This article describes the bond length distribution of the Ga1-xlnx Ny As1-y quaternary alloy which has attracted much attention in recent years for its potential use in fabricating long wavelength optoelectronic devices,and propose a statistical model,which calculates the average bond lengths in as-grown and fully annealed Ga1-xlnx Ny As1-y alloys when constituent proportion is an integer and x:y≥*** we calculate the statistical bond distributions of a definite super cell,and then generalize the formulas of the average lengths after extracting the distributing probabilities of the N–centered nearest-neighbor clusters with a 2σ =1 Gaussian distribution based on the former *** the optimized bond lengths of Ga28ln4N1As31 super cells under different nearest-neighbor environments are obtained using DMol3 module in Material Studio based on the first principle,and the average bond lengths and strain are *** find that the local strain,the total strain and total binding energy of the system will decrease after annealing,which is in good agreement with the previous researches.

The smart grid allows its consumers to participate in producing cost effective, sustainable, and environmentally friendly electricity. The consumers in a smart grid, for example, can plug their Electric Vehicles (EVs) into the grid to charge and discharge their vehicles' batteries. However, charging of the electric vehicles, especially during the peak periods, can adversely impact the grid performance. Thus, in this paper, the coordinated charging of the electric vehicles problem is tackled. A fuzzy logic-based approach is developed to coordinate the electric vehicle charging such that the system minimum voltage is within the allowable limits. The inputs to the Fuzzy Charging Controller (FCC) include the States of Charge (SOC) of the electric vehicles, the grid parameters represented in the system minimum voltage, and the hourly energy price. The output of the FCC is the charging levels of the electric vehicles' batteries. The developed fuzzy logic-based charging strategy was validated on the 69-bus test system. The Fuzzy Charging (FC) was compared with three modes of uncoordinated charging, namely Slow Charging (SC), Medium Charging (MC), and Fast Charging (FC). The results of the comparative study prove the superiority of the developed fuzzy charging approach over uncoordinated charging schemes.

The paper presents a finite element (FE) based efficient analysis procedure for induction machine (IM). The study based on finite element models (FEM) offers much more information on the phenomena characterizing the operation of electrical machines than the classical analytical models. This explains the increase of the interest for the finite element investigations in electrical machines. This paper attempts to present a dynamic model involving Finite Element Analysis and equivalent circuit simulation together for PWM inverter fed induction motor assisted based on Maxwell 2D and Simplorer. The nonlinear magnetization characteristics have been considered and calculated by FE software Maxwell. The circuits of the inverter are built by using the circuit components in Simplorer environnement. Based on finite element models, this paper studies the influence of the rotor broken bar fault on the IM behavior under various conditions and severity. The comparison of the results obtained by simulation tests allowed verifying the precision of the proposed FEM model. Using the simulated model, this paper presents a technical method based on Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis of stator current and electromagnetic torque to detect the faults of broken rotor bar. The technique used and the obtained results show clearly the possibility of extracting signatures to detect and locate faults.

As science and technology continue to progress, we are getting used to utilize these new information technologies for the convenience of our daily lives. For example, Google Map and Open Street Map have become very popular and important tools for viewing street maps in recent years. For the purpose of map navigations, the research field of Route Recommendation has proposed several convenient and useful tools. However, most of these results are provided on a 2D planar map. For users, it is un intuitive and difficult to imagine realistic 3D scenes by only watching these linked line segments on a 2D map. Moreover, although many online maps provide photorealistic street views, these images are usually too complicated and containing too much unnecessary information. More important, these pictures are also fixed and invariant regardless of the changes of weathers and seasons. Therefore, in this research, we propose a novel navigation system which visualizes the results of route recommendation with NPR animation effects. Furthermore, by combining NonPhotorealistic Rendering techniques with the OpenWeatherMap, our system aims to create more interesting scenery with the real-time weather effects to improve users' navigation experience.

This paper presents stochastic energy management system (S-EMS) in hybrid ac/dc smart grids. The developed S-EMS coordinates the operations of various distributed resources (DRs), i.e., distributed generators (DGs) and energy storage systems (ESSs). It also ensures coordinated charging of the plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs). The energy management problem is formulated as a two-stage day-ahead resource scheduling problem with both the intermittent supply and the variable PEV demand modeled as random variables. The first-stage determines the unit commitment (UC) decisions for the next 24 hours, while the second-stage determines the corrective decisions, which include the import/export schedule, the storage charging/discharging cycles, and the PEV charging patterns for a set of possible scenarios. The objective is to minimize the expected total operating cost while satisfying the operational and technical constraints. The developed centralized two-stage stochastic EMS model is tested on a 38-bus hybrid ac/dc distribution system. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed EMS model to optimally coordinate the various components of the future hybrid ac/dc smart grid.

Conventional methods for storing and reproducing task are based on only the information of the actuators in the robot. However, in these methods, reproducing the stored task is difficult when the environment differs from that in storing phase. This is because these methods consider a meaningful task as just a motion. In this paper, to reproduce a stored task even if the environment differs from that in storing phase, storage and reproduction of a task based on the controlled variable of a task is proposed. To verify the principle of this proposal, the water pouring task is considered. The proposed method can reproduce the water pouring task even if the initial weight of the water in the bottle differs from that in storing phase. The validity of the proposal is confirmed by experiments using one degree-of-freedom robots.

This paper proposes a walking route recommendation system aiming at continuously supporting a user to take a walk as means for health promotion. In recent years, taking a walk becomes popular with not only the elderly, but also those from all ages as one of the easiest ways for health promotion. The proposed system supports users to take a walk as daily exercise by recommending a walking route that can consume target calories. When it is going to be used for long period of time, it should consider the case when a user will not follow the recommended route. We think it will often happen when a user gradually gets bored with taking a walk during a long period of time. In order to solve the problem, the proposed method implicitly manages calories on monthly basis and recommends walking routes that could keep a user from getting bored. The Effectiveness of the recommendation algorithm is evaluated with agent simulation. This paper also proposes a navigation interface that presents direction to the next visiting point without using a map. It is evaluated by an experiment with test participants.

Local Binary Patterns (LBP) are among the most computationally efficient amongst high-performance texture features. However, LBP is very sensitive to image noise and is unable to capture macrostructure information. To best address these disadvantages, in this paper we introduce a novel descriptor for texture classification, the Median Robust Extended Local Binary Pattern (MRELBP). In contrast to traditional LBP and many LBP variants, MRELBP compares local image medians instead of raw image intensities. We develop a multiscale LBP-type descriptor by efficiently comparing image medians over a novel sampling scheme, which can capture both microstructure and macrostructure. A comprehensive evaluation on benchmark datasets reveals MRELBP's remarkable performance (robust to gray scale variations, rotation changes and noise) relative to state-of-the-art algorithms, but nevertheless at a low computational cost, producing the best classification scores of 99.82%, 99.38% and 99.77% on three popular Outex test suites. Furthermore, MRELBP is also shown to be highly robust to image noise including Gaussian noise, Gaussian blur, Salt-and-Pepper noise and random pixel corruption.

A Memetic Algorithm Based Feature Weighting for Metabolomics Data Classification

A metaheuristic chain based memetic algorithm namely MCMA is proposed for the classification of metabolomics data. MCMA regards both global evolution and local search as equivalent elemental metaheuristics,and searches with a chain of metaheuristics performed alternatively on the target problem. A hidden Markov model based scheduling mechanism is employed in MCMA for the selection of metaheuristics. By using MCMA for optimizing the linkage weight vector, a feature weighting algorithm for metabolomics data is formed to identify relevant metabolite features and reveal their exact relationships with the given physiological states. An extreme learning machine based classifier is utilized in predicting the physiological states according to the weighted metabolite features. Experimental results on real metabolomics data of clinical liver transplantation demonstrate that the proposed feature weighting and classification method obtains better performance than the other compared algorithms.

High-speed and energy-efficient computations are mandatory in the financial and insurance industry to survive in competition and meet the federal reporting requirements. On a hybrid CPU/FPGA system we propose a modular pricing engine and derive a novel algorithmic extension able to exploit online dynamic reconfiguration. The result is a high-performance and energy-efficient pricing system suitable for exotic option pricing in the state-of-the-art Heston market model. With the online reconfiguration extension our hybrid pricing system is nearly two orders of magnitude faster than high-end Intel CPUs, while consuming the same power. © 2014 Technical University of Munich (TUM).
