This note studies state estimation in wireless networked control systems with secrecy against eavesdropping. Specifically, a sensor transmits a system state information to the estimator over a legitimate user link, and an eavesdropper overhears these data over its link independent of the user link. Each connection may be affected by packet losses and is modeled by a finite-state Markov channel (FSMC), an abstraction widely used to design wireless communication systems. This paper presents a novel concept of optimal mean square expected secrecy over FSMCs and delineates the design of a secrecy parameter requiring the user mean square estimation error (MSE) to be bounded and eavesdropper MSE unbounded. We illustrate the developed results on an example of an inverted pendulum on a cart whose parameters are estimated remotely over a wireless link exposed to an eavesdropper. When mining of input data is focused on rule induction, knowledge, discovered in exploration of existing patterns, is stored in combinations of certain conditions on attributes included in rule premises, leading to specific decisions. Through their properties, such as lengths, supports, cardinalities of rule sets, inferred rules characterise relations detected among variables. The paper presents research dedicated to analysis of these dependencies, considered in the context of various discretisation methods applied to the input data from stylometric domain. For induction of decision rules from data, Classical Rough Set Approach was employed. Next, based on rule properties, several factors were proposed and evaluated, reflecting characteristics of available condition attributes. They allowed to observe how variables and rule sets changed depending on applied discretisation algorithms.

FPGA is a hardware architecture based on a matrix of programmable and configurable logic circuits thanks to which a large number of functionalities inside the device can be modified using a hardware description language. These functionalities must often be secured especially when the context is sensitive (military, banking, medical, legal, etc.). In this paper, we put forward an efficient implementation of SIMON’s block cipher algorithm using Xilinx Vivado 2018.2. The proposed design is analyzed through simulation on Xilinx Artix-7. A prototype of our design is implemented using the xc7a35tcsg324-1 FPGA chip. Performance and results are discussed. © 2023, CC BY.

We developed a transparent computational large-scale imaging-based framework that can distinguish between normal and metastasizing human cells. The method relies on fluorescence microscopy images showing the spatial organization of actin and vimentin filaments in normal and metastasizing single cells, using a combination of multiattention channels network and global explainable techniques. We test a classification between normal cells (Bj primary fibroblast), and their isogenically matched, transformed and invasive counterpart (BjTertSV40TRasV12). Manual annotation is not trivial to automate due to the intricacy of the biologically relevant features. In this research, we utilized established deep learning networks and our new multi-attention channel architecture. To increase the interpretability of the network - crucial for this application area - we developed an interpretable global explainable approach correlating the weighted geometric mean of the total cell images and their local GradCam scores. The significant results from our analysis unprecedently allowed a more detailed, and biologically relevant understanding of the cytoskeletal changes that accompany oncogenic transformation of normal to invasive and metastasizing cells. We also paved the way for a possible spatial micrometre-level biomarker for future development of diagnostic tools against metastasis (spatial distribution of vimentin). © 2023, CC BY-SA.

The optimality and sensitivity of the empirical risk minimization problem with relative entropy regularization (ERM-RER) are investigated for the case in which the reference is a σ-finite measure instead of a probability measure. This generalization allows for a larger degree of flexibility in the incorporation of prior knowledge over the set of models. In this setting, the interplay of the regularization parameter, the reference measure, the risk function, and the empirical risk induced by the solution of the ERM-RER problem is characterized. This characterization yields necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of regularization parameters that achieve arbitrarily small empirical risk with arbitrarily high probability. Additionally, the sensitivity of the expected empirical risk to deviations from the solution of the ERM-RER problem is studied. Dataset-dependent and dataset-independent upper bounds on the absolute value of the sensitivity are presented. In a special case, it is shown that the expectation (with respect to the datasets) of the absolute value of the sensitivity is upper bounded, up to a constant factor, by the square root of the lautum information between the models and the datasets.

The paper presents research focused on decision reducts, a feature reduction mechanism inherent to rough sets theory. As a reduct enables to protect the discriminative properties of attributes with respect to described concepts, from the point of data representation, a reduct length is considered to be the most important measure of its quality. However, such approach is insufficient while taking into account the performance of a reduct-based rule classifier applied to test samples. When many reducts of the same length are available, they can lead to vastly different predictions. The paper provides a description for the proposed procedure for iterative reduct generation, which results in decrease of diversity in the observed levels of accuracy, supporting reduct selection. The procedure was applied for binary classification with balanced classes, for the stylometric task of authorship attribution. © 2020 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Pyrolysis is a prominent technique to harvest energy while addressing the global waste problem. Product yield relies heavily on precise reactor temperature control in a pyrolysis process;thus, a representative mathematical model is necessary to design and evaluate the control system. Hence, this research aims to create a data-driven model of a 1 kg/h Auger-based pyrolysis (APR) plant and design a robust controller accordingly. The system is excited by using a pseudo-random binary signal (PRBS) to trigger process response and is recorded for 2 hours. Various models with different orders, such as Auto Regressive Exogeneous (ARX), Auto Regressive Moving Average Exogeneous (ARMAX), Box-Jenkins (BJ), and Output Error (OE) were created from the obtained data. The models were examined using best-fit percentage, final prediction error (FPE) and mean square error (MSE) criteria and validated using cross-correlation and auto-correlation functions. Two widely used and purpose-fit controllers, Proportional-Integral-Derivate (PID) and Model Predictive control (MPC), with output constraints, were designed and tuned for this application. Several operational scenarios were investigated, such as setpoint tracking and disturbance rejection. The best-fit models were selected and validated for TIC-3, TIC-4 and TIC-5, with 96.22%, 97.4% and 84.83% fitness criteria, respectively. Both controllers successfully satisfied all the tests with less than 2% steady-state error. However, MPC surpassed PID controllers in all aspects, such as 5-7 times faster settling time, negligible overshoot, and reduced integral absolute error (IAE) and integral square error (ISE) up to 44.75% and 5.45%, respectively. Nevertheless, MPC with input and output constraints performance pales compared to other controllers despite some adjustments with massive ISE and settling time above 3000 seconds. As a result, a recommendation to change the input actuator will be beneficial to unleash the benefit of MPC fully. © 2

This paper presents a study for optimizing a hot rolling mill. The paper is devoted to the study of ways to reduce the effect of shock loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing mill group on the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling stands of the finishing mill group. The elasticity of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap of the rolling mill has a significant impact on the movement of intercoupled multi-motor electric drives of the finishing mill group. Another crucial route of exposure that influences the motion of the electric drives within the finishing mill group involves the electromagnetic connection between the drives in the roughing and finishing mill groups. The impact of the electromagnetically connected circuits is evident through the effect of shock loads from synchronous electric drives on the angular velocity of the direct current electric drives within the finishing mill group. The characteristics of the electromagnetic communication circuit are established by the power grid arrangement and equipment specifications. To assess the quality of work of electric drives of the finishing mill group, it is proposed to use the relative lengthening of the metal strip in the inter-stand gap, which is an important indirect indicator of the quality of rolling. The mathematical model of a hot rolling mill that takes into account both the elasticity of the metal strip that connects the DC electric drives of the finishing group, and the electromagnetic coupling circuit that takes into account the impact loads of synchronous electric drives of the roughing group on the example of the mill 1700 of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC was proposed in this paper. The paper is dedicated to the area of feature selection, in particular a notion of attribute rankings that allow to estimate importance of variables. In the research presented for ranking construction a new weighting factor was defined, based on relative reducts. A reduct constitutes an embedded mechanism of feature selection, specific to rough set theory. The proposed factor takes into account the number of reducts in which a given attribute exists, as well as lengths of reducts. Two approaches for reduct generation were employed and compared, with search executed by a genetic algorithm. To validate the usefulness of the reduct-based rankings in the process of feature reduction, for gradually decreasing subsets of attributes, selected through rankings, sets of decision rules were induced in classical rough set approach. The performance of all rule classifiers was evaluated, and experimental results showed that the proposed rankings led to at least the same, or even increased classification accuracy for reduced sets of features than in the case of operating on the entire set of condition attributes. The experiments were performed on datasets from stylometry domain, with treating authorship attribution as a classification task, and stylometric descriptors as characteristic features defining writing styles. © 2020 The Authors.
