With the advancement of deep learning technology, researchers have begun employing deep neural network models such as LSTM, MLP, CNN, and GRU to tackle nonlinear prediction problems in stock markets. This study harnesses these deep learning models, including LSTM, MLP, CNN, and GRU, to investigate the nonlinear forecasting of stock market price indices. The experiment selects globally representative stock indices and, through analyzing short-term, mid-term, and long-term data, discovers that the GRU model demonstrates exceptional performance in both prediction accuracy and generalization capabilities. To further enhance precision, the research constructs a filtering ensemble decision-making system based on multiple GRU models. This strategy reduces the error by at least 0.3% in medium to long-term predictions, significantly outperforming a single standalone GRU model. Consequently, the GRU-filtered ensemble decision model has been empirically proven as an effective tool for predicting stock indices, not only broadening the methods available for stock market prediction but also deepening the understanding and application of the generalization abilities of deep learning models within financial markets. © 2024 The Authors.

Fiber materials are key materials that have changed human history and promoted the progress of human civilization. system operators in low-inertia power systems often have to curtail renewable energy sources (RES) and employ strict under-frequency load shedding (UFLS) schemes to ensure frequency security after an event leading to loss of generation. This approach limits the maximum RES penetration in a system and results to the loss of load. To tackle these problems, fast frequency response (FFR) schemes can be used to limit the frequency Nadir after a disturbance and decrease the need for RES curtailments and UFLS. This article provides insights on the interaction between the Kinetic Energy (KE), Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR), and Nadir after a disturbance, which are the driving mechanisms leading to RES curtailment. Then, it analyses the impact of FFR on the Nadir and its ability to alleviate RES curtailment problems. The low-inertia, islanded, Cyprus dynamic model is used to quantify the results and showcase the impact on a real system. © The Institution of Engineering & technology 2024.

The ever-expanding Internet of Things (IoT) landscape presents a double-edged sword. While it fosters interconnectedness, the vast amount of data generated by IoT devices creates a larger attack surface for cybercriminals. Intrusions in these environments can have severe consequences. To combat this growing threat, robust intrusion detection systems (IDS) are crucial. The data comprised by this attack is multivariate, highly complex, non-stationary, and nonlinear. To extract the complex patterns from this complex data, we require the most robust, optimized tools. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) have emerged as powerful tools for IDSs, offering high accuracy in detecting and preventing security breaches. This research delves into anomaly detection, a technique that identifies deviations from normal system behavior, potentially indicating attacks. Given the complexity of anomaly data, we explore methods to improve detection performance. This research investigates the design and evaluation of a novel IDS. We leverage and optimize supervised ML methods like tree-based Support Vector Machines (SVM), ensemble methods, and neural networks (NN) alongside the cutting-edge DL approach of long short-term memory (LSTM) and vision transformers (ViT). We optimized the hyperparameters of these algorithms using a robust Bayesian optimization approach. The implemented ML models achieved impressive training accuracy, with Random Forest and Ensemble Bagged Tree surpassing 99.90% of accuracy, an AUC of 1.00, an F1-score, and a balanced Matthews Correlation Coefficient (MCC) of 99.78%. While the initial deep learning LSTM model yielded an accuracy of 99.97%, the proposed ViT architecture significantly boosted performance with 100% of all metrics, along with a validation accuracy of 78.70% and perfect training accuracy. Segmentation of brain tumors aids in diagnosing the disease early, planning treatment, and monitoring its progression in medical image analysis. Automation is necessary to eliminate the time and variability associated with traditional segmentation methods. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and U-Net architectures have demonstrated their efficiency and effectiveness in segmenting brain tumors from MRI images using deep learning techniques. The paper presents an improved U-Net-based segmentation algorithm that integrates nested skip paths to improve encoder-decoder feature fusion. The performance of segmentation was optimized by utilizing a variety of activation functions and loss functions, including Dice Loss and Intersection over Union (IoU). A high level of accuracy was demonstrated in the proposed model when it was evaluated using the LGG Segmentation Dataset. The proposed approach for segmenting medical images has been shown to be both robust and efficient in a comparative analysis. © 2025 The Authors

Fault detection(FD) for traction systems is one of the active topics in the railway and academia because it is the initial step for the running reliability and safety of high-speed trains. Heterogeneity of data and complexity of systems have brought new challenges to the traditional FD methods. For addressing these challenges, this paper designs an FD algorithm based on the improved unscented Kalman filter(UKF) with consideration of performance degradation. It is derived by incorporating a degradation process into the state-space *** network topology of traction systems is taken into consideration for improving the performance of state estimation. We first obtain the mixture distribution by the mixture of sigma points in UKF. Then, the Lévy process with jump points is introduced to construct the degradation model. Finally, the moving average interstate standard deviation(MAISD) is designed for detecting *** the proposed methods via a traction systems in a certain type of trains obtains satisfactory results.

Smartphones and their mobile applications have become an inseparable part of modern daily life. One of them is a public transportation app that helps people commute with public transportation. Many public transportation service providers have mobile applications as a companion for their customers to improve their quality of service. The application provides useful information and/or important features regarding their service, such as timetables or route finding for public transit. Such features run a slow algorithm to provide real-time or time-based information to the users. Dijkstra is one example of an algorithm that allows users to find the shortest path from one location to another in a public transit network. However, Dijkstra is categorized as a greedy algorithm because it looks at all possible solutions. It takes longer for Dijkstra to find the optimum solution when the number of points in a network graph is high. This study attempted to improve the overall route-finding processing time and reduce the memory footprint while keeping the visual cue of a route path reasonably consistent by utilizing Douglas-Peucker line simplification algorithm to simplify the path and reduce the number of points that Dijkstra algorithm processes. The result suggested that Douglas-Peucker simplification process took 0.5% additional memory footprint and put 5.13% additional processing time into the overall route-finding processing time. However, it reduces the overall memory footprint and processing time by 72.56% and 80.83%, respectively. The result conveyed a significant improvement in the practical implementation of Douglas-Peucker algorithm to reduce the input for the Dijkstra algorithm in finding the optimal route, thereby improving the overall route-finding performance. © 2023 ACM.

This paper presents a large gathering dataset of images extracted from publicly filmed videos by 24 cameras installed on the premises of Masjid Al-Nabvi,Madinah,Saudi *** dataset consists of raw and processed images reflecting a highly challenging and unconstraint *** methodology for building the dataset consists of four core phases;that include acquisition of videos,extraction of frames,localization of face regions,and cropping and resizing of detected face *** raw images in the dataset consist of a total of 4613 frames obtained fromvideo *** processed images in the dataset consist of the face regions of 250 persons extracted from raw data images to ensure the authenticity of the presented *** dataset further consists of 8 images corresponding to each of the 250 subjects(persons)for a total of 2000 *** portrays a highly unconstrained and challenging environment with human faces of varying sizes and pixel quality(resolution).Since the face regions in video sequences are severely degraded due to various unavoidable factors,it can be used as a benchmark to test and evaluate face detection and recognition algorithms for research *** have also gathered and displayed records of the presence of subjects who appear in presented frames;in a temporal *** can also be used as a temporal benchmark for tracking,finding persons,activity monitoring,and crowd counting in large crowd scenarios.

Over the past decade, almost all countries in the world have experiencing growth in both the size and the proportion of elderly people in the population. The number of world's aging population is expected to reach about 2.1 billion by 2050, which is more than double figure from 1 billion in 2020. This statistic indicates the fact that we are entering the era of 'super-aged society'. One of the major problems in the elderly comes in the form of a decline in health and physical function, generally called Frailty. The elderly with frailty typically suffer several health issues including loss of muscle mass, poor gait and balance and cognitive impairment. They are higher risk of falls and quick progression to dependency. Early identification of frailty is required to effectively reduce and prevent frailty outcomes. To address the problem, we propose a frailty detection system that can remotely analyze gait characteristics and detect frailty among elderly individuals in real-time. Our system utilizes an Ultra-wideband tag attached to the body of the elderly as a data collection device. It applies data stream mining techniques that perform machine learning-based gait analysis and detect frailty based on the patterns of acceleration data. The experimental result indicates that our proposed frailty detection system is practical to be used in real-world settings with relatively high accuracy rate, about 81.8% for overall accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.
