Medical imagery has been increasingly used in diagnosing and treating various diseases, leading to advances in healthcare. While humans usually lead the qualitative interpretation of visual features, Automated Classification of Medical Images Using Convolution Neural Networks (CNNs) has gained traction for accurate image classification. CNNs are a type of deep learning algorithm that attempts to mimic the structure of the human brain and are ideal for image classification due to their convolution layers that can detect patterns within the image. These convolution layers enable the networks to learn the characteristics of the data through a series of convolution and pooling operations. Additionally, they can rapidly identify relationships and patterns within the dataset and extract features from the input image, thus allowing a more accurate classification. With the increasing availability of medical imaging data, advancements in the field of ML/AI has enabled the use of CNNs for automated medical image classification, helping clinicians to diagnose diseases accurately with less time and effort. ©2024 IEEE.

The industrial sector has entered a phase of profound change which sees digital technologies being integrated into the heart of industrial processes. This fourth industrial era gives birth to a new generation of factory called “Digital Factory”, “Industry 4.0”. This industrial change is the result of the integration of new digital technologies into manufacturing processes and the optimization of energy consumption. The commitment to the environment is also a key and success factor of Industry 4.0 and green in particular the reduction of carbon emissions and pollution. This is how smart green industry try to take in charge the problem of energy consumption and to reduce the Co2 pollution. The goal of this paper is to present the new model of smart green industry using distributed artificial intelligence based on multi-agent system (MAS). The motivation to use the intelligent approach based on MAS is based on the similarity between the fundamental concepts of the cyber-physical system and those contained in the architecture and operation of MAS such as communication, coordination, decision and cooperation.

In contemporary times, nations like Sri Lanka are actively enhancing their efforts to improve the life expectancy of their citizens, with a strong focus on public health. The relationship between health and life expectancy is pivotal. Poor health conditions tend to diminish life expectancy, while robust health measures tend to extend it. Within the context of health, birth and death events are of paramount importance. Birth represents the genesis of life, enabling individuals to contribute to future generations and the overall population's expansion. It's the cornerstone of life on our planet. However, modern times have witnessed challenges in pregnancy and childbirth, with some infants not surviving the prenatal period or being born with health complications. Consequently, there is a pressing need to present a solution that can contribute to the betterment of maternal and infant health, ultimately augmenting Sri Lanka's life expectancy. The proposed solution is the development of a mobile application, encompassing features such as a Nutrition Predictor, Medicine Effect Predictor, AI chatbot, and Baby Status Predictor. This innovative application aims to address the complex issues surrounding pregnancy and childbirth, with the overarching goal of improving the nation's life expectancy.

Zero-shot stance detection aims to determine the stance of previously unseen targets during the inference phase. Achieving effective feature alignment from seen targets to unseen targets is crucial for zero-shot stance detection. In this paper, we propose MSFR, a hierarchical contrastive learning framework, which consists of two core components: inter-aspect contrastive learning for distinguishing aspect-level features and intra-aspect contrastive learning for capturing attribute-level features. Specifically, inter-aspect contrastive learning first maps the global features of an utterance to multiple aspects that influence semantic expression (referred to as aspect-level feature differentiation). This process facilitates the alignment of semantic features across different factors of seen and unseen targets. Intra-aspect contrastive learning enhances the distinguishability of features within the same aspect (referred to as attribute-level feature differentiation) and improves the model’s fine-grained generalization capability. Experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of our model compared to competing baseline models.

The usage of online entertainment has increased dramatically after some time with the enhancement of the Internet and has turned into the most compelling systems administration stage in this century. A wide range of respiratory diseases, such as cold and flu, asthma, and COVID-19, affect people’s daily lives worldwide. In medical practice, respiratory sounds are widely used in medical services to diagnose various respiratory illnesses and lung disorders. The traditional diagnosis of such sounds requires specialized knowledge, which can be costly and reliant on human expertise. Recently, cough audio recordings have been used to automate the process of detecting respiratory conditions. This research aims to examine various acoustic features that enhance the performance of machine learning (ML) models in detecting COVID-19 from cough signals. This study investigates the efficacy of three feature extraction techniques, including Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC), Chroma, and Spectral Contrast features, on two ML algorithms, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), and thus proposes an efficient COVID-19 detection system. The proposed system produces a practical solution and demonstrates higher state-of-the-art classification performance with an AUC of 0.843 on the COUGHVID dataset and 0.953 on the Virufy dataset for COVID-19 detection. Aiming at the low accuracy of traditional algorithms in predicting Enhancer-Promoter Interactions (EPIs) in the human genome, an EPIs prediction network based on ResNeXt and attention mechanism was proposed. In the data processing stage, the gene sequence data of a small number of positive samples in the data set is expanded to be consistent with the number of negative samples;then an EPIRNX model is constructed for feature selection and extraction for a given gene sequence, and long-distance features are mined for use in This cell line prediction;the transfer learning model EPIRNX-Transfer was also trained for cross cell line prediction. Using AUROC and AUPRC as evaluation indicators, EPIRNX can better predict EPIs in this cell line than traditional models, and EPIRNX-Transfer can better predict EPIs across cell lines. © 2022 SPIE.

Towards personalized control of things using Arabic voice commands for elderly and with disabilities people

Considering recent smart home solutions that automate home appliances through voice commands, elderly people and/or with special needs prefer using their mother-tongue. However, most of current systems adopt the English language, making it harder for non-native English speakers, while personalization is not heavily considered. In this paper, we propose the Arabic Personalized Control of Things (APCoT) system that achieves inhabitant-tailored home automation through Arabic voice commands based on the user’s preferences to control a home device. A new dataset is created for a wider range of Arabic voice commands to interact with home appliances rather than just turning them on/off. Internet of Things, voice and speech recognition are utilized to attain personalization according to the inhabitants' voiceprints, while infrared is adopted to control non-smart devices supporting infrared signals. As a Proof-of-Concept, three home appliances are adopted: TV, Lights and Bluetooth speaker. Machine learning algorithms are customized for Arabic voice recognition, integrating face and hand gestures recognition to provide an additional facility for inhabitant’s identification and sending control commands respectively. The experimental results indicate that the best average accuracies obtained for Arabic voice recognition were 99.63% for a single speaker and 95.4% for multi-speakers, with average response times 0.141s and 14.29s respectively. For speech recognition, Google online API and a customized Vosk offline pretrained model achieved average accuracies of 95% and 90%, average response times 0.7553s and 0.3933s respectively. The face and hand gestures recognition achieved average accuracies of 90% and 98%, average response times 0.5934s and 15.62049s respectively. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of computer Applications and Management.

The development of learning analytics technology has created the necessary conditions for the implementation of large-scale personalized education. By taking advantage of the current advancements available, we can adopt a deep integration of “artificial intelligence + education”, take educational big data as the research object, aim at achieving precise teaching, and use cognitive diagnosis as a means to construct an intelligent guidance model. The model will conform to a learner's cognitive patterns and curriculum characteristics to meet his personalized learning needs under different knowledge states. Firstly, use knowledge map and abstract syntax trees to extract the characteristics of teaching objectives from questions and standard programing codes. Secondly, Use “target characteristics - learning characteristics - learning sequence - learning effect” cognitive diagnosis model to assess student achievement in learning. Finally, according to the correlation between knowledge points, the initial learning path consisting of all relevant knowledge points is identified from a knowledge map. And the most optimal learning path is selected based on the importance of knowledge points and student's learning situation. There are three innovation points in this paper. First, the traditional method which only focuses on discovering the one-dimensional knowledge features implicated in the questions, is extended to construct a knowledge-ability multidimensional feature matrix. Secondly, it optimized static cognitive diagnosis into dynamic cognitive arbitrariness, which has a modeling capability of dynamic temporal sequence. Thirdly, it regarded the correlation between knowledge points, and the importance of knowledge points as the heuristic conditions for constructing a learning path.
