primarily influence the maneuvering and braking of cars. Unfortunately, due to the limited detection range of sensors, some distant and blocked objects cannot be detected, leading to slow responses when some unexpected situations occur during driving. To address this problem, a real-time motion segmentation multi-task model (RMS), running on an individual vehicle, is introduced to provide motion segmentation of moving objects within its field of view. RMS consists of a shared encoder, a multi-modal fusion module, and a dual decoder. An enhanced High Definition (HD) map constructed with the proposed RMS in line with the recommendations of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication standard is produced. Extensive experiments demonstrate how RMS outperforms existing state-of-the-art motion segmentation methods in terms of multiple metrics, including mean Intersection over Union (mIoU). Additionally, Internet of Vehicles (IoV) simulation experiments show how the time required to update the map is better than the times achieved when using other methods.

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) emerges as a promising technology for 6G, particularly in the millimeter-wave (mmWave) band. However, the widely utilized hybrid architecture in mmWave systems compromises multiplexing gain due to the constraints of limited radio-frequency (RF) chains. Moreover, additional sensing functionalities exacerbate the impairment of spectrum efficiency (SE). In this paper, we present an optimized beam pattern modulation-embedded ISAC (BPM-ISAC) transceiver design, which spares one RF chain for sensing and uses the remaining ones for communication. To compensate for the reduced SE, index modulation across communication beams is applied. We formulate an optimization problem aimed at minimizing the mean squared error (MSE) of the sensing beampattern, subject to a symbol MSE constraint. This problem is then solved by sequentially optimizing the analog and digital parts. Both the multi-aperture structure (MAS) and the multi-beam structure (MBS) are considered in the analog part. We conduct theoretical analysis on the asymptotic pairwise error probability (APEP) and the Cramér-Rao bound (CRB) of direction of arrival (DoA) estimation. Numerical simulations validate the overall enhanced ISAC performance over existing alternatives. © 2025 IEEE. All rights reserved.

Surface sampling is a powerful technique used in computer graphics and visualization to gather data from 3D surfaces. Surface sampling is a process of collecting visual and tactile information from real world surfaces to serve as references for artistic creations. It allows artists to study and analyze the intricate details of surfaces, such as the roughness of tree bark, the smoothness of a pebble, or the subtle variations in fabric patterns. By examining surfaces up close, artists gain insights into the nuances that make each surface visually and texturally distinct. The solution we've developed operates seamlessly on both desktop and mobile devices, utilizing the functionalities of widely used web browsers. It eliminates the need for any software installations. Our achievement is founded on fully open-source solutions, allowing users to explore 3D models without any barriers.
