In recent years, there are some studies that report the method to levitate and manipulate a particle using ultrasonic waves. In the conventional acoustic levitation method using the compact acoustic delay-lines device, however, it was so difficult to pick up a particle located on the stage. Screws are widely used in various types of manufactured product. For screw-tightening, the pushing force and rotary torque are required. However, usually only the rotary torque is controlled in order to control the screw-tightening process and the pushing direction is important. If the pushing force becomes small, the driver-head separates from a screw. On the other hand, if the pushing force becomes large, the friction also becomes large and increase of the pushing force is needed. Therefore, the pushing force has relationship to the rotary torque. This paper focuses on the pushing direction and the aim of the research is the fast screw-tightening. This paper shows the modified screw-tightening model. Moreover, the pushing positon is controlled based on the rotary angle to reduce the reaction force for the fast screw-tightening. The availability of proposed method is verified by the simulation and experiment.

The paper summarizes the current design trends of micro-architectures and analyzes the tradeoffs between the RISC approach and the microprogramming approach especially on vertical migration among hardware, firmware, compilation, and software. RISCs simplicity is contrasted by the regularity of microprogrammed control. The RISC design incentives are categorized into three perspectives, namely, technology-driven, application-driven, and performance-driven. Traditional firmware migration approaches are reviewed and related to the RISC design philosophy as well as, the writable instruction set computer (WISC) concept. We had introduced video caching techniques in the Radio Access Network (RAN) in [1] as a way to reduce the need to bring requested videos from Internet CDNs, thus reducing overall backhaul traffic, improving video quality of experience and increasing network capacity to support more simultaneous video requests. In this paper, we investigate supplementing the resulting wireless cloud with a hierarchical caching scheme, where the gateways in the Core Network (CN) also have video caches. The hierarchical caching approach further improves network capacity by enabling multiple cell sites to share caches at higher levels of the hierarchy, thereby improving overall cache hit ratio, without increasing the total cache size used. In addition, we exploit hierarchical caching to better accommodate mobility, so that when a user with an active video session moves from one cell to a neighboring cell, it is likely that the video currently being downloaded is already in a cache within the RAN or CN network associated with the new cell. To achieve the goal of improving capacity and supporting mobility, we extend our User Preference Profile (UPP) based caching policies [1] to accommodate the hierarchical caching structure introduced in this paper. For all the videos that miss the cache in any layer of hierarchy, we propose a scheduling approach to allocate RAN and CN backhaul resources judiciously so as to maximize the capacity of the wireless network. We extend our discrete event statistical simulation framework developed in [1] to study the performance of the proposed hierarchical caching approach. Our simulation results show that using hierarchical caching can enhance cache hit ratio by 24% and network capacity by up to 45% compared to caching only in the RAN. Significant capacity gains are also observed when additionally considering user mobility.

The vision of smart grids lie in large scale, distributed electrical power systems, equipped with communication and information technologies for automated and sustainable electricity production and distribution. Smart grids require communication with individual energy consumers for enabling energy providers to create a control-feedback loop using time-dependent pricing. Emerging broadband wireless networks hold the key in providing this efficient communication between energy consumers and smart power grids. In this paper we first propose the use of LTE multicast between the aggregator and energy consumers for efficient demand-response management in smart grids. We formulate the multicast scheduling and resource allocation problem for optimal SG-DR programs and provide a greedy solution. Performance analysis and OMNET++ simulation results, using data from Korean power corporation, demonstrate that our proposed LTE multicast and MBSFN solutions are capable of providing low latency (≤ 40ms) and packet drop (≤ 6%), thus resulting in almost 25% shift in peak energy load and up to 30% reduction in energy production cost.

Data mining and knowledge discovery systems can be used to extract useful information/knowledge in order to to improve future diagnoses and reduce costs. On the other hand, when analysing data, the most recent methods, that extract the most accurate knowledge and decision models, should be used. This can be established with a service enabling quick access to newly developed methods. In this paper, a service for doing this, named IFSIMS (Internet Framework Service for Intelligent Medical systems), is presented.
