This paper examines the incorporation of DNA testing into intelligent education systems to develop customized learning plans that respond to the specific needs of each student. Through the examination of distinct genetic indicators associated with personality traits, talent, and inborn abilities, educators can formulate approaches that optimize academic achievement and boost the overall welfare of students. This approach not only enhances learning outcomes but also promotes a supportive and inclusive educational environment. The study critically examines the present state of literature regarding the correlation between genetics and learning. It digs into the ethical implications surrounding this topic and shows case studies that provide evidence of the effectiveness of teaching methods informed by DNA analysis. The results underscore the capacity of DNA testing to transform education by enhancing its adaptability and responsiveness to the distinct genetic composition of individual students. Codes for correcting sticky insertions/deletions and limited-magnitude errors have attracted significant attention due to their applications of flash memories, racetrack memories, and DNA data storage systems. In this paper, we first consider the error type of t sticky deletions with l-limited-magnitude and propose a non-systematic code for correcting this type of error with redundancy 2t(1 - 1/p) • log(n + 1) + O(1), where p is the smallest prime larger than l + 1. Cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communications is an enabling technology to transmit control signaling or payload data for UAVs through cellular networks. Due to the line-of-sight dominant air-to-ground channels, efficient interference mitigation is crucial to UAV communications, while the conventional fixed-position antenna (FPA) arrays have limited degrees of freedom to suppress the interference between the UAV and its non-associated co-channel base stations (BSs). To address this challenge, we propose in this letter a new approach by utilizing the six-dimensional movable antenna (6DMA) arrays to enhance the interference mitigation for the UAV. Specifically, we propose an efficient block coordinate descent algorithm to iteratively optimize the antenna position vector, array rotation vector, receive beamforming vector, and associated BS of the UAV to maximize its signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio. Numerical results show that the proposed 6DMA enhanced cellular-connected UAV communication can significantly outperform that with the traditional FPA arrays and other benchmark schemes in terms of interference mitigation. © 2025 IEEE. Ingestible capsules have the potential to become an attractive alternative to traditional means of treating and detecting gastrointestinal(GI)*** device complexity increases,so too does the demand for more effective capsule packaging technologies to elegantly target specific GI *** pH-responsive coatings have been traditionally used for the passive targeting of specific GI regions,their application is limited due to the geometric restrictions imposed by standard coating ***,pan,and spray coating methods only enable the protection of microscale unsupported openings against the harsh GI ***,some emerging technologies have millimeter-scale components for performing functions such as sensing and drug *** this end,we present the freestanding region-responsive bilayer(FRRB),a packaging technology for ingestible capsules that can be readily applied for various functional ingestible capsule *** bilayer is composed of rigid polyethylene glycol(PEG)under a flexible pH-responsive Eudragit®FL 30 D 55,which protects the contents of the capsule until it arrives in the targeted intestinal *** FRRB can be fabricated in a multitude of shapes that facilitate various functional packaging mechanisms,some of which are demonstrated *** this paper,we characterize and validate the use of this technology in a simulated intestinal environment,confirming that the FRRB can be tuned for small intestinal *** also show a case example where the FRRB is used to protect and expose a thermomechanical actuator for targeted drug delivery.

Considering potential threats to cyber-physical systems such as component faults and stealthy cyber-attacks, an adaptive observer-based threat discrimination method is proposed for identifying the occurring threat type. Typically, stealthy attacks have only weak effects easily obscured by disturbances on the system outputs. To solve this problem, a parameter adaptation algorithm based on a newly designed dynamic adaptive gain generator is proposed, aiming at improving the sensitivity of the adaptive threat discrimination scheme to potential threats. Only the strictly positive real condition of the proposed gain generator sufficiently ensures the stability of the adaptive observer error system. A moment-matching method is then developed to determine the proper parameters of the gain generator, allowing for the improvement of the sensitivity of the threat discriminators. A numerical example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology is presented. © 2024 IEEE.

Future satellite networks are expected to have thousands of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites orbiting Earth at very high speeds. User equipment (UE) communicating directly with LEO satellites will experience frequent handovers. Managing the handover process is complicated due to the high frequency of handovers and the availability of multiple LEO satellites as handover targets. In addition, as the status of the communication link between a UE and an LEO satellite varies in accordance with the visibility period of the satellite, initiating handovers at the right time will significantly affect the quality of service (QoS) of the communication provided. To address this problem, this work proposes a graph-based customizable handover framework that considers both the handover timing and target while selecting a handover sequence that maintains QoS. A time-based graph is designed where the vertices represent the satellites' instances over a certain period of time and the edges' weights are the customizable handover criteria (i.e., data rate and delay in this work). The appropriate sequence and timing of handovers that fulfill the required QoS are obtained by finding the shortest path in the graph. Discussion and simulations, which were conducted on the Starlink Phase I constellation, show the low complexity and performance advantages of the proposed handover framework. © 2022 IEEE.

Satellite communication systems encounter channel aging issues due to the substantial distance that separates users and satellites. In such systems, the estimated channel state at a given time slot reflects the channel state from several time slots in the past. This letter proposes a long short-term memory (LSTM)-based architecture for channel prediction to mitigate the channel aging problem. The proposed scheme predicts the next time slot's channel based on a block of estimated channel state information (CSI) from previous time slots. We consider the effect of channel aging in the training phase so that channel prediction in the testing phase is performed based on available data. We demonstrated through simulation experiments on new radio non-terrestrial network tapped delay line (NR NTN TDL) channel models, that our proposed scheme can effectively mitigate channel aging, and that it performs better than outdated channels. The proposed scheme improves the reliability and efficiency of satellite communication systems with long propagation delays. © 2019 IEEE.

Lung segmentation supports essential functionality within the realm of computer-aided detection and diagnosis using chest radiographs. In this research, we present a novel bifurcation approach of segmenting the lungs by separating them down the spinal column and having separate networks for the right and the left lungs respectively. Results from the right lung and left lung networks are then merged to form the overall lung. We utilize DeepLabV3+ network with ResNet50 as the backbone for both left and right lung networks. Results are presented for publicly available datasets such as Shenzhen Dataset and Japanese Society of Radiological Technology (JSRT) dataset. Our proposed bifurcation approach achieved an overall accuracy of 98.8% and an IoU (Intersection over Union) of 0.977 for a set of 100 cases in Shenzhen dataset. We conducted an additional robustness study of this method by training and testing on an independent dataset utilizing a hold-out methodology. We utilize a private dataset for the training and testing occurs on an independent JSRT dataset comprising 140 cases and our algorithm achieved an overall IoU of 0.945 thereby demonstrating its efficacy against other whole lung models and setting a new benchmark for future research works. © 2024 SPIE.

Driver fatigue is a significant cause of road accidents. Effective real-time fatigue detection systems are necessary to improve road safety. Utilizing a lightweight and fast model and creating an effective fatigue judgment rule is important in detecting fatigue in real-time. In this research, we propose a fatigue detection model based on You Look Only Once version 8 (YOLOv8) model to detect driver's facial features and use percentage of eyelid closure over the pupil over time (PERCLOS) and Percentage of Open Mouth (POM) indicators to identify fatigue. This research is divided into two parts. The first part involves creating, labeling, and preprocessing the dataset. We use the YawDD dataset as the original dataset and manually label a new dataset using the Roboflow platform. We then preprocessed the new dataset to train the YOLOv8 model for face features detection. In the second part, we established a multi-indicator fatigue determination rule that uses PERCLOS and POM indicators and set a threshold to determine whether the driver is fatigue. By combining the YOLOv8 model with the fatigue determination rules based on PERCLOS and POM, we successfully built a model to identify a driver's fatigue. Finally, the fatigue detection model based on YOLOv8 achieves a high accuracy rate of 96.9% and a high speed of 11.4 ms/frame in face features detection, surpassing other traditional models and previous generations of YOLO models. This model can effectively detect fatigue in both driver-driving pictures and videos. © 2023 IEEE.
