The development of intelligent solutions for manufacturing is a challenging task. Industry 4.0 platforms can provide a unifying layer here. However, flexible AI support, openness for evolving service and components from different vendors and adaptability to the diverse and changing requirements is required from such a platform to boost IIoT development. For this purpose, our approach combines - as a "power trio" - (1) wide use of Asset Administration Shells (AAS) for targeting device, component and service heterogeneity, with (2) configuration support for dealing with the diverse and changing requirements and (3) code generation for cost-effective creation of customer specific platform instances, AAS and AI-based Industry 4.0 applications on top of the IIP-Ecosphere platform. The platform has been implemented based on vertically scaled AAS and evaluated with two Industry 4.0 demonstrators. In this context, we discuss the experiences we made with our approach.

HOG-VGG:VGG Network with HOG Feature Fusion for High-Precision PolSAR Terrain Classification

This article proposes a VGG network with histogram of oriented gradient(HOG) feature fusion(HOG-VGG) for polarization synthetic aperture radar(PolSAR) image terrain ***-Net has a strong ability of deep feature extraction,which can fully extract the global deep features of different terrains in PolSAR images,so it is widely used in PolSAR terrain ***,VGG-Net ignores the local edge & shape features,resulting in incomplete feature representation of the PolSAR terrains,as a consequence,the terrain classification accuracy is not *** fact,edge and shape features play an important role in PolSAR terrain *** solve this problem,a new VGG network with HOG feature fusion was specifically proposed for high-precision PolSAR terrain ***-VGG extracts both the global deep semantic features and the local edge & shape features of the PolSAR terrains,so the terrain feature representation completeness is greatly ***,HOG-VGG optimally fuses the global deep features and the local edge & shape features to achieve the best classification *** superiority of HOG-VGG is verified on the Flevoland,San Francisco and Oberpfaffenhofen *** show that the proposed HOG-VGG achieves much better PolSAR terrain classification performance,with overall accuracies of 97.54%,94.63%,and 96.07%,respectively.

This innovative practice paper describes our experiences with alternative grading practices in introductory computing courses and two large public universities in the United States. Computing classrooms often use traditional grading practices involving allocating points to assignments, deducting points for mistakes and tardiness, and combining assignment scores using a weighted average to determine grades. Recent research suggests that these practices may diminish achievement, discourage students, and suppress effort to such an extent that they are considered by some as detrimental. We approach our work as an exploratory case study, without predefined research questions or hypotheses. Our experiences began with the adoption of specifications grading. We outline the grading scheme applied to traditional programming assignments and exams/quizzes, and discuss the initial integration of these schemes with conventional auto-grading tools. We delve into student perceptions of alternative grading, their utilization of flexible deadlines, and resubmission opportunities. We conclude with a discussion of two challenges encountered during our exploration: student acceptance of a novel grading form, and the adaptation of tools designed for traditional grading to support alternative grading mechanisms. Our early exploration aims to inspire further research on the use of alternative grading in computing. It is clear from our observations that simply implementing the practices does not ensure the equitable and inclusive outcomes that can be achieved with these practices. If students are not prepared to use these practices, they find them difficult to understand and can feel that they are not being treated fairly. Additionally, we wish to foster a community of practice to assist faculty members exploring these changes, with the goal of creating more equitable and inclusive classrooms.

Image super-resolution (SR) and disparity estimation are closely related in stereo images, with effective utilization of disparity maps enhancing SR performance. This paper proposes a stereo image super-resolution reconstruction network utilizing disparity estimation and a domain diffusion model. The network integrates disparity estimation with diffusion models for feature summation and domain space construction, enabling interaction between forward and backward diffusion memory units. To further improve reconstructed image quality, we introduce a novel memory unit inspired by long short-term memory concepts. Disparity loss and structural similarity are included in the loss function to achieve more accurate results. Properly created and securely communicated,non-disclosure agreement(NDA)can resolve most of the common disputes related to outsourcing of offshore software maintenance(OSMO).Occasionally,these NDAs are in the form of *** the work is done offshore,these agreements or images must be shared through the Internet or stored over the *** breach of privacy,on the other hand,is a potential threat for the image owners as both the Internet and cloud servers are not void of *** article proposes a novel algorithm for securing the NDAs in the form of *** an agreement is signed between the two parties,it will be encrypted before sending to the cloud server or travelling through the public network,the *** the image is input to the algorithm,its pixels would be scrambled through the set of randomly generated rectangles for an arbitrary amount of *** confusion effects have been realized through an XOR operation between the confused image,and chaotic ***,5D multi-wing hyperchaotic system has been employed to spawn the chaotic vectors due to good properties of chaoticity it *** machine experimentation and the security analysis through a comprehensive set of validation metric vividly demonstrate the robustness,defiance to the multifarious threats and the prospects for some real-world application of the proposed encryption algorithm for the NDA images.

Diabetes Mellitus has no permanent cure to date and is one of the leading causes of death globally. The alarming increase in diabetes calls for the need to take precautionary measures to avoid/predict the occurrence of diabetes. This paper proposes HealthEdge, a machine learning-based smart healthcare framework for type 2 diabetes prediction in an integrated IoT-edge-cloud computing system. Numerical experiments and comparative analysis were carried out between the two most used machine learning algorithms in the literature, Random Forest (RF) and Logistic Regression (LR), using two real-life diabetes datasets. The results show that RF predicts diabetes with 6% more accuracy on average compared to LR. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Developing, deploying and testing IoT projects require high investments on devices, fog nodes, cloud nodes, analytic nodes, hardware and software. However, in order to decrease the cost associated to develop and test the IoT system it can be previously simulated. In this regard, designing IoT simulation environments has been tackled focusing on low level aspects such as networks, motes and so on more than focusing on the high level concepts related to IoT environments. Model-driven development aims to develop the software systems from domain models which capture at high level the domain concepts and relationships, generating from them the software artefacts by using code-generators. In this paper, a model-driven development approach is applied to define, generate code and deploy IoT systems simulations. The IoT simulation environment generated from each model includes the sensors, actuators, fog nodes, cloud nodes and analytical characteristics. Additionally, a case study, focused on an Industrial IoT environment is presented to show the simulation expressiveness.

software development involves a significant amount of team effort where collaboration and communication of the team members are crucial. The team meetings are core activities in all stages of the software development process. Even though these meetings often are conducted face-to-face (F2F) with a lackof technology utilization, changing global conditions such as the COVID-19 pandemic require other solutions urgently without interrupting the software development schedule. For this purpose, online collaborative tools provide new opportunities for software teams to work together avoiding waste in time and resources and the relevant literature is immature. This study aims to assess the factors affecting the integration of online collaborative tools to SE practices with a special reference to review meetings. For this purpose, a sample of 73 SE sophomore and junior students who are future software professionals participated in experimental review meetings based on predefined scenarios. The findings indicate that the utilization of OCT's has positive effects on the participants' actual performance and improves the interaction between team members compared to F2F meetings. © 2021 IEEE

The accumulation of dust on solar panels dramatically reduces the efficiency of solar energy systems, an issue that is often overlooked in both urban and rural settings. This work proposes a novel solution to this widespread problem of Solar Dust Detection. Utilizing EfficientNet, which is known for its balanced approach to model depth, width, and resolution, our proposed model accurately identifies dust on solar panels. The suggested model (CASolarNet) employs Channel Attention, EfficientNet, and focal loss to enhance the performance of detecting dust on solar cells. By dynamically modifying feature weights, channel attention techniques enhance dust detection by emphasizing the locations of dust in an image. This capability is crucial for maintaining optimal energy production and extending the lifespan of solar cells. Our model has been extensively tested and validated, resulting in a high accuracy rate of more than 98%. The obtained performance demonstrates the model's effectiveness in various environmental conditions, establishing a new standard in solar maintenance technology. The use of the proposed CASolarNet model has several advantages, including increased energy efficiency, lower maintenance costs, and greater sustainability of solar power systems.
