Cancers have emerged as a significant concern due to their impact on public health and society. The examination and interpretation of tissue sections stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) play a crucial role in disease assessment, particularly in cases like gastric cancer. Microsatellite instability (MSI) is suggested to contribute to the carcinogenesis of specific gastrointestinal tumors. However, due to the nonspecific morphology observed in H&E-stained tissue sections, MSI determination often requires costly evaluations through various molecular studies and immunohistochemistry methods in specialized molecular pathology laboratories. Despite the high cost, international guidelines recommend MSI testing for gastrointestinal cancers. Thus, there is a pressing need for a new diagnostic modality with lower costs and widespread applicability for MSI detection. This study aims to detect MSI directly from H&E histology slides in gastric cancer, providing a cost-effective alternative. The performance of well-known deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) and a proposed architecture are compared. Medical image datasets are typically smaller than benchmark datasets like ImageNet, necessitating the use of off-the-shelf DCNN architectures developed for large datasets through techniques such as transfer learning. Designing an architecture proportional to a custom dataset can be tedious and may not yield desirable results. In this work, we propose an automatic method to extract a lightweight and efficient architecture from a given heavy architecture (e.g., well-known off-the-shelf DCNNs) proportional to a specific dataset. To predict MSI instability, we extracted the MicroNet architecture from the Xception network using the proposed method and compared its performance with other well-known architectures. Recent advancements in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), has allowed their deployment for numerous applications like aerial photography, infrastructure inspection, search and rescue, and surveillance. Despite the potential for full autonomy, many applications still necessitate human operators for navigating complex environments and decision-making. Existing solutions often employ high-precision and simple sensors like 2-D or 3-D LiDAR, which may provide more data than necessary and contribute to increased system complexity and cost. To address these challenges and bridge the gap between full autonomy and human-controlled UAVs, this work develops a shared-autonomy framework for UAVs, leveraging lightweight, low-cost 1-D LiDAR sensors combined with mobility behaviors to obtain performance comparable to more advanced 2-D/3-D LiDAR sensors while minimizing energy, computation overhead, and weight. Our framework includes a novel state machine method that exploits the UAV mobility to compensate for the limitations of 1-D LiDAR sensors, ensuring safety and obstacle avoidance through a physics-based algorithm that transitions between teleoperation and autonomous mode as needed based on environmental conditions and safety-critical issues. Experimental validations on real UAVs demonstrates the effectiveness of this shared autonomy scheme in complex environments, and the system is further generalized to larger UAVs and prototyped with a custom sensor configuration and onboard obstacle avoidance. © 2023 IEEE.

Evaluation is a process that compares the results with the target, an initial situation with the final one. ‘Evaluate’ means making an assessment based on some measure or information and referring to some criteria. The Formative evaluation is a process which is used by trainers and trainees and provides feedback on updating current teaching and learning methods in order to improve trainer’s achievement in relation of teaching goals. In this case study a research was carried out using the technique of formative evaluation in order to evaluate two thematic areas with the cooperation of the program’s leaders. The aim of the study was to extract conclusions and opinions about the program’s value, the achievement goals and the organisation implementation requirements and how all this results will been feed backed to program managers and policymakers with the appropriate information which are necessary to adopt appropriate corrective interventions for programs quality improvement. Nowadays, information and knowledge represent the fundamental wealth of an organisation. Enterprises try to utilise this wealth to gain advantage when making decisions such as a project’s acceptance. After a project finishes, a quality management plan defines its quality level. The business intelligence theories help the individual to evaluate the proposed plan in order to target the project’s results. But, do all the evaluation methods have the same reliability? We check the project’s quality by using paper and online questionnaire administration. Although the scope is the same, there are differences, giving different results. So, we intelligently investigated the quality of the university educational process. The results show that the administration method has a significant effect on overall results. Thus, the quality check of a project using questionnaires needs to have an attentive design, avoid points that introduce uncertainties and able to show the real opinion of the respondents. Recently, omnidirectional wireless power transfer (WPT) has gained widespread popularity since 2010s especially in consumer electronics application benefiting from ease of integration with furniture. In such applications, angular misalignment occurs frequently. Obviously, it will affect the stable operation of system significantly. However, the coil optimization is not investigated accurately. In other words, the modelling and effects under angular misalignment are not investigated completely. Targeting at this, this article proposes a planar omnidirectional wireless power transfer system with three sets of planar coils. Afterwards, the modelling process is conducted for the planar omnidirectional WPT system under angular misalignment and Ns effect is investigated. Afterwards, the coil optimization is conducted to increase its usability in real applications. Finally in the experiment, three sets of coils are fabricated and the transfer efficiency are measured under orientation and angular misalignment at 6.78MHz. When charging the mobile phone and electronic watch receivers, the overall efficiency is 69%-78% and 55%-65%, considering the orientation and angular misalignment. © 2024 IEEE.

Deep neural networks (DNN) have reached impressive performance in computer vision, making them a natural choice for object detection problems in automated driving. However, DNNs used for object detection are known to be highly vulnerable to adversarial attacks. Even small changes to the input such as adding a customized noise pattern that remains invisible to the human eye, can stimulate silent prediction errors. In this study, we present a compositional simulation framework for testing the adversarial robustness of DNNs used in object detection. Versatile Video Coding (H.266/VVC) is the newest video coding standard jointly developed by the Joint Video Experts Team (JVET), which is organized by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group (VCEG) and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). H.266/VVC provides about 40% bitrate reduction compared with High Efficiency Video Coding (H.265/HEVC) for the same visual quality. This paper introduces in detail the core structure of H.266/VVC by highlighting its features within block partitioning structure, intra/inter prediction, transform, quantization, and in-loop filtering, compared to its predecessor (H.265/HEVC). H.266/VVC yields significantly improved the coding performance, but it increased the computational complexity, particularly for the encoder side, which remains a problem to be tackled for successful commercialization in the future. This paper examined the statistical performance of H.266/VVC coding tools from the bitstreams encoded by the VVC test model (VTM12.0) encoder through rate-distortion optimization under the JVET common test conditions. In addition, the complexity and performance analyses are conducted on the block partitioning structure and group of picture structure. It is expected that an optimized H.266/VVC encoder can be designed and developed by minimizing the coding loss based on the analysis data. © 2023 Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers. Large-scale manufacturing facilities and power plants comprise numerous subsystems that require consistent monitoring and inspection to ensure reliable and secure operations. The use of multiple robotic systems is an expanding, robust, and cost-effective solution for such operations. To enable automated infrastructure monitoring, there are many challenges, such as path planning and task allocation for multiple robots and dynamic constraints. We formulate such challenges as a multiple Traveling Salesman Problem (mTSP) and propose an efficient task assignment solution that uses an evolutionary algorithm considering priority, energy, and time constraints. Our solution incorporates: A digital twin of a monitored environment, A? and artificial potential field methods for path planning and navigation, and human-in-The-loop prioritization. We validate the proposed method with state-of-The-Art simulations in Gazebo/ROS for unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) in cluttered environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Considering the carbon footprint of rapidly evolving quantum systems and technologies, it is essential to develop energy efficient and sustainable next generation quantum communication systems. Simultaneous Lightwave Information and Power Transfer (SLIPT) enables the transfer of power and information from a transmitter to a receiver through light waves in the infrared (IR) and visible portions of the electro-magnetic spectrum. In this work, the authors propose QKD-featured, SLIPT-enabled (QuIPT) quantum communication hybrid receiver architectures. Specifically, the authors present simplified green QKD receiver architectures integrating free space QKD and SLIPT. The proposed system is useful for developing QKD-featured autonomous quantum Internet of Light Things (QIoLT). The simplified architecture comprises two key modules: the QKD-decryption and decoding module and the energy harvesting subsystem module. Finally, the authors present additional remarks on extending the architectures to include radio frequency based energy harvesting (RFbEH) modules for superior performance. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper analyses an electrification strategy for a depot for a public transport company, through an optimized model. The case study analyses both the transition of a depot able to host 10 buses towards e-buses and proposes the integration of a micro-grid, powered by PV panels to power the e-buses in a sustainable way. The study addresses key challenges such as spatial constraints, passenger demand, and financial considerations, through a Genetic Algorithm (GA). The analysis encompasses two scenarios: a mixed fleet of electric and diesel buses and an exclusive focus on e-buses. The study highlights the importance of considering both electric and diesel buses in fleet optimization, and combined with renewables emphasize the advantages of operational flexibility and sustainability. Thanks to the implementation of a micro-grid capable of providing 1123.87 kWh/day to power the e-buses as much as possible. © 2024 The Authors.
