As the market size of mobile products is enlarged, low power and high density design in integrated chips are demanding. To meet these market demands, "ultra high density" (UHD) standard cell library becomes essential to further reduce the chip size. Furthermore, to enhance the density of standard cell library especially at 90nm and below, the conventional methods of reducing cell height is not sufficient to meet the density constraints. Motivated by the fact, in this paper, we devise a flexible design technique of UHD library with the multi-height cell structure. Each cell of conventional standard cell libraries with one-layer metal routing has the same cell height. However, multi-height cell library with two-layer metal routing has two types of cell structure: 1) Simple cells (e.g. inverter, nand, nor, etc.) are structured with single height;2) Complex cells (e.g. flip-flop, latch, mux, etc.) are structured with double height. In this double height cell structure, Metal2 layer is used for power line. Therefore, Metall and G-ploy are routed vertically, gaining more Metall routing space, and thus we can attain more effective design for manufacturability (DFM). Also, by doing so, design time is reduced while achieving better layout efficiency. We tested logic circuits with 700,000 gates using 90nm technology to compare our new UHD library with existing high density library. Our experimental results show that each of 26 cells (frequently used) is shrunk by 14.29 ∼ 26.98%. Furthermore, chip size is shrunk by 13.90 ∼ 15.65% compared with high density library. © 2008 SPIE.

Saving energy without causing discomfort and without de-manding human intervention is the need of the day. The rich information available in hyperspectral imagery has posed significant opportunities for material classification and identification. The main problem encountered with the classification process is the high dimensionality of hyperspectral data and the low-sized training dataset. Hence, dimensionality reduction is often adopted to avoid the "curse of dimensionality" phenomenon. However, noise generated by various sources (primarily the sensor and the atmosphere) inevitably decrease the precision of the classifier. In this paper, two wavelet-based methods, wavelet shrinkage and discrete wavelet transform, are applied to preprocess the hyperspectral imagery in sequence, denoising the spatial images and spectral signatures, respectively. After that, affinity propagation, which is a recently proposed feature selection approach, is used to choose representative features from the noise-reduced data. Experimental results demonstrate that the features acquired by the new scheme make the classification results more accurate than those without noise reduction preprocessing. ©2010 IEEE.

PHALANX Integrated Maintenance system - The future in electronic maintenance today

Raley is an Electronics Engineer in the Computer Resource Branch of the Integrated Ship Defense Directorate at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division in Louisville Kentucky. He is responsible for design development and fleet support of PHALANX weapon system software. In addition he is a member of the PHALANX Integrated Maintenance System (PIMS) development team which directs the design and development of an interactive electronic technical manual and integrated maintenance system. Mr. Raley received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School.

The primary goal of PIMS is to improve the PHALANX Weapon system's availability and to reduce mean time to repair. PIMS accomplishes this by integrating ail maintenance activities into a seamless maintenance environment. PIMS combines the Integrated Diagnostic system, automated preventative maintenance procedures, electronic technical manual, and supply support database information in a Windows environment. In doing so, access to all maintenance documentation has been improved along with the integrity of the information contained in the manuals. PIMS also provides the technician another new and unique option in performing maintenance. By providing a ruggedized, portable computer, mobile access to all PIMS functions is now possible above deck at the weapon system. PIMS accomplishes the Navy's initiative for a paperless ship and in doing so helps to reduce the weight on board. PIMS also reduces the cost of providing documentation for an installation and reduces the time needed to incorporate a change to the technical manuals. Once PIMS is installed, all these benefits will be evident and will lead to an immediate reduction in maintenance time.

A Type-2 Fuzzy logic controller adapted with genetic algorithm, called type-2 genetic fuzzy logic controller (T2GFLC), is presented in this paper to handle uncertainty with dynamic optimal learning. Genetic algorithm is employed to simultaneous design of type-2 membership functions and rule sets for type-2 fuzzy logic controllers. Traditional fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs), often termed as type-1 fuzzy logic systems using type-1 fuzzy sets, cannot handle large amount of uncertainties present in many real environments. Therefore, recently type-2 FLC has been proposed. The type-2 FLC can be considered as a collection of different embedded type-1 FLCs. However, the current design process of type-2 FLC is not automatic and relies on human experts. The purpose of our study is to make the design process automatic. The evolved type-2 FLCs can deal with large amount of uncertainties and exhibit better performance for the mobile robot. Furthermore, it has outperformed their type-1 counterparts as well as the traditionally designed type-2 FLCs. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper theoretically studies the axisymmetric frictionless indentation of a transversely isotropic piezoelectric semiconductor(PSC)half-space subject to a rigid flatended cylindrical *** contact area and other surface of the PSC half-space are assumed to be electrically *** the Hankel integral transformation,the problem is reduced to the Fredholm integral equation of the second *** equation is solved numerically to obtain the indentation behaviors of the PSC half-space,mainly including the indentation force-depth relation and the electric potential-depth *** results show that the effect of the semiconductor property on the indentation responses is limited within a certain range of variation of the steady carrier *** dependence of indentation behavior on material properties is also analyzed by two different kinds of *** element simulations are conducted to verify the results calculated by the integral equation technique,and good agreement is demonstrated.

In this paper, we propose a new generalized design methodology of intelligent robust fuzzy control systems based on quantum genetic algorithm (QGA) called quantum fuzzy model that enhance robustness of fuzzy logic controllers. The QGA is adopted because of their capabilities of directed random search for global optimization to find the parameters of the shape and width of membership functions and rule set of the FLC to obtain the optimal fuzzy controller simultaneously. We test the optimal FLC obtained by the quantum computing applied on the control of dynamic balance and motion of cart-pole balancing system. We compare the proposed technique with existing mamdani fuzzy logic controller which is designed through conventional genetic algorithm. Simulation results reveal that QGA performs better than conventional GA in terms of running speed and optimizing capability. © 2011 IEEE.

The output resistance (Rout) most important device parameters for analog applications. However, it has been difficult to model Rout correctly. In this paper, we present a physical and accurate output resistance model that can be applied to both long-channel and submicrometer MOSFETs. Major short channel effects and hot-carrier effect, such as channel-length modulation (CLM), drain-induced-barrier-lowering (DIBL) and substrate current induced output resistance reduction, are all included in this model, and it is scalable with respect to different channel length L, gate oxide thickness Tox and power supply Vdd. This model can be incorporated into existing MOSFET's model without introducing discontinuity. © 1992 IEEE.

An in vitro stretch-injury model for elongation-controlled neuronal cells: Effect of strains along neurite 15

Diffuse axonal injury (DAI), a major component of traumatic brain injury, is associated with rapid deformation of brain tissue resulting in the stretching of neural axons. Focal axonal beading, which is the morphological hallmarks of DAI pathology, leads to the disconnection of neurons from tissues, resulting in cell death. Our goal is better understanding of neuronal tolerance and help to predicting the pathogenesis of DAI from mechanical loading to the head. In present study, we developed a stretch-injury model that subjected cultured neuronal cells in which the directions of neurite elongation were controlled with microfluidic culture technique to uniaxial stretch and examined the effect of strains along neurite on the cell damage. Neurites from PC 12 cells were extended at 0, 45 and 90 degrees to stretch direction using a fabricated poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) piece having microgrooves in combination with PDMS substrate. Following stretch with a strain of 0.22 and a strain rate of 27 s-1, the morphology of same neurites were observed at 5 min–24 h. As a result, the beading along neurites oriented at 0 degree increased immediately following stretch and the increase was sustained until 24 h, although the beading along neurites oriented at 45 and 90 degrees transiently increased within 1 h following stretch. Many rupture of neurites was observed more in neurites oriented at 0 and 90 degrees than in neurites oriented at 45 degrees, however, the retraction and disappearance of neurites did not differ in any orientation conditions. These results suggest that the difference in strain along neurite induces different types and degrees of neurite damage and not strain of cellcultured substrate but strain loaded to neurite is important to evaluation of neuronal injury. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

A new point-to-point cascade bus architecture and pseudo-differential current signaling present, which is called WiseBus™. The proposed transmitter using capacitive coupling error cancellation and fast cut-off scheme compensates an inherent charge error and duty error of output current. The receiver makes high common noise rejection between reference and data using perfectly matched gain-enhanced regulated cascode buffer. The advantage of proposed interface is very low power consumption and low EMI using small current signal(±100μA) and small signal loop area, and it is suitable for large size LCD TV due to point-to-point cascade bus configuration.
