An accurate measuring method of loss power for RF circuit and collector for space TWT is proposed in this paper, which based on the measurement of energy distribution curve at entrance of collector. The method measures the energy distribution curve of collector inlet, the DC power of electron beam, the interception loss power, and the voltage and current of collector. By using the measured energy distribution curve of collector with 10% working ratio, the power in spent beams at entrance of collector can be obtained. Then according to the principle of energy conservation, the circuit loss and the heat loss of the collector can be calculated. A space TWT with a four-stage depressed collector is measured in this paper. Measurement results show that the circuit loss and heat loss of the collector are 1.25W and 45.16W, respectively.

Cloud computing permits a significant improvement of the computational performance due to its integration of resources. Virtualization technology has an important impact on how the resources are integrated. In cloud computing, virtualization of Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is the key technology for GPU intensive workloads such as game rendering, film production, etc. This paper proposes a strategy of the global illumination, specifically the effect of caustic of transparent geometries in virtualized framework platform. An GPU scheduling method (DGC) on different VMs was proposed to reduce the computation complexity. The feasibility of the algorithm is verified by ray tracing algorithm under OptiX frame work. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach with several simulated and fabricated examples under the virtualization framework. © 2019 IEEE.

Improving quantum thermal transistors through feedback-controlled baths

In recent years, integrating quantum feedback mechanisms into thermal machines has gained attention due to its benefits in manipulating the system states and energy flows. This is particularly advantageous for quantum thermal transistors in preserving their inherent quantum properties as they lose the purity of the system states due to decoherence and relaxation from interactions with thermal baths, within the subsystems, and monitoring. In the literature, studies have demonstrated that preserving quantum coherence can enhance the performance of quantum thermal machines, improving their efficiency. In our paper, we present a model that proposes engineering baths to be equipped with detectors and a controller to enable feedback in a quantum thermal transistor that emulates a role played by a feedback resistor in an electronic transistor. We use the framework of quantum feedback control via weak monitoring. We modify the system evolution trajectories by using a weak monitoring record from a detector. By taking the ensemble average of these trajectories, we unveil the evolution of the system density matrix that corresponds to the Markovian dynamics of the transistor. This type of feedback introduces minimal perturbation to the system and, once tuned, enhances the system coherence that would otherwise degrade due to bath interactions. Furthermore, there will be no change in the relaxation times. The probabilities of population terms remain unchanged. We treat this an enhancement in the operational characteristics of the quantum thermal transistor as it maintains its quantum features with an added benefit of improved amplification capabilities.

A digital twin goes beyond this by connecting a simulation with the physical system with the purpose of analyzing and controlling that system in real-time. In the past 5 years there has been a substantial increase in research into simulation and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The combination of simulation with AI presents many possible innovations. Similarly, combining AI with simulation presents further possibilities including approaches to developing trustworthy and explainable AI methods, solutions to problems arising from sparce or no data and better methods for time series analysis. Given the progress that has been made in Digital Twins and simulation and AI, what opportunities are there from combining these two exciting research areas? What challenges need to be overcome to achieve these? This article discusses these from the perspectives of six leading members of the Modeling & simulation community.

We present a quantum thermal diode model based on a coupled qutrit–qubit system designed to control heat flow between two thermal baths with unprecedented efficiency. This differs from previous models in terms of the asymmetry introduced by spin particles and their interaction. By exploiting the interactions between degenerate states within the coupled qutrit–qubit system, our model demonstrates diode-like behavior that is both robust and energy-efficient. Utilizing the frameworks of open quantum systems and the quantum Markovian master equation, with the Born and rotating wave approximations, we comprehensively analyze the system’s behavior. Numerical simulations reveal significant thermal rectification across a wide temperature range, positioning our model as a groundbreaking solution for nanoscale heat management. In addition, we employ state transition diagrams to elucidate the transition rate characteristics that underpin the diode behavior. Finally, we explore the potential for physical implementation using superconducting circuits, highlighting the practical relevance of our design.

Hyperspectral image (HSI) plays a vital role in various fields such as agriculture and environmental monitoring. However, due to the expensive acquisition cost, the number of hyperspectral images is limited, degenerating the performance of downstream tasks. Although some recent studies have attempted to employ diffusion models to synthesize HSIs, they still struggle with the scarcity of HSIs, affecting the reliability and diversity of the generated images. Some studies propose to incorporate multi-modal data to enhance spatial diversity, but spectral fidelity cannot be ensured. In addition, existing HSI synthesis models are typically uncontrollable or only support single-condition control, limiting their ability to generate accurate and reliable HSIs. To alleviate these issues, we propose HSIGene, a novel HSI generation foundation model which is based on latent diffusion and supports multi-condition control, allowing for more precise and reliable HSI generation. To enhance the spatial diversity of the training data while preserving spectral fidelity, we propose a new data augmentation method based on spatial super-resolution, in which HSIs are upscaled first, and thus abundant training patches could be obtained by cropping the high-resolution HSIs. In addition, to improve the perceptual quality of the augmented data, we introduce a novel two-stage HSI super-resolution framework, which first applies RGB bands super-resolution and then utilizes our proposed Rectangular Guided Attention Network (RGAN) for guided HSI super-resolution. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed model is capable of generating a vast quantity of realistic HSIs for downstream tasks such as denoising and super-resolution. α-MgAgSb based thermoelectric(TE)device attracts much attention for its commercial application because it shows an extremely high conversion efficiency of ~8.5% under a temperature difference of 225 ***,the mechanical behavior of α-MgAgSb is another serious consideration for its engineering ***,we apply density functional theory(DFT)simulations to examine the intrinsic mechanical properties of all three MgAgSb phases,including elastic properties,shear-stress-shear-strain relationships,deformation and failure mechanism under ideal shear and biaxial shear *** find that the ideal shear strength of α-MgAgSb is 3.25 GPa along the most plausible(100)<010>slip *** strength is higher than that of β-MgAgSb(0.80 GPa)and lower than that of γ-MgAgSb(3.43 GPa).The failure of α-MgAgSb arises from the stretching and breakage of MgeSb bond α-MgAgSb under pure shear load,while it arises from the softening of MgeAg bond and the breakage of AgeSb bond under biaxial shear *** suggests that the deformation mechanism changes significantly under different loading conditions.

Early Detection of Invasive Phragmites Australis at the Tidal Marsh-Forest Ecotone with Airborne Lidar

Wetlands across North America are invaded by an introduced lineage of the common reed Phragmites australis, and sea level rise has exacerbated the spread of this species. P. australis at tidal marsh-forest ecotones has rapidly been expanding into deteriorating forest, colonizing understory environments ahead of native marsh species. Early detection of P. australis at the ecotone will be critical to the management of this invasive species in coming decades. In this study, we develop and validate a new method for early detection of P. australis, using open access airborne LiDAR data that can uniquely penetrate the tree canopy and detect P. australis within the forest understory. The method was designed for areas of sparse to moderate tree cover, such as the forest edge where trees are dying and P. australis is expanding, where understory species mapping was previously impossible with most spectral data. To differentiate P. australis from shrubs and other understory herbaceous plants, we tested the effectiveness of several LiDAR-derived spatial metrics, including Mean distance, Point density, Scatter, Omnivariance, and Eigentropy, as inputs to a Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier, followed by a smoothing algorithm to avoid occasional obstacles or disturbances. We compare among metrics and single- vs. multiple- metric-based classifications. The resulting best early detection method of P. australis achieved a classification accuracy of 91.48% at the development site, and between 56.16% and 80.65% accuracy at other test sites. This algorithm provides a cost-effective and high accuracy method of detecting understory P. australis using public airborne LiDAR data. Larger-scale application of this method will provide coastal resource managers and policy-makers with distribution maps of P. australis through time in open environments and the forest understory.
