Purpose: The objectives of this study were to create a device with technological development of the self-inflating bag (SIB) equipment to measure the variables tidal volume, peak inspiratory pressure, and inspiratory flow and to evaluate the knowledge of undergraduate students in handling the SIB. To reduce the risks of mortality, length of hospital stay, and infections, SIB is a resource used to ventilate the patient through the inflation of the device, but it is not capable of measuring the ventilatory parameters. Excess ventilation and incorrect handling of the bag can cause lung injury in newborns. Therefore, measuring these parameters can prevent lung injury resulting from inadequate ventilation. Method: This is a cross-sectional and experimental study, with the development of a device SIB that allows the evaluation of variables of neonatal respiratory mechanics that were tested with an artificial lung. It was approved by the Research Ethics Committee and the research was developed in three stages: the first represents the search for scientific articles for the consensus of neonatal ventilatory variables for the construction of the SIB parameters;the second stage depicts the technological development of a device capable of monitoring such variables through the SIB. In the third stage, the content validation of the device with the handling of the SIB was carried out by students of medicine and physiotherapy courses of Brazil. Results: In this work, a device that analyzes the values of the main ventilatory parameters in neonatology was developed and to generate a safety range for the use of the device, curves with a tolerance of 10% up and down were created. All electronic components were coupled to the equipment, with a display that transmits the parameter values. Maintaining railway tracks in healthy conditions is critical to ensuring the safe operation of railroad transportation. According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), nearly 23% of train accidents that occurred between 2015 to 2020 were due to the defects of the tracks. In an effort to prevent such accidents, railway companies regularly inspect tracks to detect and fix defects of track systems. This research proposes an innovative method for conducting railroad track inspection to enhance the maintenance operation. The proposed approach aims to overcome the existing inspection practices based on human observation that is costly, time-consuming, and error prone. To this end, the proposed method utilizes computer vision methodologies to achieve high-level automation and accuracy of defect detection through the analysis of digital images. The outcome of this study is envisioned to help railway companies perform predictive maintenance more effectively and, thereby, reduce the risk of train accidents and increase the resiliency of their assets. © 2021 IISE Annual Conference and Expo 2021. Due to the great advance in machine learning (ML) techniques, numerous ML models are expanding their application domains in recent years. To adapt for resource-constrained platforms such as mobile and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, pre-trained models are often processed to enhance their efficiency and compactness, using optimization techniques such as pruning and quantization. Similar to the optimization process in other complex systems, e.g., program compilers and databases, optimizations for ML models can contain bugs, leading to severe consequences such as system crashes and financial loss. While bugs in training, compiling and deployment stages have been extensively studied, there is still a lack of systematic understanding and characterization of model optimization bugs (MOBs). In this work, we conduct the first empirical study to identify and characterize MOBs. We collect a comprehensive dataset containing 371 MOBs from TensorFlow and PyTorch, the most extensively used open-source ML frameworks, covering the entire development time span of their optimizers (May 2019 to August 2022). We then investigate the collected bugs from various perspectives, including their symptoms, root causes, life cycles, detection and fixes. Our work unveils the status quo of MOBs in the wild, and reveals their features on which future detection techniques can be based. Our findings also serve as a warning to the developers and the users of ML frameworks, and an appeal to our research community to enact dedicated countermeasures.

Interest in artificial intelligence (AI)-driven crowd work has increased during the last few years as a line of inquiry that expands upon prior research on microtasking to represent a means of scaling up complex tasks through AI mediation. Despite the increasing attention to the macrotask phenomenon in crowdsourcing, there is a need to understand the processes, elements, and constraints underlying the infrastructural and behavioral aspects in such form of crowd work when involving collaboration. To this end, this paper provides a first attempt to characterize some of the research conducted in this direction to identify important paths for an agenda comprising key drivers, challenges, and prospects for integrating human-centered AI in collaborative crowdsourcing environments.

The smart cities concept is strongly related to energy efficiency and low carbon patterns, what that refers to meeting the sustainability criteria established by regulatory mechanisms. The Smart City Index (SCI) data can reach a higher quality of living by observing aspects as mobility, health, safety, transparency, smart management, and many others, like the waste management. Thus, this set of indicators was used to evaluate the e-waste management as an emergent challenge in urban cities, providing both, the generation of waste from the intense consumption of electronic devices, as well meeting the questions arising from urbanization from the integration of digital solutions. This study proposes a model of analysis using simple linear regression and k-mean clustering as correlation methods. The findings suggested correlation between the SCI ranking, the E-waste generated, and the economic situation of the entire set of smart cities. Nevertheless, it was found weak correlation for the best rated cities. The results provided the perception that it is possible to identify correlation from the Smart City Index and aspects from the e-waste management system, enabling the discussion over the importance of next smart city indexes and given a new perspective to the e-waste management. © 2021 IEEE.

This study presents non-invasive subject specific analysis using innovative tools from dynamic systems theory and image processing for sagittal plane anatomical marker tracking and digital filtering for detection of normalized phase differences of lower limb joint angular displacement and angular velocity coordination during long and short countermovement (CM) and muscle stretch-shortening cycle. Applied metrics captured at low-dimensional level (one variable - the phase) differences of CM neuromuscular control of lower limb joint coordination with greater dissimilarity between long and short CM, whereas no CM condition shares higher phase coordination at the hip, knee, ankle.

Enhancement of superconductivity in the Fibonacci chain

We study the interplay between quasiperiodic disorder and superconductivity in a one-dimensional tight-binding model with the quasiperiodic modulation of on-site energies that follow the Fibonacci rule, and all the eigenstates are multifractal. As a signature of multifractality, we observe the power-law dependence of the correlation between different single-particle eigenstates as a function of their energy difference. We numerically compute the mean-field superconducting transition temperature for every realization of a Fibonacci chain of a given size and find the distribution of critical temperatures, analyze their statistics, and estimate the mean value and variance of critical temperatures for various regimes of the attractive coupling strength and quasiperiodic disorder. We find an enhancement of the critical temperature compared to the analytical results that are based on strong assumptions of the absence of correlations and self-averaging of multiple characteristics of the system, which are not justified for the Fibonacci chain. For the very weak coupling regime, we observe a crossover where the self-averaging of the critical temperature breaks down completely and strong sample-to-sample fluctuations emerge.

Cell-free massive MIMO systems are currently being considered as potential enablers of future (6G) technologies for wireless communications. By combining distributed processing and massive MIMO, they are expected to deliver improved user coverage and efficiency. A possible source of performance degradation in such systems is pilot contamination, which contributes to causing interference during uplink training and affects channel estimation negatively. Contamination occurs when the same pilot sequence is assigned to more than one user. This is in general inevitable, as the number of mutually orthogonal pilot sequences corresponds to only a fraction of the coherence interval. We introduce a new algorithm for pilot assignment and analyze its performance both from a theoretical perspective and in computational experiments. We show that it has an approximation ratio close to 1 for a plausibly large number of orthogonal pilot sequences, as well as low computational complexity under massive parallelism. We also show that, on average, it outperforms other methods in terms of per-user SINR and throughput on the uplink. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we introduce a new method that first utilizes 3D Gaussian splatting in street-level localization problem. Robust localization with street-level real-world images such as street view is a major issue for autonomous vehicle, augmented reality (AR) navigation, and outdoor mobile robots. The objective is to determine the position and orientation of a query image that matches a street view database composed of RGB images. However, given the limited information available in the street view images, accurately determining the location solely based on this data presents a significant challenge. To address this challenge, we propose a novel method called renderable street view map-based localization (RSM-Loc). This approach enhances the localization process by augmenting 2D street view images into a renderable 3D map using 3D Gaussian splatting, to resolve street-level localization problems. Upon receiving a query RGB image without geometry information, the proposed method renders 2D images from a pre-made renderable map and compares image pose similarities between the rendered images and the query image. Through iterations of this process, the proposed method eventually estimates the pose of the given query image. The experimental results demonstrate that RSM-Loc outperforms the baselines with neural-field-based localization. Additionally, we conduct deep analysis on the proposed method to show that our method can serve as a new concept for the street-level localization problem.

Sports Science is an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary science that strives to increase athletic performance and endurance. Sport Science recognizes and prevents injuries. Sensors and statistics formalize Sports Science. Runners need coaches and teams to support them before, during, and after the run race. Coaches generate running training plans to boost performance. Running race performances may be impacted by air pollution exposure while training, so coaches should consider limiting air pollution exposure when training. One of the external factors is Particulate Matter (PM 2.5 and PM 10 ). Sensors connecting to the Internet can record external factors and produce csv data. The foundation of supervised machine learning is the labeling process. Labeling a set of data is one of the laborious and time-consuming phases in every machine-learning application because it requires verifying the accuracy of the labels and making any necessary revisions. This research aimed to find a solution to automatically label numerous air particulate matter raw data using a rule based on parameters to reduce manual work, human errors and faster processes. This labeled data will later be used for supervised machine learning classification to support the coach in generating training programs for the runners in a Sports Information System. Based on Indonesia Air Quality index rule-based approach, labeled text data in csv has been generated and tested with PM 2.5 and PM 10 parameters in three scenarios with a 100% success rate. It was possible to automate the labeling process, and it explained how automation results in fast and accurate results.
