Differential signals are key in control engineering as they anticipate future behavior of process variables and therefore are critical in formulating control laws such as proportional-integral-derivative(PID).The practical challenge,however,is to extract such signals from noisy measurements and this difficulty is addressed first by *** in the form of linear and nonlinear tracking differentiator(TD).While improvements were made,TD did not completely resolve the conflict between the noise sensitivity and the accuracy and timeliness of the *** two approaches proposed in this paper start with the basic linear TD,but apply iterative learning mechanism to the historical data in a moving window(MW),to form two new iterative learning tracking differentiators(IL-TD):one is a parallel IL-TD using an iterative ladder network structure which is implementable in analog circuits;the other a serial IL-TD which is implementable digitally on any computer *** algorithms are validated in simulations which show that the proposed two IL-TDs have better tracking differentiation and de-noise performance compared to the existing linear TD.

The growing popularity of the Android platform makes it a target of malware authors. The effective identification of such malware is an ongoing challenge. Several methods using machine learning have been proposed to prevent this threat. These methods are usually conventionally evaluated without considering the extent of performance over time. Given the evolving nature of both malware and benign apps, conventional evaluation may lack information. To imitate reality, this study compares the longitudinal performance of different machine learning models, using different strategies that combine permissions and API calls as features extracted through static analysis. Thus, to determine which strategy of features on which classifier are most effective to characterize malware for building a robust malware detector. To achieve this goal, on the one hand, we use a large real-world app set consisting of 100K (50k benign, 50k malware) apps date-labeled, collected across ten years, first seen between 2013 and 2022. On the other hand, each feature's strategy is fed into five classifiers (i.e., SVM, RF, LR, DT, and ANN), using old apps for the training and new apps for the evaluation. Among the assessed machine learning models, the SVM achieves the most promising results over time by employing the combination strategy of the high difference usage of API calls and permissions. © 2023 IEEE.

Generative diffusion models like Stable Diffusion are at the forefront of the thriving field of generative models today, celebrated for their robust training methodologies and high-quality photorealistic generation capabilities. These models excel in producing rich content, establishing them as essential tools in the industry. Building on this foundation, the field has seen the rise of personalized content synthesis as a particularly exciting application. However, the large model sizes and iterative nature of inference make it difficult to deploy personalized diffusion models broadly on local devices with heterogeneous computational power. To address this, we propose a novel framework for efficient multi-user offloading of personalized diffusion models. This framework accommodates a variable number of users, each with different computational capabilities, and adapts to the fluctuating computational resources available on edge servers. To enhance computational efficiency and alleviate the storage burden on edge servers, we propose a tailored multi-user hybrid inference approach. This method splits the inference process for each user into two phases, with an optimizable split point. Initially, a cluster-wide model processes low-level semantic information for each user's prompt using batching techniques. Subsequently, users employ their personalized models to refine these details during the later phase of inference. Given the constraints on edge server computational resources and users' preferences for low latency and high accuracy, we model the joint optimization of each user's offloading request handling and split point as an extension of the Generalized Quadratic Assignment Problem (GQAP). Our objective is to maximize a comprehensive metric that balances both latency and accuracy across all users. The decline of conventional synchronous generators in the modern power system is driven by the increasing demand for low-inertia/inertia-less renewable energy sources (RES), consequently leading to the growing integration of inverter-based resources (IBRs) into the power system. The incorporation of low-inertia/inertia-less IBRs makes the monitoring and damping of low-frequency electromechanical oscillations (EMOs) crucial. While Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control introduces virtual inertia into the power system, it does not maximize energy capture from RES as effectively as maximum power point tracking (MPPT) does, as it should maintain a power reserve to provide the inertial support and damping. In this study, switching IBRs between MPPT and VSG controls based on an EMO index (EMOI) threshold is proposed to mitigate the emergence of EMO. The impact of the switching control of IBRs is illustrated for a modified two-area, four-machine power system with two large solar photovoltaic plants. Typical results are presented from a simulation on real-time digital simulator (RTDS) to show improved EMOI.

RTL Interconnect Obfuscation By Polymorphic Switch Boxes For Secure Hardware Generation

Logic Obfuscation is a well renowned design-for-trust solution to protect an Integrated Circuit (IC) from unauthorized use and illegal overproduction by including key-gates to lock the design. This is particularly necessary for ICs manufactured at untrusted third-party foundries getting exposed to security threats. In the past, several logic obfuscation methodologies have been proposed that are vulnerable to attacks such as the Boolean Satisfiability Attack. Many of these techniques are implemented at the gate level that may involve expensive re-synthesis cycles. In this paper, we present an interconnect obfuscation scheme at the Register-Transfer Level (RTL) using Switch Boxes (SBs) constructed of Polymorphic Transistors. A polymorphic SB can be designed using the same transistor count as its Complementary-Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor based counterpart, thereby no increased area in comparison, but serving as an advantage in having more key-bit combinations for an attacker to correctly identify and unlock each polymorphic SB. Security-aware high-level synthesis algorithms have also been presented to increase RTL interconnects to Functional Units impacting multiple outputs such that when a polymorphic SB is strategically inserted, those outputs would be corrupted upon incorrect key-bit identification. Finally, we run the SMT (Satisfiability Modulo Theories)-based RTL Logic Attack on the obfuscated design to examine its robustness. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Simulations are commonly used to develop and evaluate video encryption algorithms. Although these approaches are useful for demonstrating theoretical feasibility and algorithm performance, they neglect practical challenges and real-world communication conditions. This oversight creates a critical gap in evaluating their effectiveness and security in practical applications. In this paper, we describe a novel, to the best of our knowledge, video encryption scheme that employs a modified chaotic Colpitts oscillator, a customized Josephus problem, and ribonucleic acid (RNA) operations, and is implemented in visible light communication (VLC) environment. The modified Colpitts oscillator reveals significant phenomena, the most prominent for this study being chaos. The encryption scheme involves block scrambling and pixel-level permutation employing a customized Josephus problem and a column and row shifting technique. Diffusion is then achieved through a custom Josephus problem-oriented RNA operation combined with basic RNA operations and cipher block chaining (CBC). Based on the results, we found that the customized Josephus problem-based permutation performed more efficiently than traditional methods, whereas the column and row shifting permutation was more robust. By eliminating key sequence coding and item-to-item operations, the proposed RNA operation reduces computational overhead. This video encryption scheme is proven to be effective and resilient at securing video data transmitted over the VLC channel, and it constitutes a significant advancement in areas such as surveillance, medical imaging, and military communication requiring robust secured video data. © 2025 Optica Publishing Group. The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into the smart grid has introduced new challenges and opportunities for optimizing power and energy management. This paper presents a simple method using a decision-tree to estimate allocation of electric vehicle grid interfaces (EVGIs) for EV charging/discharging, leveraging the nodal capabilities of a distribution system. The future distribution system will cater for vehicle-to-grid (V2G) transactions in addition to grid-to-vehicle (G2V) transactions, thus EVGIs allowing for bidirectional (G2V/V2G) power flows need to be deployed. The proposed decision-tree method is based on nodal power flow ratings and peak demand at the nodes assuming the nodal voltages are maintained within their stability envelopes by volt-var optimization and other voltage control methods. The allocation of EVGIs in the IEEE 34 test node feeder distribution system using the decision-tree method is illustrated. The EVGI allocation using decision-trees is a simple method that can provide insights of a typical distribution system's capability to support EV integration with emerging smart grid technologies.
