Enhancing IoT Resilience: Machine Learning Techniques for Autonomous Anomaly Detection and Threat Mitigation

The explosive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has had a substantial impact on daily life and businesses, allowing for real-time monitoring and decision-making. However, increased connectivity also brings higher security risks, such as botnet attacks and the need for stronger user authentication. This research explores how machine learning can enhance Internet of Things security by identifying abnormal activity, utilizing behavioral biometrics to secure cloud-based dashboards, and detecting botnet threats early. Researchers tested numerous machine learning methods, including K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Decision Trees, Logistic Regression, and XGBoost on publicly available datasets. The Decision Tree model earned an impressive accuracy rate of 0.73 for anomaly identification, proving its supremacy in dealing with complex security risks, while the XGBoost model demonstrated strong performance with a 92% accuracy rate for detecting TCP SYN flood attacks. Research findings show the effectiveness of these strategies in enhancing the security and reliability of IoT devices. This study provides significant insights into the use of machine learning to protect IoT devices while also addressing crucial concerns such as power consumption and privacy.

Automated segmentation of brain tumors using Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI)data is critical in the analysis and monitoring of disease *** a result,gliomas are aggressive and diverse tumors that may be split into intra-tumoral groups by using effective and accurate segmentation *** is intended to extract characteristics from an image using the Gray Level Co-occurrence(GLC)matrix feature extraction method described in the proposed *** Convolutional Neural Networks(CNNs),which are commonly used in biomedical image segmentation,CNNs have significantly improved the precision of the state-of-the-art segmentation of a brain *** two segmentation networks,a U-Net and a 3D CNN,we present a major yet easy combinative technique that results in improved and more precise *** U-Net and 3D CNN are used together in this study to get better and more accurate estimates of what is going *** the dataset,two models were developed and assessed to provide segmentation maps that differed fundamentally in terms of the segmented tumour ***,the estimates was made by two separate models that were put together to produce the final *** comparison to current state-of-the-art designs,the precision(percentage)was 98.35,98.5,and 99.4 on the validation set for tumor core,enhanced tumor,and whole tumor,respectively.

Handwritten digit recognition is a significant challenge in the field of machine learning, particularly for pattern recognition and computer vision applications. It has found applications in various areas, such as identifying digits on utility maps, postal mail zip codes, bank check amounts, and more. Offline handwritten digits possess distinct characteristics, including size, orientation, position, and thickness. Each person's handwriting is unique, making the classification process more difficult. Additionally, the high similarity between certain digits and the over fitting problem with high-dimensional data can increase computational time and cost. Consequently, numerous researchers have developed and implemented different machine learning algorithms to effectively address the issue of recognizing handwritten digits. This paper introduces a novel approach to improve the classification performance and accuracy of handwritten digit recognition. The proposed method utilizes an ensemble majority vote classifier, which combines three classifiers in each experiment by utilizing a range of different algorithms;Naïve Bayes (NB), Adaptive Boosting Algorithm (AdaBoost), K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN), Multi-layer Perceptron Classifier (MLP), eXtreme Gradient Boosting algorithm (XGBoost), and Decision Tree Algorithm (DT) to form a single ensemble classifier. To validate the approach, we used the MINST free public handwritten dataset, to ascertain the classifier with the highest rate of accuracy in this study. The results obtained from the experiments demonstrated that the full performance of Ensemble model classifiers MLP, XGBOOST, and DT is superior to AdaBoost, K-NN, and NB. It achieved the highest accuracy level, reaching 98% in the experiment. The experimental results of this research showed that the recognition accuracy was improved compared to previous works. © 2023 IEEE.

Several instances of pneumonia with no clear etiology were recorded in Wuhan,China,on December 31,*** world health organization(WHO)called it COVID-19 that stands for“Coronavirus Disease 2019,”which is the second version of the previously known severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)Coronavirus and identified in short as(SARSCoV-2).There have been regular restrictions to avoid the infection spread in all countries,including Saudi *** prediction of new cases of infections is crucial for authorities to get ready for early handling of the virus ***:Analysis and forecasting of epidemic patterns in new SARSCoV-2 positive patients are presented in this research using metaheuristic optimization and long short-term memory(LSTM).The optimization method employed for optimizing the parameters of LSTM is Al-Biruni Earth Radius(BER)***:To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology,a dataset is collected based on the recorded cases in Saudi Arabia between March 7^(th),2020 and July 13^(th),*** addition,six regression models were included in the conducted experiments to show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed *** achieved results show that the proposed approach could reduce the mean square error(MSE),mean absolute error(MAE),and R^(2)by 5.92%,3.66%,and 39.44%,respectively,when compared with the six base *** the other hand,a statistical analysis is performed to measure the significance of the proposed ***:The achieved results confirm the effectiveness,superiority,and significance of the proposed approach in predicting the infection cases of COVID-19.

Objectives: This work aims to develop an automated video summarising methodology and timestamping that uses natural language processing (NLP) tools to extract significant video ***: The methodology comprises extracting the audio from the video, splitting it into chunks by the size of the pauses, and transcribing the audio using Google's speech recognition. The transcribed text is tokenised to create a summary, sentence and word frequencies are calculated, and the most relevant sentences are selected. The summary quality is assessed using ROUGE criteria, and the most important keywords are extracted from the transcript using ***: Our proposed method successfully extracts key points from video lectures and creates text summaries. Timestamping these key points provides valuable context and facilitates navigation within the lecture. Our method combines video-to-text conversion and text summarisation with timestamping key concepts, offering a novel approach to video lecture analysis. Existing video analysis methods focus on keyword extraction or summarisation, while our method offers a more comprehensive approach. Our timestamped key points provide a unique feature compared to other methods. Our method enhances existing video reports by (i) providing concise summaries of key concepts and (ii) enabling quick access to specific information through timestamps. (iii) Facilitating information retrieval through a searchable index. Further research directions: (i) Improve the accuracy of the multi-stage processing pipeline. (ii) Develop techniques to handle diverse accents and pronunciations. (iii) Explore applications of the proposed method to other video genres and ***/Improvements: This approach is practical in giving accurate video summaries, saving viewers time and effort when comprehending the main concepts presented in a video. © 2024 IEEE.

The surrogate-assisted evolutionary algorithm (SAEA) is one of the most efficient approaches for addressing expensive continuous or combinatorial optimization problems. However, it encounters significant challenges in expensive mixed-variable optimization problems (EMVOPs). To overcome this limitation, a dual-state-driven evolutionary optimization (called DSDEO), integrating a surrogate-assisted mixed-variable evolutionary optimization stage (MVEOS) and a surrogate-assisted continuous-variable evolutionary optimization stage (CVEOS), is proposed in this paper. Specifically, MVEOS employs global and local search to enhance the exploration and exploitation of the mixed-variable space. Global and local searches are alternately executed if one search fails to yield a better solution. CVEOS utilizes a continuous-improvement strategy to refine the continuous variables of the best solution obtained so far. Experimental results demonstrate the advantages of DSDEO compared to some state-of-the-art SAEAs on many benchmark problems. © 2023 IEEE.

Livestock is an integral part of everyday life contributing to the social, cultural, and economic sectors. Livestock farming faces challenges in animal remote management and monitoring, due to cost constraints and product quality requirements. The latest development of smart techniques, especially the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud devices/services provide significant potential for efficient and secure farm management. This paper presents a review of smart farm management and monitoring systems for livestock based on IoT techniques, including the monitoring of animal behavior, weather condition, environment, and more. The review provides a comprehensive understanding of the sensing techniques, data analysis, communication, hardware, and software used in existing smart livestock solutions. © 2022 ACM.

E-textiles for emotion interaction: a scoping review of trends and opportunities

There has been a proliferation of emotion-related interactive textiles in recent years. This research conducted a comprehensive scoping review of the literature on emotion-related interactive textiles design. In total, 75 design studies were identified from their abstracts and analyzed with social network analysis and text mining methods. These studies were categorized into different aims (emotion expression, emotion communication, emotion reflection, emotion regulation, emotional effect, emotional experience, and emotion analysis). This review also analyzed details of prototypes and experimental design, such as textile form, textile function, feedback mechanism, experiment method, evaluation scale, and empirical findings. Then we evaluated these studies based on the relationship of their research aim, textiles, emotion, interaction mechanism, etc. The findings suggest that interactive textiles can aid in emotion presentation, modulation, and creating unique emotional experiences. Interactive textiles, feedback mechanisms, and bodily interaction all serve essential functions and benefit emotional interaction. Last, this review reflected on the critical research directions of emotion-related interactive textiles, including connecting interactive textiles with biofeedback, designing interactive textiles with sensory feedback mechanisms, and increasing bodily interaction for dynamic emotion. Further, this research provided insights into the research gaps, from elaborating on the experiment and exploring the materiality of interactive textiles to concerning privacy and user acceptance. Interactive textiles bridge textiles and emotion together to aid emotional well-being in people’s daily lives. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

This project focuses on the development of a website system designed to facilitate knowledge acquisition for students enrolled in the Kulliyyah of Information Communication and technology (KICT) at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The aim is to alleviate the information overload experienced by new intake students during the Taaruf week (orientation week). Despite its establishment in 2010, KICT faces a persistent challenge where new students remain unaware of crucial system details, including rules, regulations, and academic matters. To address this issue, the project endeavors to provide a comprehensive platform enabling new students to access pertinent information and knowledge about KICT. An analysis of seven similar existing systems has been conducted, highlighting their main functions, advantages, and disadvantages. The system Development Life Cycle methodology has been selected for its practicality in guiding the project through the phases of Final Year Project (FYP) 1 and FYP2. Data collection involved surveying 30 KICT students to identify challenges faced by new students in obtaining the necessary information. Results underscore the urgent need for a technically guided application to enhance student understanding of KICT. The logical design of the app encompasses a Use Case Diagram, Use Case Narrative, Activity Diagram, Interface Flow, Low-Fidelity Design, and Interface Flow. The 'i-know' system has been developed using PHP, HTML, CSS, and Javascript, with connectivity to MySQL through phpMyAdmin for user authentication. The User Acceptance Test (UAT) was conducted during implementation, following beta testing. The paper concludes with insights into the system's effectiveness and its potential to address the identified challenges faced by new KICT students. © 2024 IEEE.

Container based microservices have been widely applied to promote the cloud elasticity. The mainstream Docker containers are structured in layers, which are organized in stack with bottom-up dependency. To start a microservice, the required layers are pulled from a remote registry and stored on its host server, following the layer dependency order. This incurs long microservice startup time and hinders the performance efficiency. In this paper, we discover that, for the first time, the layer pulling order can be adjusted to accelerate the microservice startup. Specifically, we address the problem on microservice layer pulling orchestration for startup time minimization and prove it as NP-hard. We propose a Longest-chain based Out-of-order layer Pulling Orchestration (LOPO) strategy with low computational complexity and guaranteed approximation ratio. Through extensive real-world trace driven experiments, we verify the efficiency of our LOPO and demonstrate that it reduces the microservice startup time by 22.71% on average in comparison with state-of-the-art solutions. © 2023 IEEE.
