It has been acknowledged that dominance resistant solutions (DRSs) often exist in the feasible region of multi-objective optimization problems. DRSs can severely degrade the performance of many multi-objective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs). In previous work, some coping strategies (e.g., the ϵ -dominance and the modified objective calculation) have been demonstrated to be effective in eliminating DRSs. However, these strategies may in turn cause algorithm inefficiency in other aspects. We argue that these coping strategies prevent the algorithm from obtaining extremely convex Pareto optimal solutions (ECPOSs), which are located around the boundary of the convex Pareto front (PF). That is, there is a dilemma between eliminating DRSs and preserving ECPOSs. To illustrate such a dilemma, we propose a new multi-objective optimization test problem with the extremely convex PF as well as the hardly dominated boundaries. Using this test problem, we investigate the performance of six representative MOEAs in terms of ECPOS preservation and DRS elimination. The results indicate that it is indeed challenging to distinguish between ECPOSs and DRSs. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ECG acquisition and monitoring system has important significance in the diagnosis of cardiovascular disease and the maintenance of health. This article thoroughly and systematically introduces the design of A low power portable ECG monitoring system. The system functions include ECG acquisition, signal conditioning, digital filtering, dynamic electrocardiogram display, data local storage and remote transmission, etc. The ECG acquisition unit uses ADI ECG monitor to simulate the front-end AD8232, the main control unit adopts 16-bit low-power MSP430F5529 MCU of Texas Instrument, the display unit can realize local LCD display and Android client displays, and the data transmission unit can achieve accessing to the Internet via UART to WIFI converter and the remote data transmission. The portable ECG monitoring system is of great value, which can be put into use only with a little package. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper is concerned with the requirements of current distance learning of circuit principle experiment of automation specialty, automatic fault detection of experimental equipment, automatic fault isolation, uninterrupted experiment in case of fault, and maintaining the number of available equipment. Specifically, based on the networked control system laboratory (NCSLab) architecture, digital twin, remote control technology and circuit design, aiming at the circuit experiment principle course, the digital twin are realized by Simulink, and a digital twin circuit principle experiment system(DT-CPES) is designed and implemented. The designed system shows that the system can realize the sharing of experimental equipment, the digital twin can predict, and can also verify with the actual measurement data of the circuit experiment. Through the digital twin fault isolation controller(DT-FIC), the fault diagnosis, fault isolation and replacement output of the experimental equipment can be realized. Therefore, the developed system reduces the overall risk and cost of installation and maintenance of large-scale circuit experiments, and provides fault-tolerant redundancy for the experimental system with low computational burden and high reliability. © 2023 Technical Committee on Control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

For measuring the rotation engine vibration signals, the mechanical or acoustical sensors are dif-ficult to get the clean signals from the heavy background noise of the machinery environment. The noise reduction algorithm may anticipate to decrease the background noise without disturbing the unpolluted signal. The spectral subtraction methods for noise attenuation case are reached for many years due to its simple and effectively. In this paper, the proposed algorithm incorporates the multiscale spectral subtraction method (MSS) with voice activity detector (VAD) and sup-ports vector machine (SVM) for removing the background noise, since SVM can be required for distinguishing a multivariate signal into separated subcomponents. From the analysis case for the rotating machinery, MSS shows that the low frequency with their harmonics frequencies can be tracked through the clustering of the data from SVM. The present method is helpful in background noise and signal compartmentalization as its application can significantly lower the requirement for labelled training cases in both the inductive noise and wanted signals.

Background: In recent years, the population structure in Taiwan has changed so dramatically. Based on concerns of social welfare issues, Taiwanese government began to seek principles for assessment of disability. After seven years of carefully evaluation, the World Health Organization’s International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (Abbreviated to ICF) is officially adopted as Taiwan’s assessment standard while most of the assessment procedures of ICF are sophisticated, and time consuming. In this paper, we propose a sensor based decision supporting system for ICF. Our prototype system aims to reduce the burden of medical staffs, and to assist subjects to perform the assessments. Methods: This paper integrate multiple devices including ASUS XtionTM, temperature/acceleration/gyro sensors on Arduino, and Zigbee to measure the mobility of limbs and joints. The subject’s log of assessments is then recorded in the database so that the medical staffs can remote-monitor the co ndition of subjects immediately, and analyze the results later. Additionally, in our system, a user-friendly interface is implemented for the detection of dementia. Results: In this paper, three experiments have been conducted for different purpose. The experiment was conducted to compare the variation between thermometer and our device. Moreover, we invited 20 elders aged for 65 to 80 to use our system and all of them gave positive feedback. Two elders were invited to perform full assessment for dementia and the results show that both of them didn’t have sign of dementia. Also, the assessment of joint movement was performed by a 67 year-old elder and the result shows that the elder had well physical function and could take care of daily life. Conclusions: The proposed system has potential for aiding users to perform the ICF testing better and provide benefits to medical staffs and society. computer-managed instruction (CMI) has been used in nursing education since the late 1960s. It is because of its accessibility and self-paced format that CMI is very well suited both to students and practising nurses, as learning can take place at the learner's own pace and in his or her own time. In addition CMI also supports continuing education and distant learning. The aim of this paper is to present CArE - a software package for computer Aided Nurse Education and in particular, for teaching the basics of the nursing care process. This package has been developed as a result of the Phare TEMPUS project called NICE (Nursing Informatics and computer Aided Education) [14] [15].

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), trap coverage has recently been proposed to tradeoff between the availability of sensor nodes and sensing performance. It offers an efficient framework to tackle the challenge of limited resources in large scale sensor networks. Currently, existing works only studied the theoretical foundation of how to decide the deployment density of sensors to ensure the desired degree of trap coverage. However, the practical issues such as how to efficiently schedule sensor node to guarantee trap coverage under an arbitrary deployment is still left untouched. In this paper, we formally formulate the Minimum Weight Trap Cover Problem and prove it is an NP-hard problem. To solve the problem, we introduce a bounded approximation algorithm, called Trap Cover Optimization (TCO) to schedule the activation of sensors while satisfying specified trap coverage requirement. The performance of MinimumWeight Trap Coverage we find is proved to be at most O(ρ) times of the optimal solution, where ρ is the density of sensor nodes in the region. To evaluate our design, we perform extensive simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm and show that our algorithm achieves at least 14% better energy efficiency than the state-of-the-art solution. © 2011 IEEE.

The prediction of solar storms from real-time satellites data is an essential to protect various aviation, power, and communication infrastructures. For this reason, current research interest is focusing on creating systems that can predict solar fare accurately. This paper combers Gramian Angular Fields (GAF) images and Markov Transition Field (MTF) images that have been generated by converting pre-flare Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) data from 2010 to 2016. After that, the deep learning neural network for the solar flare production platform accepts both MTF and GAF images as input to generate the predictions. Furthermore, this paper;investigated using MTF and GAF images spritely as input to the solar flare production platform. After that, the results of MTF and GAF images were compared using various prediction verification measures. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper presents the results of an ongoing experimental "designeer" programme of teaching end-user product design to undergraduate engineering students using a hybrid approach of traditional industrial design coupled with product engineering. The programme’s objectives are: 1) prepare engineering students to create credible product designs when no industrial designer is available, and 2) instil understanding and appreciation of the discipline of product design to work collaboratively with industrial designers. Topics and skills are provided in these programmes that are not ordinarily taught to undergraduate engineers, e.g., manual perspective sketching and aesthetic product form design. In teaching such unique content, a number of cognitive, perceptual, skill and application deficiencies in engineering design education were discovered. Herein described are the applied remedies, the improved methods developed, and the results that are an educational success. The improved methods are: 1) a Y-system approach using multiple support tools for realistic manual perspective sketching, and 2) a combination of manual orthographic sketching and computer aided design (CAD) for aesthetic product form development. © 2018 Institution of engineering designers The design Society. Since electronic tolling collection (ETC) allows vehicles passing through without slowing down which improves greatly transportation efficiency, it is chosen as the basic technology for new national highway network construction. The key component of the ETC system is a 5.8 GHz RF transceiver that enables wireless communication between toll booth and vehicles. A 1-V Gm-C sixth order band pass filter is designed in a 0.18 mm CMOS process for this purpose. Based on a pseudo differential operational transconductance amplifier (OTA), a wide tuning range and large input voltage swing is achieved. A common-mode feed forward (CMFF) circuit is introduced to reduce the distortion caused by common mode signal. The filter is implemented as a cascade of three identical second-order blocks. The power consumption is about 456 μW. © 2010 IEEE.
