Interdependence between transportation system and power distribution system: a comprehensive review on models and applications

The rapidly increasing penetration of electric vehicles(EVs) in modern metropolises has been witnessed during the past decade, inspired by financial subsidies as well as public awareness of climate change and environment pro-tection. Integrating charging facilities, especially highpower chargers in fast charging stations, into power distribution systems remarkably alters the traditional load flow pattern, and thus imposes great challenges on the operation of distribution network in which controllable resources are rare. On the other hand, provided with appropriate incentives, the energy storage capability of electric vehicle offers a unique opportunity to facilitate the integration of distributed wind and solar power generation into power distribution system. The above trends call for thorough investigation and research on the interdependence between transportation system and power distribution system. This paper conducts a comprehensive survey on this line of research. The basic models of transportation system and power distribution system are introduced,especially the user equilibrium model, which describes the vehicular flow on each road segment and is not familiar to the readers in power system community. The modelling of interdependence across the two systems is *** into account such interdependence, applications ranging from long-term planning to short-term operation are reviewed with emphasis on comparing the description of traffic-power interdependence. Finally, an outlook of prospective directions and key technologies in future research is summarized.

Improving Rate of Convergence via Gain Adaptation in Multi-Agent Distributed ADMM Framework

— In this paper, the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is investigated for distributed optimization problems in a networked multi-agent system. In particular, a new adaptive-gain ADMM algorithm is derived in a closed form and under the standard convex property in order to greatly speed up convergence of ADMM-based distributed optimization. Using Lyapunov direct approach, the proposed solution embeds control gains into weighted network matrix among the agents and uses those weights as adaptive penalty gains in the augmented Lagrangian. It is shown that the proposed closed loop gain adaptation scheme significantly improves the convergence time of underlying ADMM optimization. Convergence analysis is provided and simulation results are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The technological potential offered by Maritime Unmanned systems (MUS) is recognized by many countries as an effective tool for both military and civilian applications. The increasing use of MUS brought substantial and new challenges to the Test and Evaluation process that becomes significantly more complicated than traditional systems. Unmanned systems have continuously increasing complexity and capabilities and can be at different maturity levels. These technologies necessitate for specific Test and Evaluation tools throughout the whole program life cycle. For the above reasons, the Naval Support and Experimentation Centre (CSSN) of the Italian Navy and the Italian Interuniversity Center on Integrated systems for the Marine Environment (ISME) founded a joint laboratory in 2015, called SEALab (Laboratory on marine heterogeneous and autonomous systems), with the main goal to jointly develop and manage applied research and experimentation activities of common interest in the field of heterogeneous and autonomous marine systems. © 2019 IMEKO TC19 International Workshop on Metrology for the Sea: Learning to Measure Sea Health Parameters, MetroSea 2019. In the current practical science, the accuracy in the formability of metal alloys being the goal when using electromagnetic forming (EMF) technology, which is a high-speed processing technology that uses Lorentz forces to achieve plastic deformation of sheet metal;according to the previous analysis, the results have shown that in most cases, the Lorentz force acting on the workpiece (metal) is not uniform, there are uneven axial deformations of the metal plates which prevent the rapid advancement of today’s technology. In this article, we presented some advanced analyzes which will lead us to improve the technical solution for the problems of non-uniform axial deformations of the metals in the traditional tube electromagnetic forming technology (EMF). A field shaper is used as a practical forming tool to influence the magnetic field and magnetic pressure distribution, thereby improving the forming ability and result during the electromagnetic forming (EMF) process and we see that induced eddy current control is realized by changing the structural parameters of the magnetic field shaper;which improves the strength and controllability of the magnetic force that acts on the workpiece;thereby a greater radial magnetic pressure can be achieved with field shaper than the case without it;the field shaper regulates the electromagnetic force, the distribution of the magnetic pressure decreases, and the uniform force area of the tube increases which effectively enhances the uniform range of the pipe electromagnetic bulging and the electromagnetic induction coupling between the coil and the metallic workpiece is generally required to produce the Lorentz forces. Using COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software helped us to accurately represent the real world, simulating multiple physical effects that happened in this model during the process.

Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a critical condition that demands early detection, particularly in infancy and childhood. This study presents a deep learning model designed to detect CHD using phonocardiogram (PCG) signals, with a focus on its application in global health. We evaluated our model on several datasets, including the primary dataset from Bangladesh, achieving a high accuracy of 94.1%, sensitivity of 92.7%, specificity of 96.3%. The model also demonstrated robust performance on the public PhysioNet Challenge 2022 and 2016 datasets, underscoring its generalizability to diverse populations and data sources. We assessed the performance of the algorithm for single and multiple auscultation sites on the chest, demonstrating that the model maintains over 85% accuracy even when using a single location. Furthermore, our algorithm was able to achieve an accuracy of 80% on low-quality recordings, which cardiologists deemed non-diagnostic. This research suggests that an AI-driven digital stethoscope could serve as a cost-effective screening tool for CHD in resource-limited settings, enhancing clinical decision support and ultimately improving patient outcomes. © 2025, CC BY.

Mixed-cell-height circuits have become popular in advanced technologies for better power, area, routability, and performance tradeoffs. With technology and region constraints imposed by modern circuit designs, the mixed-cell-height legalization problem has become even more challenging. Additionally, an ideal legalization method should minimize both the average and maximum cell movements to preserve the quality of a given placement as much as possible. In this article, we present an effective and efficient mixed-cell-height legalization algorithm to consider technology and region constraints while minimizing the average and maximum cell movements. We first present a fence region handling technique to unify the fence regions and the default region. To obtain a desired cell assignment, we then propose a movement-aware cell reassignment method by iteratively reassigning cells in locally dense areas to their desired rows. After cell reassignment, a technology-aware legalization is presented to remove cell overlaps while satisfying the technology constraints. Finally, we propose a technology-aware refinement to further reduce the average and maximum cell movements without increasing the technology constraints violations. Compared with the champion of the 2017 CAD Contest at ICCAD and the state-of-the-art work, experimental results based on the 2017 CAD Contest at ICCAD benchmarks show that our algorithm achieves the best average and maximum cell movements and significantly fewer technology constraint violations, in a comparable runtime. The experimental results based on the modified 2015 ISPD Contest benchmarks also demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm in minimizing the average and maximum cell movements, compared with state-of-the-art mixed-cell-height legalizers. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

This study describes the development of a palladium-coated (Pd) optical fiber for room temperature (H2) hydrogen application process. To improve the evanescent light field that propagates through the fiber, a multimode fiber was used to fabricate a transducing channel with cladding and core diameters 125 μm and 62.5 μm respectively. The multimode optical fibers were tapered from 125 μm cladding diameters to 20 μm diameter, 10 mm waist-length, 5 mm to the up and down tapered region, and coated with Pd by using the drop-casting technique. Various characterization techniques have been used to characterize palladium, such as Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), X-ray energy scattering (EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The fabricated Pd-based sensor operates safely at room temperature with a gas concentration of 0.125% to 2.00% H2. The measured sensitivity, response, and recovery time were 18,645%, 50 s, and 230 s, respectively. The selectivity of the fabricated sensor toward H2 was affirmed with no response to other gases such as ammonia (NH3) and methane (CH4). However, this study demonstrates reliable, efficient, and reproducible H2 detection using a simple and cost-effective method. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Support Vector Machine (SVM) is originally a binary large-margin classifier emerged from the concept of structural risk minimization. Multiple solutions such as one-versus-one and one-versus-all have been proposed for creating multi-class SVM using elementary binary SVMs. Also multiple solutions have been proposed for SVM model selection, adjusting margin-parameter C and the Gaussian kernel variance. Here, an improved classifier named SVM-SVM is proposed for multi-class problems which increases accuracy and decreases dependency to margin-parameter selection. SVM-SVM adopts two K-class one-vs-one SVMs in a cascaded two-layer structure. In the first layer, input features are fed to one-vs-one SVM with non-linear kernels. We introduce this layer as a large-margin non-linear feature transform that maps input feature space to a discriminative K*(K-1)/2 dimensional space. To assess our hierarchical classifier, some datasets from the UCI repository are evaluated. Standard one-vs-one SVM and one-vs-one fuzzy SVM are used as reference classifiers in experiments. Results show significant improvements of our proposed method in terms of test accuracy and robustness to the model (margin and kernel) parameters in comparison with the reference classifiers. Our observations suggest that a multi-layer (deep) SVM structures can gain the same benefits as is seen in the deep neural nets (DNNs).

Optical wireless network has the potential to serve space-space, space-terrestrial/aircraft, aircraft-aircraft, data centers and metropolitan area networks. This paper addresses architecture features necessary for these networks. Free space optical (FSO) networks have two dimensions that are not encountered in fiber networks and that is: (1) its ability to connect without pre-deployment of infrastructures and (2) the ability to reconfigure its connection topology by beam steering in time scales of mS-S to adapt to traffic loads, switching node states and atmospheric conditions. This paper presents a multi-layer approach to optical wireless networks and how the architecture can be tuned to applications.
