This paper studies the Partial Optimal Transport (POT) problem between two unbalanced measures with at most n supports and its applications in various AI tasks such as color transfer or domain adaptation. There is hence a need for fast approximations of POT with increasingly large problem sizes in arising applications. We first theoretically and experimentally investigate the infeasibility of the state-of-the-art Sinkhorn algorithm for POT, which consequently degrades its qualitative performance in real world applications like point-cloud registration. To this end, we propose a novel rounding algorithm for POT, and then provide a feasible Sinkhorn procedure with a revised computation complexity of Oe(n2/Ε4). Our rounding algorithm also permits the development of two first-order methods to approximate the POT problem. The first algorithm, Adaptive Primal-Dual Accelerated Gradient Descent (APDAGD), finds an Ε-approximate solution to the POT problem in Oe(n2.5/Ε). The second method, Dual Extrapolation, achieves the computation complexity of Oe(n2/Ε), thereby being the best in the literature. We further demonstrate the flexibility of POT compared to standard OT as well as the practicality of our algorithms on real applications where two marginal distributions are unbalanced. In this paper, we discuss an IEEE 754 compliant normalized floating-point divide and square root unit that utilizes iterative approximation. We provide a robust architecture that allows multiple formats and all IEEE 754 rounding modes while still exhibiting high-performance. Moreover, we also adhere to the IEEE 754 2019 standard and demonstrate methods for rounding results to all five rounding modes using iterative approximation. Performance, Power, and Area estimates are determined from physical synthesis using ARM-based standard cells in a TSMC 28nm process. This paper also presents comparisons versus other implementations and demonstrates the efficient of the approach presented here. © 2025 IEEE.

The shift towards the renewable energy market for carbon-neutral power generation has encouraged different governments to come up with a plan of *** with the endorsement of renewable energy for harsh environmental conditions like sand dust and snow,monitoring and maintenance are a few of the prime *** problems were addressed widely in the literature,but most of the research has drawbacks due to long detection time,and high misclassification *** to overcome these drawbacks,and to develop an accurate monitoring approach,this paper is motivated toward the understanding of primary failure concerning a grid-connected photovoltaic(PV)system and highlighted along with a brief overview on existing fault detection *** on the drawback a data-driven machine learning approach has been used for the identification of fault and indicating the maintenance unit regarding the operation and maintenance ***,the system was tested with a 4 kWp grid-connected PV system,and a decision tree-based algorithm was developed for the identification of a *** results identified 94.7%training accuracy and 14000 observations/sec prediction speed for the trained classifier and improved the reliability of fault detection nature of the grid-connected PV operation.

Purpose: Colour fundus images are widely used in diagnosis treatment decision of several retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy (DR), glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). These very common conditions must be detected early and monitored to prevent progression and avoid permanent damage. Fundus images revealed to be useful also for the diagnosis of cataracts. In recent years, various automatic diagnostic support methods have been proposed in the literature, with the aim of facilitating widespread screening and obtaining quantitative, objective, and reproducible information. Methods: In this review paper, an overview of traditional, machine learning and modern deep learning techniques for ophthalmic disease diagnosis (i.e. glaucoma, DR, AMD, and cataract) using retinal fundus images is presented. In addition, various publicly available image datasets used for such purposes are described. Results: The current main challenges and findings are identified, as well as common aspects and discrepancies between the various methods developed for the various diseases. Conclusion: The overview of what has been done about all pathologies, rather than only on a specific one, could favour a migration of the best solutions and, hopefully, the development of a more precise and clinically useful automatic analysis of all pathologies. Important critical insights and research trends are also discussed. Full-duplex communications have the potential to double the spectral efficiency. Self-interference hinders the realization of full-duplex communications, thus significant suppression needs to be achieved to enable simultaneous transmit and receive. This paper presents a digitally-assisted analog self-interference cancellation by pre-coding a cancellation waveform on an auxiliary transmitter using a modified copy of the transmitted signal. Over 30 dB self-interference cancellation has been achieved over a bandwidth of 20 MHz.

A 2.2-3.6 GHz CMOS Reconfigurable Fourth-Order Bandpass Filter With Compact Size and High Selectivity Using Transformer-Type Resonators

A compact reconfigurable CMOS bandpass filter (BPF) with high selectivity is proposed using transformer-type resonators in this article. The transformer-type resonator is constructed by a transformer loaded with parallel varactors for frequency tuning, and two varactors are then added across primary wind and secondary wind for coupling tuning. With the transformer-type structure, one resonator is formed inside another resonator, thus fully utilizing the chip area and resulting in a miniaturized structure. Magnetic and electrical couplings are formed within the transformer-type resonator and facilitate the bandwidth (BW) tuning. The quality factor (Q) of each resonator is improved by cross-coupled negative resistance structure. Meanwhile, two pairs of transformer-type resonators are placed side-by-side and naturally form a quadruplet structure;as a result, two transmission zeros (TZs) are introduced at each side of the passband thus significantly improving the selectivity and stopband rejection of the BPF. The proposed tunable on-chip BPF is manufactured by a commercial 55 nm bulk CMOS technology with a core area of 1.48 × 0.54 mm2. The filter center frequency (CF) can be tuned from 2.2 to 3.6 GHz, while the 3 dB fractional BW (FBW) can be tuned from 14% to 33%. The shape factor of the proposed filter is 1.4-1.9. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

D-STAR: Dual Simultaneously Transmitting and Reflecting Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces for Joint Uplink/Downlink Transmission

The joint uplink/downlink (JUD) design of simultaneously transmitting and reflecting reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (STAR-RIS) is conceived in support of both uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) users. Furthermore, the dual STAR-RISs (D-STAR) concept is conceived as a promising architecture for 360-degree full-plane service coverage, including UL/DL users located between the base station (BS) and the D-STAR as well as beyond. The corresponding regions are termed as primary (P) and secondary (S) regions. Both BS/users exist in the P-region, but only users are located in the S-region. The primary STAR-RIS (STAR-P) plays an important role in terms of tackling the P-region inter-user interference, the self-interference (SI) from the BS and from the reflective as well as refractive UL users imposed on the DL receiver. By contrast, the secondary STAR-RIS (STAR-S) aims for mitigating the S-region interferences. The non-linear and non-convex rate-maximization problem formulated is solved by alternating optimization amongst the decomposed convex sub-problems of the BS beamformer, and the D-STAR amplitude as well as phase shift configurations. We also propose a D-STAR based active beamforming and passive STAR-RIS amplitude/phase (DBAP) optimization scheme to solve the respective sub-problems by Lagrange dual with Dinkelbach's transformation, alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) with successive convex approximation (SCA), and penalty convex-concave procedure (PCCP). Our simulation results reveal that the proposed D-STAR architecture outperforms the conventional single RIS, single STAR-RIS, and half-duplex networks. The proposed DBAP of D-STAR outperforms the state-of-the-art solutions found in the open literature for different numbers of quantization levels, geographic deployment, transmit power and for diverse numbers of transmit antennas, patch partitions as well as D-STAR elements. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

Grid-Induced ground currents occur when line-imbalances flow into the earth, creating a form of man-made telluric current. At the soil surface, a 2-dimensional, directional current density exists which follows the time varying load profile of the local power distribution system. When a fault occurs (either line-to-line or line-to-ground), a perturbation can be observed in the differential voltages measured in the soil, making grid-induced telluric currents a unique and mostly unexplored candidate for non-contact grid monitoring and fault detection. The directional nature of the induced telluric current provides information that can be used to localize a power-grid fault. Presented here is a non-invasive sensing technique that allows direct measurements of a substation's load profile at a distance of 0.8 kilometers. Identification of the direction of the induced current in the soil is explored. A discussion on the sensor's positional sensitivity is given. © 2023 IEEE.

Resource allocation and multiple access schemes are instrumental for the success of communication networks, which facilitate seamless wireless connectivity among a growing population of uncoordinated and non-synchronized users. In this paper, we present a novel random access scheme that addresses one of the most severe barriers of current strategies to achieve massive connectivity and ultra reliable and low latency communications for 6G. The proposed scheme utilizes wireless channels’ angular continuous group-sparsity feature to provide low latency, high reliability, and massive access features in the face of limited time-bandwidth resources, asynchronous transmissions, and preamble errors. Specifically, a reconstruction-free goal oriented optimization problem is proposed which preserves the angular information of active devices and is then complemented by a clustering algorithm to assign active users to specific groups. This allows to identify active stationary devices according to their line of sight angles. Additionally, for mobile devices, an alternating minimization algorithm is proposed to recover their preamble, data, and channel gains simultaneously, enabling the identification of active mobile users. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides excellent performance and supports a massive number of devices. Moreover, the performance of the proposed scheme is independent of the total number of devices, distinguishing it from other random access schemes. The proposed method provides a unified solution to meet the requirements of machine-type communications and ultra reliable and low latency communications, making it an important contribution to the emerging 6G networks. © 2023 IFIP.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are efficient tools for pattern recognition applications. They have found applications in wireless communication systems such as modulation classification from constellation diagrams. Unfortunately, noisy channels may render the constellation points deformed and scattered, which makes the classification a difficult task. This paper presents an efficient modulation classification algorithm based on CNNs. Constellation diagrams are generated for each modulation type and used for training and testing of the CNNs. The proposed work depends on the application of Radon Transform (RT) to generate more representative patterns for the constellation diagrams to be used for training and testing. The RT has a good ability to represent discrete points in the spatial domain as curved lines. Several pre-trained networks including AlexNet, VGG-16, and VGG-19 are used as classifiers for modulation type from the spatial-domain constellation diagrams or their RTs. Several simulation experiments are presented in this paper to compare different scenarios for modulation classification at different Signal-to-Noise Ratios (SNRs) and fading channel conditions. © 2022, The Author(s).
