Weighting Attributes Based on the Greedy Algorithm Properties

Estimation of importance for considered features is an important issue for any knowledge exploration process and it can be executed by a variety of approaches. In the research reported in this study, the primary aim was the development of a methodology for creating attribute rankings. Based on the properties of the greedy algorithm for inducing decision rules, a new application of this algorithm has been proposed. Instead of constructing a single ordering of features, attributes were weighted multiple times. The input datasets were discretised with several algorithms representing supervised and unsupervised discretisation approaches. Each resulting discrete data variant was exploited to construct a ranking of attributes. The effectiveness of the obtained rankings was confirmed through a rule filtering process governed by weighted attributes. The methodology was applied to the stylometric task of authorship attribution. The experimental outcomes demonstrate the value of the proposed research method, as it generally led to improved predictions while taking into account a noticeably decreased sets of attributes and decision rules.

The optimization of crop harvesting processes for commonly cultivated crops is of great importance in the aim of agricultural industrialization. Nowadays, the utilization of machine vision has enabled the automated identification of crops, leading to the enhancement of harvesting efficiency, but challenges still exist. This study presents a new framework that combines two separate architectures of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in order to simultaneously accomplish the tasks of crop detection and harvesting (robotic manipulation) inside a simulated environment. Crop images in the simulated environment are subjected to random rotations, cropping, brightness, and contrast adjustments to create augmented images for dataset generation. The You Only Look Once(YOLO) algorithmic framework is employed with traditional Rectangular Bounding Boxes (R-Bbox) for crop localization. The proposed method subsequently utilises the acquired image data via a visual geometry group model in order to reveal the grasping positions for the robotic manipulation. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a robust control scheme for isolated AC Microgrids, where each node is connected locally to a constant power load (CPL). Contrary to many approaches in the literature, we consider the explicit model of the inverter dynamics and separate the overall system into two parts; a nominal subsystem parametrized by a nominal load and an error subsystem describing the difference between the true and the nominal voltage, resulting from perturbations of the load demand. In the presented analysis, we investigate the non-linear structure of the CPL in order to analytically describe its geometric effect on the network dynamics. We exploit this information to propose mild conditions on the tuning parameters such that a positive invariant set for the error dynamics exists and the distance between the true and the nominal voltage trajectories is bounded at all times. We demonstrate the properties of the proposed control scheme in a simulated scenario.

The electromagnetic interference (EMI) problem caused by power electronic switching devices and pulse width modulation (PWM) affects the normal operation of the motor drive system. In this paper, a random PWM based on unified modulation is proposed for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive system. The theoretical basis of unified modulation and the implementation scheme of random modulation are analyzed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed random PWM is verified by simulation.

Simultaneously controlling multiple robot swarms is challenging for a single human operator. When involving multiple operators, however, they can each focus on controlling a specific robot swarm, which helps distribute the cognitive workload. They could also exchange some robots with each other in response to the requirements of the tasks they discover. This paper investigates the ability of multiple operators to dynamically share the control of robot swarms and the effects of different communication types on performance and human factors. A total of 52 participants completed an experiment in which they were randomly paired to form a team. In a $2\times 2$ mixed factorial study, participants were split into two groups by communication type (direct vs. indirect). Both groups experienced different robot-sharing conditions (robot-sharing vs. no-robot-sharing). Results show that although the ability to share robots did not necessarily increase task scores, it allowed the operators to switch between working independently and collaboratively, reduced the total energy consumed by the swarm, and was considered useful by the participants.

Power electronic switching devices and pulse width modulation (PWM) not only improves the performance of motor drive systems, but also brings about common-mode voltage (CMV) issues, that challenging the normal operation of the system. This article proposes a zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy based on unified voltage modulation for a 60° Y-connected six-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor system driven by a dual three-phase inverter. The theoretical basis and zero common-mode implementation scheme of unified modulation are analyzed, and the effectiveness of the proposed zero common-mode voltage modulation strategy is finally verified through simulation.

The area of feature selection methods constantly expands along with the development of artificial intelligence domain, and has great impact on almost every field, whenever data is processed and explored. The paper presents research where a ranking method was proposed, inspired by an approach which comes from an algorithm for induction of decision rules. The ranking procedure was based on calculation of standard deviation for attributes, taking into account assigned class labels. This method was compared with another ranking mechanism, a modified version of popular Relief algorithm, with incorporating characteristics of variables by supervised discretisation. Comparison of obtained results included the aspect of knowledge representation as well as the perspective of the accuracy for constructed rule-based classifiers. The experiments were performed on datasets from stylometry domain, where authorship attribution was considered as a classification task, and stylometric descriptors as characteristic features defining writing styles of authors. © 2022 The Authors. In recent years, wide bandgap semiconductor devices such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) have been increasingly applied in electric drive systems, effectively enhancing system power density. However, the high-frequency and high-speed characteristics of SiC devices exacerbate electromagnetic interference (EMI) issues within the system. Additionally, the cables in electric drive systems exhibit significant antenna effects, radiating conducted EMI into the surrounding space, thereby affecting the normal operation of other sensitive equipment. Therefore, it is essential to research motor drive system topologies that can actively suppress EMI and predict radiated interference in motor drive systems. The topology of a four-module motor paired with parallel inverters can achieve active suppression of EMI at the source. This paper conducts a simulation-based prediction of radiated interference for a parallel inverter-driven four-module motor system. It analyzes the coupling mechanisms of common mode and differential mode radiated interference and validates the radiated interference from both DC and AC cables through simulations, predicting the impact on surrounding sensitive equipment in practical systems.

The superior performance of object detectors is often established under the condition that the test samples are in the same distribution as the training data. However, in many practical applications, out-of-distribution (OOD) instances are inevitable and usually lead to uncertainty in the results. In this paper, we propose a novel, intuitive, and scalable probabilistic object detection method for OOD detection. Unlike other uncertainty-modeling methods that either require huge computational costs to infer the weight distributions or rely on model training through synthetic outlier data, our method is able to distinguish between in-distribution (ID) data and OOD data via weight parameter sampling from proposed Gaussian distributions based on pre-trained networks. We demonstrate that our Bayesian object detector can achieve satisfactory OOD identification performance by reducing the FPR95 score by up to 8.19% and increasing the AUROC score by up to 13.94% when trained on BDD100k and VOC datasets as the ID datasets and evaluated on COCO2017 dataset as the OOD dataset. The quotient of two multivariate Gaussian densities can be written as an unnormalized Gaussian density, which has been applied in some recently developed multiple-model fixed-interval smoothing algorithms. However, this expression is invalid if instead of being positive definite, the covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density is indefinite (i.e., it has both positive and negative eigenvalues) or undefined (i.e., computing it requires inverting a singular matrix). This paper considers approximating the quotient of two Gaussian densities in this case using two different approaches to mitigate the caused numerical problems. The first approach directly replaces the indefinite covariance of the unnormalized Gaussian density with a positive definite matrix nearest to it. The second approach computes the approximation through solving, using the natural gradient, an optimization problem with a Kullback-Leibler divergence-based cost function. This paper illustrates the application of the theoretical results by incorporating them into an existing smoothing method for jump Markov systems and utilizing the obtained smoothers to track a maneuvering target. © 2023 International Society of Information Fusion.
