The strategic incorporation of oriented steel in a segmented stator AC electric machine has the potential to enhance machine performance by reducing core losses compared to a machine designed with non-oriented steel. However, the introduction of cut-edges and the stress on individual segments resulting from segmented stator construction may have unintended consequences. Despite several attempts to assess the impact of cut-edges or oriented steel on core losses in segmented stators, the literature lacks an analysis of the loss separation between tooth and back-iron components using manufactured stators. This gap in understanding prevents a comprehensive assessment of the true impact of using oriented steel in segmented stator construction for core loss improvement. In this work, the loss of each tooth and back-iron segment is calculated by conducting experiments with three different electromagnetic devices, specifically H-shaped steel laminations. By comparing the results from three manufactured stators, we elucidate the influence of oriented steel in proportion to the segmented stator construction.

Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) is an automated method for generating, manipulating, and modifying valuable and diverse data using AI algorithms creatively. This survey paper focuses on the deployment of AIGC applications, e.g., ChatGPT and Dall-E, at mobile edge networks, namely mobile AIGC networks, that provide personalized and customized AIGC services in real time while maintaining user privacy. We begin by introducing the background and fundamentals of generative models and the lifecycle of AIGC services at mobile AIGC networks, which includes data collection, training, fine-tuning, inference, and product management. We then discuss the collaborative cloud-edge-mobile infrastructure and technologies required to support AIGC services and enable users to access AIGC at mobile edge networks. Furthermore, we explore AIGC-driven creative applications and use cases for mobile AIGC networks. Additionally, we discuss the implementation, security, and privacy challenges of deploying mobile AIGC networks. This paper presents an integrated multiscopic cyber-physical-social system (CPSS) for evaluating physical and cognitive aspects in an independent block-design test (BDT). First, we utilize a hand tracker to extract physical features at the microscopic level, such as hand posture during manipulation. Second, an egocentric vision incorporating an eye tracker describes perceptual representation at the mesoscopic level. This system represents hand-eye coordination by measuring the distance between the hand and the center of visual attention during the test. Thirdly, an upper table vision system uses color feature recognition in each block to evaluate cognition at the macroscopic level. This system detects the blocks and recognizes that the design matches the task given. By evaluating eight designs of WAIS-IV BDT, our system has demonstrated its ability to measure physical and cognitive variables during the BDT successfully. In order to meet the environmental targets, a large scale integration of renewable energy sources (RESs) has been taking place in power systems. Although those sources contribute to more clean energy and help to reduce the green house gasses emissions, they pose significant challenges to the system's stability due to the intermittency and the high level of dependence to the weather conditions. One of the main challenges is to sustain the system's balance and to guarantee the flexibility adequacy. For this purpose, the need for more comprehensive flexibility studies will increase in the future, since different scenarios should be examined according to various level of RESs, demand and weather conditions. In this work, we propose a novel approach for the unit commitment (UC) algorithm that is implemented in the conventional flexibility studies that aims to reduce the computational time and simultaneously sustain the results' accuracy in a satisfactory level. For this scope, we designed a nested-neural network system of two recurrent neural networks with long short-term memory, which are integrated and aim to reproduce the results of the complex conventional UC algorithm. Results show that the predicted insufficient ramping resource expectation of the two solutions are similar, while the computational time is being reduced by almost 99%. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

Generative diffusion models like Stable Diffusion are at the forefront of the thriving field of generative models today, celebrated for their robust training methodologies and high-quality photorealistic generation capabilities. These models excel in producing rich content, establishing them as essential tools in the industry. Building on this foundation, the field has seen the rise of personalized content synthesis as a particularly exciting application. However, the large model sizes and iterative nature of inference make it difficult to deploy personalized diffusion models broadly on local devices with heterogeneous computational power. To address this, we propose a novel framework for efficient multi-user offloading of personalized diffusion models. This framework accommodates a variable number of users, each with different computational capabilities, and adapts to the fluctuating computational resources available on edge servers. To enhance computational efficiency and alleviate the storage burden on edge servers, we propose a tailored multi-user hybrid inference approach. This method splits the inference process for each user into two phases, with an optimizable split point. Initially, a cluster-wide model processes low-level semantic information for each user’s prompt using batching techniques. Subsequently, users employ their personalized models to refine these details during the later phase of inference. Given the constraints on edge server computational resources and users’ preferences for low latency and high accuracy, we model the joint optimization of each user’s offloading request handling and split point as an extension of the Generalized Quadratic Assignment Problem (GQAP). Our objective is to maximize a comprehensive metric that balances both latency and accuracy across all users. The foundation of a country's critical infrastructures (CI), which provide crucial services, is its security, healthcare, and economic systems. By lowering CI's operational costs and associated expenses and enhancing its effectiveness and safety, appropriately functional CI infrastructure plays an essential role in the prosperity of the nations. To do so, businesses that manage CIs frequently combine the Internet of Things (IoT) with Cyber-Physical systems (CPS), such as SCADA systems. SCADA systems were not initially built with web security in mind, exposing CIs open to security risks. National security issues can arise when these technologies are connected to power plants and water treatment facilities. This study aims to demonstrate how security features can be implemented in DNP3-based SCADA infrastructures. By creating a functional configuration and consensus amongst the communicating devices, the DNP3 protocol will support digital signatures. The team proposed a SCADA architecture to accomplish this, making it possible for these systems more secure manner.

KKL Observer Synthesis for Nonlinear systems via Physics-Informed Learning

This paper proposes a novel learning approach for designing Kazantzis-Kravaris/Luenberger (KKL) observers for autonomous nonlinear systems. The design of a KKL observer involves finding an injective map that transforms the system state into a higher-dimensional observer state, whose dynamics is linear and stable. The observer’s state is then mapped back to the original system coordinates via the inverse map to obtain the state estimate. However, finding this transformation and its inverse is quite challenging. We propose to sequentially approximate these maps by neural networks that are trained using physics-informed learning. We generate synthetic data for training by numerically solving the system and observer dynamics. Theoretical guarantees for the robustness of state estimation against approximation error and system uncertainties are provided. Additionally, a systematic method for optimizing observer performance through parameter selection is presented. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through numerical simulations on benchmark examples and its application to sensor fault detection and isolation in a network of Kuramoto oscillators using learned KKL observers. © 2025, CC BY.

In this study,a human-chair model was developed as the basis for a wearable-chair design.A prototype chair,HUST-EC,based on the model was fabricated and *** the optimization under the golden divisional method,an optimized simulation of the operating mode with the lowest chair height was implemented.A novel multi-link support structure has been established with parameters optimized using Matlab *** stress analysis of the solid models was conducted to ensure the adequate support from the designed chair for the *** subjects participated in the evaluation experiment,who performed both static tasks and dynamic *** experimental results consisted of subjective evaluation and objective *** experimental data demonstrate that(1)the HUST-EC can effectively reduce the activation level of related muscles at a variety of tasks;(2)the plantar pressure was reduced by 54%–67%;(3)the angle between the upper body and the vertical axis was reduced by 59%–77%;(4)the subjective scores for chair comfortability,portability,and stability were all higher than *** results further revealed that the designed chair can reduce the musculoskeletal burden and may improve work efficiency.

Exploring Attention-Aware Network Resource Allocation for Customized Metaverse Services

Emerging with the support of computing and communications technologies, Metaverse is expected to bring users unprecedented service experiences. However, the increase in the number of Metaverse users places a heavy demand on network resources, especially for Metaverse services that are based on graphical extended reality and require rendering a plethora of virtual objects. To make efficient use of network resources and improve the Quality-of-Experience (QoE), we design an attention-aware network resource allocation scheme to achieve customized Metaverse services. The aim is to allocate more network resources to virtual objects in which users are more interested. We first discuss several key techniques related to Metaverse services, including QoE analysis, eye-tracking, and remote rendering. We then review existing datasets and propose the user-object-attention level (UOAL) dataset that contains the ground truth attention of 30 users to 96 objects in 1, 000 images. A tutorial on how to use UOAL is presented. With the help of UOAL, we propose an attention-aware network resource allocation algorithm that has two steps, i.e., attention prediction and QoE maximization. Specially, we provide an overview of the designs of two types of attention prediction methods, i.e., interest-aware and time-aware prediction. By using the predicted user-object-attention values, network resources such as the rendering capacity of edge devices can be allocated optimally to maximize the QoE.
