In the recent past, Network Virtualization (NV) received much attention. Nevertheless, Virtual networks (VNs) are still not available on the market. The consortium of the COntrol and Management of COexisting networks ...

In the scientific community, Inter-Vehicle communication (IVC) protocols are frequently evaluated using simulation techniques, often using variants of WiFi stacks instead of IEEE 802.11p, which constitutes the basis for the new DSRC/WAVE standard. We discuss the necessity of using accurate WAVE models based on an extensive set of simulation experiments using: an IEEE 802.11b model, an IEEE 802.11b model tweaked to work in the same frequency range and using similar timings like IEEE 802.11p, as well as a fully featured channel hopping WAVE model. Even though, intuitively, the use of the different protocols will lead to a different network behavior, to the best of our knowledge, there has been no qualitative and quantitative evaluation or comparison of both worlds. According to our results, we can conclude that the simple WiFi model may indeed be used, but only for extremely sparse scenarios - this is exactly what has been validated using field tests. In denser traffic scenarios there is a significant deviation of the protocol behavior between WiFi (and its adapted variant) compared to WAVE. Thus, especially in dense scenarios, the application behavior is strongly influenced if simulated with the wrong model - leading to unrealistic results.

Multistage Interconnection networks (MINs) are design to provide an effective communication in switching. In optical MIN, optical signal are routed through the connecting path by electronically controlled switching element using directional coupler. Shuffle-exchange networks (SENs) have been widely considered as practical interconnection systems due to their size of it switching elements (SEs) and uncomplicated configuration. In this paper, the relationship between reliability performance and number of network size are compared in shuffle exchange network (SEN), SEN with minus one stages (SEN-) and SEN with additional stage (SEN+). There are three parameters used to measure the reliability performance on these networks which is terminal reliability, broadcast reliability and network reliability. From the results the proposed SEN- have a better reliability performance compared to SEN and SEN+.

This study uses a dipole embedded in A1203 layer to excite a symmetric surface plasmon polariton (SPP) mode in Au/A1203/Au waveguide to investigate its profile properties by using finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. The excited dipole decay radiatively direct near-field coupling to SPP mode owing to thin A1203 layer of 100 nm. The effects of electric and magnetic field intensity profiles and decay length have been considered and characterized. It is found that dipole location is an important factor to influence the horizontal and vertical profile properties of symmetric SPP mode in Au/A1203/Au waveguide. The amplitudes of electric and magnetic field intensity and the wavelengths of metal-insulatormetal (MIM) SPP resonance mode can be tuned by varying dipole location. The horizontal and vertical decay lengths are 19 and 24 nm, respectively. It is expected that the Au/A1203/Au waveguide structure is very useful for the practical applications of designing a SPP source.

Abstract: The layered decoding algorithm has been widely used in the implementation of Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) decoders, due to its high convergence speed. However, the pipeline operation of the layered decoder may introduce memory access conflicts, which heavily deteriorates the decoder throughput. To essentially deal with the issue of memory access conflicts,

The four-state continuous-variable quantum key distribution protocol has a long practical secure distance [A. Leverrier and P. Grangier, Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 180504 (2009)], while it poses the difficulty of parameter estimation. We propose an improved four-state protocol where the covariance matrix can be estimated from experimental data without using the linear channel assumption, thus ensuring its unconditional security in the asymptotical limit. Our scheme maintains the advantage of high reconciliation efficiency of the four-state protocol, which ensures long practical secure distance its. Our scheme can be implemented with the current technology.

The noise in optical source preparation needs to be characterized for the security of practical continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD). Two feasible schemes, based on either an active optical switch or a passive beamsplitter, are proposed to monitor the variance of the source noise. We derive the security bounds for both schemes against collective attacks in the asymptotical limit and find that the passive scheme performs better. The finite-size effect is also discussed briefly for both schemes.
