Software-Defined Networking (SDN) decouples the control and data planes, enhancing both network management and programmability. SDN switches in the data plane communicate with controllers, generating controller loads. However, dynamic network load changes can result in controller overloads. Some switches may need to be migrated to other controllers to solve the problem. With the growing focus on energy efficiency in networking, minimizing energy consumption from communications between switches and controllers becomes important. Thus, a load distribution strategy that also accounts for energy consumption is needed. This paper presents the Energy-aware Controller Load Distribution (ECLD) algorithm. It addresses the controller overload issue and aims to reduce the overall energy consumption associated with switch loads. It considers hop counts and energy costs, as well as the effect where a switch migration causes others to migrate to further controllers, increasing energy consumption. Evaluation results indicate that the ECLD algorithm achieves lower energy consumption compared to existing solutions. © 2024 IEEE.

Medical notes contain valuable information about patient conditions, treatments, and progress. Extracting symptoms from these unstructured notes is crucial for clinical research, population health analysis, and decision support systems. Traditional manual methods are time-consuming, but recent advances in natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning offer automated solutions. This article presents a novel approach that combines NLP techniques, such as conditional random fields (CRF) and transformer-based architectures. The proposed method demonstrates effective symptom extraction from medical notes, overcoming challenges such as varied terminologies and linguistic nuances. The study utilizes a dataset of Russian medical records, transforming it into a tabular format for training and employing unique tokenization algorithms for different models. Among the evaluated models, RuBERT achieved the highest accuracy of 91%, indicating its strong performance on the test dataset. SBERT exhibited the highest precision and F1 score, suggesting its effectiveness in accurately identifying specific sequence labels. © 2024 IEEE.

A machine learning approach for skin lesion classification on iOS: implementing and optimizing a convolutional transfer learning model with Create ML

The integration of machine learning (ML) into mobile applications presents unique challenges, particularly in resource-constrained environments such as iOS devices. Skin lesion classification is a critical task in dermatology, where accurate and efficient diagnostic tools can significantly aid in early detection of malignant lesions. This study aims to implement a machine learning-based iOS mobile application and develop a binary classification model for skin lesion images to determine whether a lesion is malignant. The research utilized Create ML to develop a convolutional neural network optimized for iOS, employing a transfer learning approach. A logistic regression model was cascaded with the convolutional neural network N to enhance classification accuracy. The model's performance was assessed through various validation metrics, ensuring its robustness and efficiency within the constraints of mobile hardware. A curated dataset from the International Skin Imaging Collaboration archive was used for training and testing. The model achieved an accuracy of 92%, a precision of 90%, a recall of 93%, and an F1-score of 91% in classifying skin lesions. These metrics validate the model's efficacy in identifying malignant lesions. Data curation involved collecting, labeling, and preparing a dataset from publicly available sources, ensuring the inclusion of diagnostically relevant features. The final model was integrated into an iOS application using Core ML and Vision frameworks. The developed application demonstrates reliable performance in classifying skin lesions with high accuracy on iOS devices. The inclusion of comprehensive performance metrics justifies the efficacy of the proposed approach. Future work will explore enhancements in model architecture and object detection capabilities to further improve diagnostic precision and application usability. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis group.

Mobile devices within Fifth Generation(5G)networks,typically equipped with Android systems,serve as a bridge to connect digital gadgets such as global positioning system,mobile devices,and wireless routers,which are vital in facilitating end-user communication ***,the security of Android systems has been challenged by the sensitive data involved,leading to vulnerabilities in mobile devices used in 5G *** vulnerabilities expose mobile devices to cyber-attacks,primarily resulting from security ***-permission apps in Android can exploit these channels to access sensitive information,including user identities,login credentials,and geolocation *** such attack leverages"zero-permission"sensors like accelerometers and gyroscopes,enabling attackers to gather information about the smartphone's *** underscores the importance of fortifying mobile devices against potential future *** research focuses on a new recurrent neural network prediction model,which has proved highly effective for detecting side-channel attacks in mobile devices in 5G *** conducted state-of-the-art comparative studies to validate our experimental *** results demonstrate that even a small amount of training data can accurately recognize 37.5％of previously unseen user-typed ***,our tap detection mechanism achieves a 92％accuracy rate,a crucial factor for text *** findings have significant practical implications,as they reinforce mobile device security in 5G networks,enhancing user privacy,and data protection.

SightAid: empowering the visually impaired in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) with deep learning-based intelligent wearable vision system

In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, visual impairment poses significant challenges for approximately 17.5% of school-aged children, mainly due to refractive errors. These challenges extend to everyday navigation, environmental interaction, and overall life quality. Motivated by the desire to empower visually impaired individuals, who face navigational limitations, difficulties in object recognition, and inadequate assistance from traditional technologies, we propose SightAid. This innovative wearable vision system utilizes a deep learning-based framework, addressing the gaps left by current assistive solutions. Traditional methods, such as canes and GPS devices, often fail to meet the nuanced and dynamic needs of the visually impaired, especially in accurately identifying objects, understanding complex environments, and providing essential real-time feedback for independent navigation. SightAid comprises a seven-phase framework involving data collection, preprocessing, and training of a sophisticated deep neural network with multiple convolutional and fully connected layers. This system is integrated into smart glasses with augmented reality displays, enabling real-time object detection and recognition. Interaction with users is facilitated through audio or haptic feedback, informing them about the location and type of objects detected. A continuous learning mechanism, incorporating user feedback and new data, ensures the system's ongoing refinement and adaptability. For performance assessment, we utilized the MNIST dataset, and an Indoor Objects Detection dataset tailored for the visually impaired, featuring images of everyday objects crucial for safe indoor navigation. SightAid demonstrates remarkable performance with accuracy up to 0.9874, recall values between 0.98 and 0.99, F1-scores ranging from 0.98 to 0.99, and AUC-ROC values reaching as high as 0.9999. The increasing complexity and connectivity of modern automotive systems have introduced new challenges in ensuring the security and reliability of Controller Area Network (CAN) bus communication. Cyber-attacks on CAN bus networks can lead to severe consequences, including vehicle malfunctions and compromise of passenger safety. As a result, there is a pressing need for efficient and effective anomaly detection mechanisms to identify and mitigate potential security breaches. TThis paper presents a practical anomaly detection approach that harnesses the capabilities of autoencoders and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks to fortify CAN bus cybersecurity with a focus on real-world implementation. The proposed method leverages the autoencoder's ability to learn the normal behavior of the CAN bus traffic and identify deviations from it, while the LSTM architecture provides temporal sequence modeling to capture dynamic patterns in the data. © 2023 IEEE.
