Modern grid codes for interconnection of distributed energy resources have become more restrictive due to the massive integration of renewable energy sources. The interconnected renewable energy sources must operate accurately under normal and abnormal grid conditions in order to meet the grid requirements. In addition, the renewable energy systems require fault ride through capability in order to support the power grid under balanced or unbalanced low voltage grid faults. Therefore, the development of advanced current controller techniques is essential for the grid side power electronic converters in order to increase the renewable energy systems penetration and satisfy the grid codes. This paper proposes a current controller technique, which enables the appropriate operation of the grid side converter under unbalanced grid faults and harmonic distorted grid conditions. The proposed current controller is designed using multiple synchronous reference frames and can inject full positive or full negative sequence balanced sinusoidal currents under abnormal grid conditions. The accurate performance with robustness against unbalanced and harmonic distorted grid voltage indicates that the proposed current controller can be a useful tool in the fault ride through control of renewable energy systems.

This study examines the impact of 18 hardware Trojans inserted into an AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) cryptographic circuit in terms of area, leakage power, and dynamic power. These Trojans were supplied from the Trust-HUB repository. This study was performed by first synthesizing the designs to 90-nm and 45-nm standard cell libraries. Then, those designs were compared to the Trojan-free circuit synthesized to the corresponding technology. All of these Trojans had very small footprints on the design in terms of area and power. Furthermore, despite all of the Trojans leaking the key in some way, the measured footprints fell over a wide range.

This paper describes the implementation of a sub-sumption architecture by using Model Driven Development in a real-time physical platform. The behaviours are implemented as finite state-machines and are guaranteed to be executed in real-time while avoiding deadlocks. The platform used is compatible with Robot Operating System, which is becoming the de facto standard for robotics applications nowadays. The sensors used for supporting the behaviours implemented are a Light Detection and Ranging and an Inertial Measurement Unit. The main contribution of this paper is in experimentally demonstrating a functional implementation, using Model Driven Development, of a multi-layer subsumption based autonomous robotics control. The paper shows, through experimentation, that the implementation of the architecture is reliable and efficient. With the success of the implementation in one platform, future development of subsumption in multiple platforms may be tried.

This WiMAX(World Wide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is an emerging technology that provides the possibility of last mile wireless broadband access in order to replace cable and DSL. The end users have an opportunity to utilize WiMAX as the primary connection medium for getting services such as VoIP connections, on-demand video screening and mobile bank transactions. Majority of the WiMAX research has been concentrated on physical and MAC layers; however there has been little attention to security solutions. Numerous security problems should be addressed in various modes and for different type of users in the security standard of WiMAX. In this paper we are going to provide a novel hybrid classification approach.

The measurement chain of the power system consists of various components introducing their associated uncertainty to the measured quantity. Although, it is important to identify and quantify the individual uncertainties of the measurement chain components and consequently the combined measurement chain uncertainty, it is nearly impossible to do this for all the components. In this paper a simplified measurement chain is considered that consists of the instrument transformer and the measurement device. The importance of considering the accuracy class of the instrument transformer is underlined by examining the effect of the instrument transformer accuracy class on the performance of a conventional and a hybrid state estimator performance. The two state estimators are used in the IEEE 118 bus system.

Different analysis methods have been developed to determine brain connectivity patterns. To select suitable methods depending on application contexts, it is essential to evaluate different methods using suitable performance metrics. We propose three application-oriented metrics which enable to measure multivariate causality qualitatively. Using the proposed metrics, the most used analysis methods (Directed Transfer Function, Partial Directed Coherence, Granger-Geweke Causality) are compared on synthetic electroencephalographic data with a predefined causality structure. Furthermore, the performances obtained by using all metrics are evaluated. Such analysis allows us to select the most stable analysis method. Also, the optimal metric can be found by comparing the performances obtained by using different metrics with the graph-based performance in the graphically displayed predicted network.

Renewable energy sources require accurate and appropriate performance not only under normal grid operation but also under abnormal and faulty grid conditions according to the modern grid codes. This paper proposes a novel phase-locked loop algorithm (MSHDC-PLL), which can enable the fast and dynamic synchronization of the interconnected renewable energy system under unbalanced grid faults and under highly harmonic distorted voltage. The outstanding performance of the suggested PLL is achieved by implementing an innovative multi-sequence/harmonic decoupling cell in order to dynamically cancel out the oscillation of the positive sequence voltage vector, produced by the existence of unbalanced and harmonic distorted voltage. The fast and accurate response of the proposed PLL under abnormal grid conditions is very important for the appropriate synchronization and control of the interconnected renewable energy systems. Therefore, the performance of the new PLL can increase the quality of the injected power under abnormal conditions and in addition enable the renewable energy systems to provide the appropriate support to the grid under balanced and unbalanced grid faults.

Network reduction techniques are attractive options for the analysis of large, complex power systems. In the process of network reduction, the original measurements usually get transformed along with the network parameters. It is therefore essential to take into account these transformations in applications such as state estimation. This paper presents a methodology for determining the relation between the measurements in the reduced system and the measurements in the original system. State estimation can then be carried out with the help of the transformed measurements. The developed method is applied on the IEEE 14 bus and IEEE 118 bus test systems.

In Thai, it is not easy to find transcriptions of Roman characters such as English words. This leads to problems in Thai text-to-speech when facing with English words among Thai writing. Automatic English to Thai Grapheme-to-Phoneme conversion is proposed to tackle this problem. This paper presents an application of English syllable features to tone prediction model which is capable of classifying ambiguous tones and a refinement of post-processing module for phone prediction model. Experimental results show that the syllable and word accuracy are 76.03% and 53.93% respectively, which outperform all previous models.

Increasingly stringent spectral spreading constraints are motivating a paradigm shift in the spectrum engineering of radar systems. Future spectrum requirements will likely dictate narrower spectral masks that will change based on geography. The desire to operate radar systems efficiently with waveforms that will provide desired detection capabilities must mesh with the need to meet spectral mask criteria. To this end, a collaborative research effort between Baylor University and the U.S. Naval research Laboratory has resulted in the design of reconfigurable circuit and waveform approaches to optimize spectral confinement, power efficiency, and detection capabilities. This paper surveys the joint optimization approach and describes innovations by the authors in circuit and waveform reconfiguration that will be useful in future flexible radar transmitters.
