We present a distributed algorithm for a multiagent system in a collaborative setting including the cost of actions. We revise the distributed Max-Plus algorithm by presenting a new Cost Distributed Max-Plus (CD Max-Plus) algorithm by including the cost of actions in the interactions of agents, named Factored Value-MCTS-CD Max-Plus algorithm. The proposed Factored Value-MCTS-CD Max-Plus algorithm is online, anytime, distributed, and scalable in number of agents and their interactions. Our contribution is an alternative solution for solving cost Dec-POMDPs competing with the state of art methods and algorithms using MCTS and Max-Plus algorithms to exploit the locality of agent interactions for planning and acting. © 2022 IEEE.

In this paper, the robust design for the intelligent reflective surface (IRS) assisted wireless multi-group multicast system is considered, in which two optimization design problems under two different channel state information (CSI) error models are separately discussed, i.e., the fairness-based problems and the quality-of-service (QoS)-based problems for both the bounded CSI error model and the statistical CSI error model. In order to deal with the non-convex constraints of the considered problems, i.e., bounded CSI error based constraint and statistical CSI error based constraint, S-procedure is adopted to convert the non-convex SINR constraint with bounded CSI error into linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), and the Bernstein-type inequality is utilized to transform the outage probability constraint with statistical CSI error into a second-order cone (SOC) constraint and linear inequalities. Following that, two efficient algorithms based on alternate optimization (AO) are proposed to solve the fairness problems and QoS problems, wherein the semi-definite programming (SDP), penalty convex-concave procedure (CCP) and semi-definite relaxation (SDR) are utilized. Furthermore, we analyze the complexity of the proposed algorithms. Finally, some numerical simulation results are presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms, and the impacts of the CSI error and the discrete precision of IRS reflection phase shift on the system performance are analyzed, which provides some insights for the IRS deployment and system robust design. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Data center power supply units (PSU) have high power density due to the increasing power demand and their low profiles. Air cooling proves to be increasingly difficult in mitigating the hot spots, and it also consumes extra energy in fluid delivery, air conditioning, and rejection to the ambience. In this work, we redesign and modify the PSU cooling infrastructure and adopt quiescent immersion cooling. This design removes all active air-cooling elements and enables heat capture. The PSU used in the experiments is a 2 kW 80 Plus Platinum commercial unit (Bel PET2000-12-074RA). The cooling performance was characterized by tracking the steady-state case temperatures of the switching semiconductors. Flutec PP1 was used to study the cooling performance variations with respect to PSU load and capture temperature. Conventional fan-cooled PSU with heat sinks served as the benchmark. Experiments show that two-phase immersion cooling grants an overall enhancement of 4.4× over the original air-cooling approach at 40 °C heat capture. The results suggest that heat rejection from the dielectric fluid to the riding heatsink is the main bottleneck, and further reduction of the thermal resistance would allow heat capture at a temperature closer to the liquid boiling point. The PSU thermal management approach studied here can help lower data center power usage effectiveness (PUE) while increasing PSU power delivery density. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, the optimization of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) localization under jamming attacks is studied. In the considered network, a base station (BS) collaborates with an active UAV to localize a target UAV. During this positioning process, a jamming UAV transmits discontinuous signals to passive UAVs to interfere the distance information measurement. To localize the target UAV under jamming attacks, the BS jointly use two localization methods: 1) generative adversarial network (GAN)-based positioning method and 2) time difference of arrival (TDOA)-based positioning method. Since GAN-based positioning method cannot defense in a strong jamming signal while TDOA-based positioning method may consume more energy and sacrifice localization accuracy, the BS must select an appropriate positioning method (GAN-based or TDOA-based methods) and four distance measurement information of passive UAVs to estimate the position of the target UAV. This problem is formulated as an optimization problem whose goal is to minimize the positioning error between the estimated and the ground truth positions of the target UAV while considering jamming attacks and the trajectory of passive UAVs. To solve this problem, we propose a mixture Gaussian distribution model-based collaborative reinforcement learning (RL) method which enables the active UAV to determine its transmit power and trajectory, and enables the BS to select the most appropriate subsets of distance measurement information and the optimal positioning method according to the movement of passive UAVs and the unknown jamming attack pattern of the jamming UAV. Simulation results show the proposed method can reduce the positioning error of the target UAV by up to 36.5% compared to the method that does not consider the GAN-based positioning method. © 2024 IEEE.

In modern resource-sharing systems, multiple agents access limited resources with unknown stochastic conditions to perform tasks. When multiple agents access the same resource (arm) simultaneously, they compete for successful usage, leading to contention and reduced rewards. This motivates our theoretical study of competitive multi-armed bandit (CMAB) games. In this paper, we study a new N-player K-arm competitive MAB game, where non-myopic players (agents) compete with each other to form diverse private estimations of unknown arms over time. Their possible collisions on the same arms and the time-varying nature of arm rewards make the policy analysis here more involved than the existing studies for myopic players. We explicitly analyze the threshold-based structures of the social optimum and the existing selfish policy, showing that the latter causes prolonged convergence times (Formula presented), while the socially optimal policy with coordinated communication reduces it to (Formula presented). Based on the policy comparison, we prove that the competition among selfish players for the best arm can result in an infinite price of anarchy (PoA), indicating an arbitrarily large efficiency loss compared to the social optimum. We further prove that no informational (non-monetary) mechanism (including Bayesian persuasion) can reduce the infinite PoA, as strategic misreporting by non-myopic players undermines such approaches. To address this, we propose a Combined Informational and Side-Payment (CISP) mechanism, which provides socially optimal arm recommendations with proper informational and monetary incentives to players according to their diverse and time-varying private beliefs. Our CISP mechanism keeps ex-post budget balanced for the social planner and ensures truthful reporting from players, thereby achieving the minimum PoA = 1 and the same convergence time as the social optimum. Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) stands at the forefront of AI innovation, demonstrating rapid advancement and unparalleled proficiency in generating diverse content. Beyond content creation, GAI has significant analytical abilities to learn complex data distribution, offering numerous opportunities to resolve security issues. In the realm of security from physical layer perspectives, traditional AI approaches frequently struggle, primarily due to their limited capacity to dynamically adjust to the evolving physical attributes of transmission channels and the complexity of contemporary cyber threats. This adaptability and analytical depth are precisely where GAI excels. Therefore, in this paper, we offer an extensive survey on the various applications of GAI in enhancing security within the physical layer of communication networks. We first emphasize the importance of advanced GAI models in this area, including Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), Autoencoders (AEs), Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), and Diffusion Models (DMs). We delve into the roles of GAI in addressing challenges of physical layer security, focusing on communication confidentiality, authentication, availability, resilience, and integrity. Furthermore, we also present future research directions focusing model improvements, multi-scenario deployment, resource-efficient optimization, and secure semantic communication, highlighting the multifaceted potential of GAI to address emerging challenges in secure physical layer communications and sensing. © 2024, CC BY.

Weakly supervised video object segmentation (WSVOS) enables the identification of segmentation maps without requiring extensive annotations of object masks, relying instead on coarse video labels indicating object presence. WSVOS in surgical videos is, however, more challenging due to the complex interaction of multiple transient objects, such as surgical tools moving in and out of the surgical field. In this scenario, state-of-the-art WSVOS methods struggle to learn accurate segmentation maps. We address this problem by introducing ViDeo Spatio-Temporal disentanglement Networks (VDST-Net), a framework to disentangle complex spatio-temporal object interactions using semi-decoupled knowledge distillation to predict high-quality class activation maps (CAMs). A teacher network is designed to help a temporal-reasoning student network resolve activation conflicts, as the student leverages temporal dependencies when specifics about object location and timing in the video are not provided. We demonstrate the efficacy of our framework on a challenging surgical video dataset where objects are, on average, present in less than 60% of annotated frames, and compare our method to state-of-the-art methods on surgical data and on a public dataset commonly used to benchmark WSVOS. Our method outperforms state-of-the-art techniques and generates accurate segmentation masks under video-level weak supervision. Our code is available at: https://***/PCASOlab/VDST-net.

AD-L-JEPA: Self-Supervised Spatial World Models with Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture for Autonomous Driving with LiDAR Data

As opposed to human drivers, current autonomous driving systems still require vast amounts of labeled data to train. Recently, world models have been proposed to simultaneously enhance autonomous driving capabilities by improving the way these systems understand complex real-world environments and reduce their data demands via self-supervised pre-training. In this paper, we present AD-L-JEPA (aka Autonomous Driving with LiDAR data via a Joint Embedding Predictive Architecture), a novel self-supervised pre-training framework for autonomous driving with LiDAR data that, as opposed to existing methods, is neither generative nor contrastive. Our method learns spatial world models with a joint embedding predictive architecture. Instead of explicitly generating masked unknown regions, our self-supervised world models predict Bird’s Eye View (BEV) embeddings to represent the diverse nature of autonomous driving scenes. Our approach furthermore eliminates the need to manually create positive and negative pairs, as is the case in contrastive learning. AD-L-JEPA leads to simpler implementation and enhanced learned representations. We qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrate high-quality of embeddings learned with AD-L-JEPA. We furthermore evaluate the accuracy and label efficiency of AD-L-JEPA on popular downstream tasks such as LiDAR 3D object detection and associated transfer learning. Notably, our method achieves up to a 5× speed-up in pre-training time compared with the state-of-the-art (SOTA) approaches and consistently delivers better performance when fine-tuned on different amounts of labeled data compared to SOTA. More impressively, the experiments show that even when the first layers of the encoders of ADL-JEPA are randomly initialized while the remaining layers are initialized as pre-trained, our method still yields positive transfers, whereas the competitor method suffer from the negative transfers in this case. Effective energy storage system (ESS) management is critical for enhancing the performance of standalone DC microgrids, particularly when integrating renewable energy sources such as photovoltaic (PV) or wind systems. This research describes a new hybrid control technique to improve DC microgrid operations' efficiency and resiliency, especially when handling critical loads. This research presents a hybrid closed-loop control technique that uses Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Proportional-Integral (PI) controllers to address the complex issues of dynamic load situations and transient disturbances. The RNN evaluates voltage errors to generate accurate reference currents, which the PI controllers then adjust to improve the performance of the bidirectional converter. Unlike standard PI-PI controls, our hybrid approach is particularly effective at regulating pulsed power loads (PPLs) and enhancing system response to transitory situations. The experimental results show that the RNN-PI control scheme significantly improves voltage regulation and transient responsiveness, exceeding conventional performance and resilience techniques. This approach provides a convincing solution for enhancing microgrid systems' stability and efficiency in various real-world applications. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents a communication emulation model for enhancing the efficiency of multi-microgrid (MMG) networks, employing Network Simulator 3 (ns3). MMG systems require robust communication frameworks for coordination, particularly under varying traffic conditions. The introduced model accommodates multiple local area networks (LANs) that support efficient communication across multiple autonomous AC microgrids. The developed model facilitates seamless bidirectional information exchange between the microgrids' local controllers and the MMG control center (MMGCC), employing TCP/IP protocol to ensure high data transmission integrity and low latency. A detailed design in C + is demonstrated, including the configuration of the communication nodes, topology, communication links, and quality of service (QoS) analysis. The network performance is rigorously assessed across low and high traffic conditions, with performance metrics such as throughput, delay, and percentage packet loss at each node. Results confirm the effectiveness of the introduced model in sustaining minimal packet loss, high throughput, and low delays under dynamic operating scenarios. These findings establish the developed model as a viable solution for meeting the real-time communication requirements of MMG energy management systems. © 2025 IEEE.
