First-principles calculation on electron transport properties of Ca-Si

This work we evaluated the electronic structure and electron transport properties of CaSi, Ca 2 Si, CaSi 2 , and Ca 5 Si 3 by using Quantum ESPRESSO and BoltzTraP. Our calculated appear high power factor 213 µW m –1 K –2 at hole concentration 1.54×10 22 cm –3 for CaSi, 959 µW m –1 K –2 at electron concentration 4.19×10 20 cm –3 for CaSi 2 , at 1200 K. In addition, Ca 5 Si 3 exhibit high power factor 715 µW m –1 K –2 at electron concentration 3.79×10 21 cm –3 at 700 K. The power factor of CaSi 2 and Ca 5 Si 3 are strong candidate for thermoelectric material. © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Selection and/or Peer-review under responsibility of SACT 2016.

In this work, we evaluated the electronic structure and Seebeck coefficient ( S ) of Mg 2 Si by molecular orbital calculation. The energy level, density of state, electron contour map, Fermi energy and S were analyzed. The electronic structure show that, the energy gap = 0.68 eV, and the highest of density of state at 22.4 eV. The electron contour map exhibits the highest density of Si atom at HOMO and LUMO. The S exhibits negative value which indicated that n -type thermoelectric material. This calculated imply that the S has dependent on Fermi energy which is decreased with increasing temperature.

More and more research works have indicated that microRNAs (miRNAs) play indispensable roles in exploring the pathogenesis of diseases. Detecting miRNA-disease associations by experimental techniques in biology is expensive and time-consuming. Hence, it is important to propose reliable and accurate computational methods to exploring potential miRNAs related diseases. In our work, we develop a novel method (BRWHNHA) to uncover potential miRNAs associated with diseases based on hybrid recommendation algorithm and unbalanced bi-random walk. We first integrate the Gaussian interaction profile kernel similarity into the miRNA functional similarity network and the disease semantic similarity network. Then we calculate the transition probability matrix of bipartite network by using hybrid recommendation algorithm. Finally, we adopt unbalanced bi-random walk on the heterogeneous network to infer undiscovered miRNA-disease relationships. We tested BRWHNHA on 22 diseases based on five-fold cross-validation and achieves reliable performance with average AUC of 0.857, which an area under the ROC curve ranging from 0.807 to 0.924. As a result, BRWHNHA significantly improves the performance of inferring potential miRNA-disease association compared with previous methods. Moreover, the case studies on lung neoplasms and prostate neoplasms also illustrate that BRWHNHA is superior to previous prediction methods and is more advantageous in exploring potential miRNAs related diseases. In this paper, a dynamic droop mechanism is proposed to damp the synchronizing oscillation that exists in a virtual synchronous generator based distributed generator system without varying the steady-state active-power-loop droop coefficient. In order to eliminate the steady-state error introduced due to load changes or generator trips, a distributed secondary controller based on extremum seeking is employed so that microgrid frequency can be restored to nominal value. Besides, the small-signal model of virtual synchronous generator system is presented under d-q reference frame where virtual synchronous generator is deployed as a PV node. Moreover, the linearized system model of virtual synchronous generator with dynamic droop mechanism is derived and its advantage is discussed. Finally, a modified IEEE 14 bus microgrid system is established in Matlab/Simulink platform. simulation results demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the proposed method. © 2017 IEEE.

KAGRA, the underground and cryogenic gravitational-wave detector, was operated for its solo observation from February 25 to March 10, 2020, and its first joint observation with the GEO 600 detector from April 7 to April 21, 2020 (O3GK). This study presents an overview of the input optics systems of the KAGRA detector, which consist of various optical systems, such as a laser source, its intensity and frequency stabilization systems, modulators, a Faraday isolator, mode-matching telescopes, and a high-power beam dump. These optics were successfully delivered to the KAGRA interferometer and operated stably during the observations. The laser frequency noise was observed to limit the detector sensitivity above a few kilohertz, whereas the laser intensity did not significantly limit the detector sensitivity.

Throughout its history, Operational Research has evolved to include a variety of methods, models and algorithms that have been applied to a diverse and wide range of contexts. This encyclopedic article consists of two main sections: methods and applications. The first aims to summarise the up-to-date knowledge and provide an overview of the state-of-the-art methods and key developments in the various subdomains of the field. The second offers a wide-ranging list of areas where Operational Research has been applied. The article is meant to be read in a nonlinear fashion. It should be used as a point of reference or first-port-of-call for a diverse pool of readers: academics, researchers, students, and practitioners. The entries within the methods and applications sections are presented in alphabetical order. The authors dedicate this paper to the 2023 Turkey/Syria earthquake victims. The decision of stem cells to leave the self-renewing state and select a differentiation pathway is regulated by a number of transcription factors (TFs). In this work, we employed a mathematical model to study the embryonic stem cell differentiation to primitive streak. Specifically, using experimental data reported in literatures, we constructed a gene regulatory network (GRN) of TFs regulating the primitive streak commitment. The GRN consisted of three main TFs: OCT4, SOX2, and NANOG interacting with Eomesodermin (EOMES), which was the key TF controlling the formation of primitive streak. The mathematical model was derived using kinetics of gene regulation in the form of system of ordinary differential equations. The results of simulations demonstrated that the model was capable of predicting the stem cell's decision.

Germanium is an indirect semiconductor which attracts particular interest as an electronics and photonics material due to low indirect-to-direct band separation. In this work we bend the bands of Ge by means of biaxial tensile strain in order to achieve a direct band gap. Strain is applied by growth of Ge on a lattice mismatched InGaAs buffer layer with variable In content. Band structure is studied by photoluminescence and photoreflectance, giving the indirect and direct bands of the material. Obtained experimental energy band values are compared with a k·p simulation. Photoreflectance spectra are also simulated and compared with the experiment. The obtained results indicate direct band structure obtained for a Ge sample with 1.94% strain applied, with preferable Γ valley to heavy hole transition.

Update summarization can be a daunting task in automatic text summarization. It aims to distill evolved messages from a collection of new articles, under the assumption that the reader has already browsed the previous articles. In this paper, a number of state-of-the-art approaches were reviewed for extracting update summarization and then a method called DPC-TS was proposed. This approach is derived from the DPC-based multi-documents summarization method, which was developed in 2015. In our study, a model was established by using the topic signature algorithm, to evaluate the novelty of sentences in update documents set. In addition, the scheme of calculating similarities between sentences and sentence selection approach was improved to ensure there are diversity topics in the summary. DPC-TS update documents summarization method is a simple and effective approach, which can be reproduced and deployed in real environment. © 2016 IEEE.

It optimizes existing and enables new research methods, implements and embeds research knowledge, and constitutes an essential research product in itself. Research software must be sustainable in order to understand, replicate, reproduce, and build upon existing research or conduct new research effectively. In other words, software must be available, discoverable, usable, and adaptable to new needs, both now and in the future. Research software therefore requires an environment that supports sustainability. Hence, a change is needed in the way research software development and maintenance are currently motivated, incentivized, funded, structurally and infrastructurally supported, and legally treated. Failing to do so will threaten the quality and validity of research. In this paper, we identify challenges for research software sustainability in Germany and beyond, in terms of motivation, selection, research software engineering personnel, funding, infrastructure, and legal aspects. Besides researchers, we specifically address political and academic decision-makers to increase awareness of the importance and needs of sustainable research software practices. In particular, we recommend strategies and measures to create an environment for sustainable research software, with the ultimate goal to ensure that software-driven research is valid, reproducible and sustainable, and that software is recognized as a first class citizen in research.
