computer-aided detection of plasmodium malaria on cell images from digital microscopy provides an invaluable second opinion to medical experts. Traditionally, well-established deep learning algorithms are widely used to detect plasmodium, but these techniques have not been deployed due to the uninterpretable nature of the decisions made by the network. To address this, we present an ensemble method that fuses the predictions based on the class activation mapping (CAM) results from multiple networks via a novel selector network. We study the performance on a publicly available dataset of cell images by using three convolutional neural network architectures, Xception, ResNet50, and InceptionV3,to produce CAM results for the selector network and performance comparison. Our proposed approach helps enhance doctors' trust and outperforms the traditional methods by 1%. © 2023 IEEE.

Deep learning approaches' use in financial market forecasting has recently drawn a lot of attention from both investors and scholars. The Transformer framework, initially created for natural language processing, is used in this study to propose a revolutionary approach for forecasting the stock market indices of seven different economies: China, Canada, India, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The well-known Transformer architecture, which excels at capturing complex non-linear patterns, is modified to study the unique dynamics of each nation's stock market. The model successfully determines the basic principles driving market behavior by using an encoder-decoder structure and a multi-head attention mechanism. The aforementioned indices are used in back-testing trials, which cover a variety of economic environments. The outcomes demonstrate that the Transformer performs better than conventional techniques, with Mean Squared Error (MSE) acting as a crucial evaluation criterion. Notably, the model shows promise for investors in these widely separated markets to receive excess profits. This study offers a thorough analysis of stock market forecasting, expanding its relevance to a wider global context. comprehension of how this strategy might adjust to various financial ecosystems is improved by the addition of seven unique economies. Future research may go more deeply into applications that are industry-specific and investigate potential extensions to additional international markets. © 2024 IEEE.

A popular biometric identification method, renowned for its dependability and individuality in personal identification, is fingerprint recognition. This article presents an efficient fingerprint identification system that significantly reduces processing times for 100,000 fingerprints from 8 minutes to less than 5 seconds by utilizing multithreading, ANSI 378 templates, and Source AFIS. The system overcomes the time-consuming image-to-template conversion procedure and increases overall storage efficiency by utilizing parallel processing and preformatted templates (ANSI/ISO). The fingerprint matching system incorporates Directional Field, CNN models for identifying fingerprint types, and Finger Code methods to classify fingerprints, improving precision and efficiency.

Runtime verification (RV) is an effective lightweight formal method for improving software’s reliability at runtime. There exist no RV tools specially designed for C++ programs. This paper introduces the first one, i.e., CCMOP, which implements an AOP-based RV approach and supports the RV of general properties for C/C++ program. CCMOP provides an AOP language specially designed for C++ program to define the events in RV. The instrumentation of RV monitor is done at AST-level, which improves the efficiency of compilation and the accuracy of RV. CCMOP is implemented based on JavaMOP and an industrial-strength compiler. The results of extensive experiments on 100 real-world C/C++ programs (5584.3K LOCs in total) indicate that CCMOP is robust and supports the RV of real-world C/C++ programs. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Frequently, individuals undergo specific episodes of mental health challenges throughout their lifetime. But the COVID pandemic has triggered a surge in mental health disorders arising from isolation, monotonous routines, demanding workloads, financial disparities, and disruptions to daily schedules. Furthermore, the global pandemic has induced constant anxiety and stress. Beyond the pandemic, the competition and intense pressure of the modern world impact mental health. Access to advanced mental health solutions and the necessary familiarity remain limited for most of the population. Given the integration of technology into daily life, diverse remedies, including mobile and web applications, have emerged to tackle the escalating challenge of mental health disorders. This study proposes an accessible and cost-effective approach that employs machine learning to detect stress levels and discern user emotions from journal entries and facial expressions while integrating self-journaling, video recommendations, and visual content generation to stimulate positive emotions and relieve stress. © 2023 IEEE.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurological illness that worsens with time. The aged population has expanded in recent years, as has the prevalence of geriatric illnesses. There is no cure, but early detection and proper treatment allow sufferers to live normal lives. Furthermore, people with this disease’s immune systems steadily degenerate, resulting in a wide range of severe disorders. Neuroimaging Data from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is utilized to identify and detect the disease as early as possible. The data is derived from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) collection of 266 people with 177 structural brain MRI imaging, DTI, and PET data for intermediate disease diagnosis. When neuropsychological and cognitive data are integrated, the study found that ML can aid in the identification of preclinical Alzheimer’s disease. Our primary objective is to develop a model that is reliable, simple, and rapid for diagnosing preclinical Alzheimer’s disease. According to our findings (MRIAD), the Logistic Regression (LR) model has the best accuracy and classification prediction of about 98%. The ML model is also developed in the paper. This article profoundly, describes the possibility to getting into Alzheimer’s disease (AD) information from the pre-clinical or non-preclinical trial datasets using Machine Learning Classifier (ML) approaches. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Potato is the most widely grown and consumed food throughout the world. There are a number of potato crop diseases that affect production, and these diseases differ in symptoms, circumstances, and controls. Early detection and recognition of disease information can aid in disease prevention and production. This paper presents deep learning models using proposed CNN and pre-trained models for potato disease detection and classification. The proposed model is more efficient and accurate at detection and classification. To perform classification, we used two datasets: PLD and PlantVillage. The Xception CNN model serves as the foundation for our proposed model. It achieved 1.00 accuracy, 0.99 precision, 1.00 recall, and 0.99 F1-score on the PLD dataset. On the PlantVillage dataset, it achieved 1.00 accuracy, 1.00 precision, 1.00 recall, and 1.00 F1-score. We also compared the results of Inception-ResNet-V2, MobileNet-V2, VGG-19, Inception-V3, and Xception models with the performance of our proposed model. For three classes of potato leaves, the proposed CNN model produced more accurate results than other pre-trained models. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Smart cities, industrial automation, healthcare, and environmental monitoring are just a few of the industries that have seen revolutionary changes as a result of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) explosive growth. WSNs are significantly hampered by the limited energy resources of their sensor nodes, which are usually battery-powered and placed in inaccessible locations, despite their wide-ranging applications. As a result, energy efficiency is now a crucial component of these networks’ operation and design. Though these protocols frequently fail to adjust to the dynamic and unpredictable nature of WSNs, traditional energy-aware routing methods have been created to decrease energy consumption by choosing the best paths for data transfer. By allowing sensor nodes to learn from their surroundings and make wise routing decisions, the machine learning field of reinforcement learning (RL) provides a viable answer to these problems. In contrast to conventional techniques, RL-based protocols provide continuous energy optimization by dynamically modifying their routing strategies in response to real-time feedback. This paper investigates how to include RL methods—specifically, Q-learning and SARSA—into WSN energy-aware routing protocols. The suggested method creates a more distributed and scalable solution by enabling each node to independently learn and modify its routing choices. The effectiveness of RL-based routing protocols is compared to traditional methods through comprehensive simulations. The findings show that by slowing down the rate at which energy is being used up by each node, RL not only increases energy efficiency but also lengthens the network's operational life. In particular, Q-learning demonstrates a notable improvement in sustaining data delivery rates and network connectivity under various circumstances. Biometric technologies have been widely adopted in various commercial products, ranging from security systems to personal devices, due to their exceptional reliability and user-friendliness. Among these, palmprint biometrics has gained increasing attention for its advantages, such as ease of use, a larger surface area, and the ability to capture more features compared to other biometric methods. A typical palmprint biometric system involves five key stages: (a) Image Acquisition, (b) Hand Segmentation, (c) Pattern Generation, (d) Feature Extraction, and (e) Verification/Identification. The overall success of the system depends on the effectiveness of each stage, with hand segmentation being crucial for identifying the most relevant features for accurate verification. This study aims to achieve high-accuracy biometric recognition by segmenting hands from images captured in uncontrolled environments with complex backgrounds. Accuracy (ACC), Intersection over Union (IoU), F1-Score, and Dice Coefficient are the four critical metrics used to assess the performance of segmentation techniques. The findings demonstrate that the U-Net + ViT and MA-Net + ResNet34 techniques outperform traditional auto-encoder methods in both quantitative performance metrics and visual analysis, leading to significantly improved hand segmentation for biometric systems. © 2024 IEEE.
