Predicting pedestrians' trajectories is a crucial capability for autonomous vehicles' safe navigation, especially in spaces shared with pedestrians. Pedestrian motion in shared spaces is influenced by both the presence of vehicles and other pedestrians. Therefore, effectively modelling both pedestrian-pedestrian and pedestrian-vehicle interactions can increase the accuracy of the pedestrian trajectory prediction models. Despite the huge literature on ways to encode the effect of interacting agents on a pedestrian's predicted trajectory using deep-learning models, limited effort has been put into the effective selection of interacting agents. In the majority of cases, the interaction features used are mainly based on relative distances while paying less attention to the effect of the velocity and approaching direction in the interaction formulation. In this paper, we propose a heuristic-based process of selecting the interacting agents based on collision risk calculation. Focusing on interactions of potentially colliding agents with a target pedestrian, we propose the use of time-to-collision and the approach direction angle of two agents for encoding the interaction effect. This is done by introducing a novel polar collision grid map. Our results have shown predicted trajectories closer to the ground truth compared to existing methods (used as a baseline) on the HBS dataset.

Buildings equipped with battery energy storages (BES), thermal energy storages (TES), Photovoltaics (PV), solar thermal collectors (STC) and modulating heat pumps (HP) can significantly enhance the energy management potential. The energy management systems are mainly based on self-consumption maximization (SCM) and time-of-use arbitrage (ToUA). In terms of electricity pricing, dynamic pricing policies with two, three tariff zones or real-time pricing (RTP) are mostly applied. In this study, different control algorithms based on the concepts of SCM and ToUA are evaluated for a complex energy system consisted of BES, TES, PV, STC and HPs with variable-speed compressors. The performance of the proposed energy management strategies is assessed under ToU and RTP pricing regimes. © 2022 IEEE.

With the frequent occurrence of extreme events like natural disasters and man-made attacks, the resilience concept is attracting worldwide research attention. Thus, this paper proposes a resilient operation model for the power distribution network (PDN) to recover load and limit economic loss to the greatest possible extent. First, the line hardening measure is applied to strengthen the PDN to avoid the serious breakdown of distribution lines. In addition, a comprehensive single commodity flow-based reconfiguration approach is used which not only sets the buses connecting generation sources but also those at the end of broken lines as the slack buses. Then, the radiality of PDNs can still be guaranteed after reconfiguration. The resilience-oriented operation problem can be originally formulated as a nonlinear programming one while efficient linearization methods are applied to reduce computational burdens. Hence, the operation problem is reformulated as a mixed-integer linear programming one which will enjoy favorable solution performances. Finally, case studies on an IEEE 33 PDN including comparison cases with traditional benchmarks are done to show the effectiveness of our method. © 2023 IEEE.

Pedestrian Trajectory Prediction in Pedestrian-Vehicle Mixed Environments: A Systematic Review

Planning an autonomous vehicle’s (AV) path in a space shared with pedestrians requires reasoning about pedestrians’ future trajectories. A practical pedestrian trajectory prediction algorithm for the use of AVs needs to consider the effect of the vehicle’s interactions with the pedestrians on pedestrians’ future motion behaviours. In this regard, this paper systematically reviews different methods proposed in the literature for modelling pedestrian trajectory prediction in presence of vehicles that can be applied for unstructured environments. This paper also investigates specific considerations for pedestrian-vehicle interaction (compared with pedestrian-pedestrian interaction) and reviews how different variables such as prediction uncertainties and behavioural differences are accounted for in the previously proposed prediction models. PRISMA guidelines were followed. Articles that did not consider vehicle and pedestrian interactions or actual trajectories, and articles that only focused on road crossing were excluded. A total of 1260 unique peer-reviewed articles from ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, and Scopus databases were identified in the search. 64 articles were included in the final review as they met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. An overview of datasets containing trajectory data of both pedestrians and vehicles used by the reviewed papers has been provided. Research gaps and directions for future work, such as having more effective definition of interacting agents in deep learning methods and the need for gathering more datasets of mixed traffic in unstructured environments are discussed. Myelin damage and a wide range of symptoms are caused by the immune system targeting the central nervous system in Multiple Sclerosis(MS),a chronic autoimmune neurological *** disrupts signals between the brain and body,causing symptoms including tiredness,muscle weakness,and difficulty with memory and *** methods for detecting MS are less precise and time-consuming,which is a major gap in addressing this *** gap has motivated the investigation of new methods to improve MS detection consistency and *** paper proposed a novel approach named FAD consisting of Deep Neural Network(DNN)fused with an Artificial Neural Network(ANN)to detect MS with more efficiency and accuracy,utilizing regularization and combat *** use gene expression data for MS research in the GEO GSE17048 *** dataset is preprocessed by performing encoding,standardization using min-max-scaler,and feature selection using Recursive Feature Elimination with Cross-Validation(RFECV)to optimize and refine the ***,for experimenting with the dataset,another deep-learning hybrid model is integrated with different ML models,including Random Forest(RF),Gradient Boosting(GB),XGBoost(XGB),K-Nearest Neighbors(KNN)and Decision Tree(DT).Results reveal that FAD performed exceptionally well on the dataset,which was evident with an accuracy of 96.55%and an F1-score of 96.71%.The use of the proposed FAD approach helps in achieving remarkable results with better accuracy than previous studies.

This paper presents the design and implementation of an energy management system (EMS) for a renewable energy system using Matlab Simulink and Arduino Mega. The proposed renewable energy system is composed of an electrolyzer, a battery, photovoltaic modules, and fuel cells. The developed energy management is implemented on the Arduino board to control the connection of the different components to the load based on the load power consumption, the battery's charge state, and the energy produced by the photovoltaic modules. The energy management system inputs include the information on the amount of energy produced by the photovoltaic modules, the power used by the load, and the battery's charge state. When the produced energy exceeds the energy used by the load and the batteries are fully charged, the system allows the electrolyzer to connect to the photovoltaic modules to produce the hydrogen. Our proposed system is based on low cost technology that intends to extend the life of the batteries and enhance the efficiency of the renewable energy system by the production and using the hydrogen. The obtained experimental results show the effectiveness of the EMS in controlling the connection of the different components. © 2022 IEEE.

The integration of electric vehicles (EVs) into the electric power distribution system poses numerous challenges and opportunities for optimizing energy management and system operations. Electric vehicle grid interfaces (EVGIs), essentially bidirectional power converters, allow for charging/grid-to-vehicle (G2V) and discharging/vehicle-to-grid (V2G) power transfers. A power dispatch estimation (PDE) model for V2G, based on availability of EVs in a distribution system and capabilities of the distribution system, is needed to assist in grid operations. This paper presents the development of a PDE model based on nodal power flows to capture the complex spatiotemporal dependencies inherent in G2V and V2G patterns. The hierarchical structure of a distribution system, feeder to EVGI node, is taken into consideration for PDE. Typical PDE estimation results are presented for the IEEE 34 test node feeder distribution system allocated with EVGIs.

The upcoming 6G mobile wireless networks are expected to support massive ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (mURLLC), which is an emerging service that demands more stringent requirements than the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks on delay and error-rate bounded quality-of-services (QoS) with massive connectivity. Finite blocklength coding (FBC) techniques based short packets communication techniques have been shown to be able to support both the statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning. Rate splitting (RS) multiple access schemes have been proposed to address the sum degree-of-freedom loss problem over massive multiple-input and multiple-output channels when massive mobile users request to access the network. However, how to support the statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning using FBC among massive mobile users to enable the massive access has not been sufficiently studied. In this paper, we propose to integrate FBC with RS techniques to achieve mURLLC transmissions. First, we define the ∊-effective capacity to measure the performance of statistical delay and error-rate bounded provisioning, and obtain a closed-form ∊-effective capacity under the RS scheme. Then, we maximize the aggregate ∊-effective capacity over all mobile users by deriving an optimal transmit power allocation strategy for the RS scheme. Finally, using numerical analyses, we validate and evaluate our proposed RS schemes to support statistical delay and error-rate bounded QoS provisioning over 6G communication networks in the non-asymptotic regime.

The growth of hydrogen infrastructure is expected to aid in the integration of fluctuating renewable energy in distribution systems. To leverage the hydrogen system flexibility, this work presents a mixed-binary quadratic program (MBQP) model for synergistic operations of hydrogen and power distribution systems, wherein truck-mounted mobile hydrogen storage facilities are modeled for the schedule of their routes and loading/unloading quantities. A quantum-assisted combinatorial Benders' decomposition algorithm is designed for our MBQP model to deploy the solving of master and sub-problems on a quantum processing unit (QPU) and a classical CPU, respectively. The master problem is reformulated as a quadratic unconstrained binary optimization (QUBO) problem, which can be efficiently solved by quantum annealers. The proposed approach was tested on a hybrid quantum annealing and classical computing platform. Results show a trend to outperform the CPU-based commercial solvers as the problem scale increases. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

Traditional load shedding schemes can be inadequate in grids with high renewable penetration, leading to unstable events and unnecessary grid islanding. Although for both manual and automatic operating modes load shedding areas have been predefined by grid operators, they have remained fixed, and may be sub-optimal due to dynamic operating conditions. In this work, a distributed tri-level linear programming model for automatic load shedding to avoid system islanding is presented. Preventing islanding is preferred because it reduces the need for additional load shedding besides the disconnection of transmission lines between islands. This is crucial as maintaining the local generation-demand balance is necessary to preserve frequency stability. Furthermore, uneven distribution of generation resources among islands can lead to increased load shedding, causing economic and reliability challenges. This issue is further compounded in modern power systems heavily dependent on non-dispatchable resources like wind and solar. The upper-level model uses complex power flow measurements to determine the system areas to shed load depending on actual operating conditions using a spectral clustering approach. The mid-level model estimates the area system state, while the lower-level model determines the locations and load values to be shed. The solution is practical and promising for real-world applications. © 2024 IEEE.
