This paper presents a robust secondary frequency control integrated with decoupled trigonometric saturated droop controller (DTSDC). The primary frequency controller may induce an error in frequency regulation, which affects the load sharing accuracy among microgrid distributed generators (DGs). Therefore, a centralized secondary controller is designed to converge the frequency to its nominal value for grid-forming inverters. Using an advanced communication channel, the proposed primary and secondary controller can primarily restore the frequency during disturbances, such as DG on/off switching and loading system variation. The practicality and performance of the proposed controller have been demonstrated with MATLAB simulation environment on a mesh microgrid system consisting of four parallel DGs-based inverters. Simulation results show the proposed controller's robustness in the microgrid frequency stability. Hence, it achieves accurate active power sharing with a linear load. Moreover, the impact of resistive and inductive line impedance is discussed in this study. A comparison between the microgrid centralized controller (MGCC) and the decoupled trigonometric saturated droop controller (DTSDC) only is conducted to show the robustness of the presented controller performance. © 2023 IEEE.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with full-duplex relays (FDRs) are pivotal in overcoming connectivity challenges by dynamically establishing effective communication channels. However, despite their potential in network performance via trajectory optimization, integrating energy consumption models for UAV-mounted FDRs remains unexplored, crucial for trajectory design adhering to existing energy constraints. To this end, we introduce an energy-aware trajectory optimization framework to maximize network performance and user fairness within the UAV's energy constraints. Specifically, we present a detailed energy consumption model describing the operational needs of UAV-mounted FDRs and formulate a joint time-division multiple access (TDMA) user scheduling-UAV trajectory optimization problem considering the power dynamics of UAV-mounted FDRs. Finally, our simulation results highlight the role of energy awareness in achieving optimal trajectory and scheduling, contributing to UAV-mounted FDRs' performance in future networks. © 2024 IEEE.

The main purpose of multimodal machine translation (MMT) is to improve the quality of translation results by taking the corresponding visual context as an additional input. Recently many studies in neural machine translation have attempted to obtain high-quality multimodal representation of encoder or decoder via attention mechanism. However, attention mechanism does not always accurately identify the decisive input for each prediction, which leads to an unsatisfactory multimodal information fusion. To this end, we propose an encoder-decoder (Enc-Dec) calibration method which can automatically calibrate the image and text fusion representation in the encoder, and find the decisive input to the translation in the decoder. We validate our model on the MMT dataset Multi30K. Experimental results show that our method significantly outperforms several recent baselines for both English-German and English-French translation tasks in terms of BLEU and METEOR. © 2020 IEEE.

To build a photonic integration platform that incorporates monolithically integrated light sources which require minimized loss and reflection, a micro-meter scale passive layer is needed in addition to the III-V layer. Low temperature plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) silicon nitride (SiN) is a promising candidate, owing to its back-end-of-line (BEOL) integration capabilities, along with its amorphous structure that allows the growth of defect-free thick layers. In view of the III-V layer stack, the optimized SiN waveguides are thick and in a rib formation. However, bends on this thick SiN platform suffer from high radiation losses, resulting in the need for a bending radius as large as 800 µm that poses challenges for compact photonic integrated circuits (PICs). This paper describes and demonstrates a novel SiN bending structure with a deep etched groove along the outer side. This structure significantly reduces the bending radii to 37 µm with a bending loss of 0.1 dB/90°. A compact micro-ring resonator (MRR) with deep etched grooves is also investigated, exhibiting a substantial enhancement in the free spectral range (FSR) compared with the rib waveguide MRRs, while offering a passband of 39.1 GHz. These notable performance improvements pave the way for compact integrated emitters on a single substrate. © 2025 Optica Publishing group (formerly OSA). All rights reserved.

A Network Slice (NS) is a set of network resources deployed to deliver premium service to a group of users as described in a Service Level Agreement (SLA). We consider that premium service entails per user Quality of Service (QoS) requirements instead of aggregate NS metrics as in the majority of the literature. Since the users in a NS may run applications with different QoS requirements, aggregate metrics are inadequate. Their inefficiency is even more pronounced in Radio Access Network Slices (RANSs). In this case, even if all users run the same application, provisioning bandwidth based on aggregate metrics may violate the QoS requirements of users experiencing poorer channel conditions. To resolve this issue, we propose a method to compute the bandwidth required to deliver per user average packet delay guarantees in enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) RANSs by dimensioning a multiclass queueing system. Our method considers a varying number of NS users over time and allows the online adaptation of the NS bandwidth to its current traffic load, which significantly limits bandwidth overprovisioning. We also describe in detail how an SLA is reached between the tenant and the Network Operator (NO) based on the cdf of the required NS bandwidth. We conduct simulations to show the need for per user guarantees and the efficiency of our method. © 2023 IEEE.

We consider the tradeoff between resource efficiency and performance isolation that emerges when multiplexing the resource demands of Network Slices (NSs). On the one hand, multiplexing allows the use of idle resources, which increases resource efficiency. On the other hand, the performance of each NS becomes susceptible to traffic surges in other NSs, which degrades performance isolation. The analysis of this tradeoff enables network operators to determine the effect of performance isolation on the operating cost of each NS. To study the tradeoff, we solve an optimization problem where we find the multiplexing policy that requires the least provisioned resources to honor the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) of all NSs. The SLA of each NS i states that its resource demand should be met for PiH fraction of time, and for PiL ≤ PiH fraction of time, it should be met regardless of the demands of other NSs. For resource demands that follow ergodic Markov chains, we show that the well-known Max-Weight scheduler is an optimal multiplexing policy. Since the Max-Weight scheduler does not require any knowledge of the statistics of the resource demands, we also propose its use in non-markovian settings. For resource demands obtained in the LTE module of ns-3, we show that the Max-Weight scheduler reduces the provisioned bandwidth by 36.2% when no performance isolation is required. Lastly, for these non-markovian resource demands, the Max-Weight scheduler maintains its optimality since it requires as much provisioned bandwidth as the best non-causal scheduler. © 2023 IFIP.

In today’s modern society, data play an integral role in the development global industry, since they have become a valuable asset for companies, institutions, governments, and others. At the same time, data generated daily, at a global scale, require significant resources to pre-process, filter and store. When it comes to acquiring such stored data, it is essential to understand which dataset fits to the needs of the user beforehand. One particularly important factor is the quality of a dataset, which could be determined based on a series of quality related attributes generated by it. Such attributes constitute "Profiling", the process of obtaining information from a data sample, related to the complete dataset’s quality. However, in the era of Big Data, the ability to apply profiling techniques in complete large datasets should also be considered, in order to obtain complete quality insights. This paper attempts to provide a solution for this consideration by presenting "DaQuE", a scalable framework for efficient profiling and quality analytics extraction in complete datasets of all volumes. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2024.

In the typical multiagent formation tracking problem centered on consensus, the prevailing assumption in the literature is that the agents' nonlinear models can be approximated by integrator systems, by their feedback-linearized equivalents, or by dynamics composed of deterministic linear and nonlinear terms. The resulting approaches associated with such assumptions, however, are hardly applicable to general nonlinear systems. To this end, we present consensus-based control laws for multiagent formation tracking in finite-dimensional state space, with the agents represented by a more general class of dynamics: control-affine nonlinear systems. The agents also exchange information via a leader-follower communication topology modeled as an undirected and connected graph with a single leader node. By leveraging standard tools from algebraic graph theory and Lyapunov analysis, we first derive a locally asymptotically stabilizing formation tracking law. Next, to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach, we present results from numerical simulations of an example in robotics. These results - together with a comparison of the formation errors obtained with our approach and those realized via an optimization-based method - further validate our theoretical propositions. © 2023 IEEE.

Normally, the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal artifacts are removed in a particular sequence starting with baseline wander removal at the beginning. In this work, a methodology has been proposed using a novel algorithm called the Normalized Leaky Sign Regressor Least Mean Mixed Norm (NLSRLMMN) algorithm to remove multiple ECG artifacts such as baseline wander, motion artifacts, muscle artifacts, and power line interference randomly without following a particular sequence. Through rigorous simulations we have shown that if we remove multiple ECG artifacts randomly using our proposed approach then an improvement in signal to noise ratio and mean square error is observed as opposed to a conventional method that employs the Least Mean Square (LMS) algorithm in all the cascaded adaptive noise canceller stages. © 2024 IEEE.

Shared information is a measure of mutual dependence among m=2 jointly distributed discrete random variables. A new undirected probabilistic graphical model, a cliqueylon graph, is introduced, with potential applications in leader-follower swarms and neuron clusters with correlations of varying strength. Shared information is characterized explicitly for the cliqueylon, relying on structural properties of an underlying optimization. Implications for the data compression problem of omniscience are highlighted. © 2023 IEEE.
