In this paper, we present a methodology for drones for recognizing different types of objects in maritime areas. The concept and the aim is to assist the national maritime surveillance authorities in the identification of treats and the recognition of the exact type of the treat. The methodology relies on the use of deep learning networks and YOLO framework as well as regression models. The YOLO model detects where each object is and which label should be applied. In this way, object detection is subject to the analysis of Machine Learning-based approaches and Deep Learning-based approaches providing more information about the video or an image than traditional approaches to recognition. These approaches are used to identify groups of pixels that may individually belong to an object. This then feeds a regression model with the help of a convolutional neural network and more specifically, R-CNN, Fast R-CNN, Faster R-CNN and after that object detection algorithm approximates the location of the object and gives its label at the same time. The purpose of the application is to detect objects with an emphasis on identifying one or more targets of interest from data of a video or an image capture. An experimental study was conducted in real-world conditions and revealed quite interesting findings.

Artificial Intelligence techniques, such as optimization algorithms, have become essential for success in many fields. Therefore, most researchers, especially in computer and engineering sciences, focused their efforts and abilities on adapting the optimization algorithms for solving various problems. This review introduces one of the recent nature-inspired optimization algorithms, called black widow optimization (BWO). This review highlights the main procedures of BWO, its strengths and weaknesses, the growth of BWO, the variants of BWO (i.e., binary, modification, and hybridization), and the efficiency of BWO in different fields and applications (i.e., feature selection, medical, image processing, engineering, IoT, power and energy, and networks). As a result, the review seeks to assist researchers who are interested in using the BWO to address their challenges. For instance, it could help manage large pilgrim crowds, enabling smoother ritual performances and overcoming potential difficulties they encounter. Rain streaks are known to cause many performance or accuracy reductions in many computer vision systems. The problem of obstructing rain streaks is addressed within the domain of 'De-raining'. De-raining is the process of removing rain streaks. It has two main sub-categories which are video de-raining and single image de-raining. Many works on single image de-raining have taken place using both traditional approaches as well as deep learning approaches. This paper does a critical analysis of credible, novel, and best performing single image de-raining systems. Also, the paper addresses an unpaired training gap which exists within the domain with the novel de-raining system 'DERAINIZER', enabling all future researchers to employ unpaired training data to train their models. It is followed by results, research limitations and possible future works. © 2021 IEEE.

A serious risk to genuine organization demands is a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack. The main DDoS attack was archived in 1996, however, from that point forward, their intricacy and refinement have consistently expanded. A 2 TBps attack on a crucial foundation, including the monetary area, was accounted for in August 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic. In the accompanying two years, it is anticipated that the number of attacks would twofold, stretching around 15 million. Since its beginning, many relief plans have been made, however, the intricacy is rising, requiring modern arrangements in view of new innovation. A potential and common-sense method for DDoS relief is blockchain. The point of the review is to give an exhaustive examination of the fundamental and intrinsic properties of blockchain, including their decentralization, inside and outer trust lessness, unchanging nature, honesty, obscurity, and evidence, which have demonstrated to be a fantastic contender for battling this destructive cyber threat. © 2023 IEEE.

Using medical data to improve diagnosis accuracy has recently become common practice in hospitals. A modern computing environment has enabled real-time diagnosis of medical data using Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). To extract and evaluate skin melanoma recorded with digital dermatoscopy images (DDI), we developed a CNN segmentation framework. In this proposal, four phases are proposed: (i) DDI collection and resizing, (ii) DDI enhancement using pre-processing techniques, (iii) CNN segmentation for lesion extraction, (v) Comparing the extracted sections to the ground truth images, and (v) Verifying whether the framework is valid. Using DDI pre-processed with (i) Traditional procedures, (ii) Otsu's thresholding, (iii) Kapur's thresholding, and (iv) Fuzzy-Tsallis thresholding, this proposal examines the different CNN segmentation schemes presented in the literature. For mining skin lesions, the Moth-Flame Algorithm (MFA) combined with tri-level thresholding achieves an optimal threshold for the DDI. With Fuzzy-Tsallis thresholding images, the VGG-UNet performs better than the alternatives. This framework helps to achieve better values of Jaccard (88.47±2.13%), Dice (93.08±1.17%), and Accuracy (98.64±0.71%) on the chosen DDI database. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

The immersive nature of virtual reality (VR) gaming is significantly improved by the implementation of dynamic environmental systems. This paper focuses on the development and impact of a dynamic day and night cycle in a serious VR game. This feature is intended to simulate a full 24-hour cycle within a 10-minute gameplay session, resulting in a seamless transition between different times of day that impacts both the visual aesthetics and gameplay mechanics. The day and night cycle introduces strategic depth by requiring players to adjust their management strategies according to the time of day, which affects resource availability, operational efficiency, and conditions. This system not only enhances visual fidelity but also directly impacts gameplay, necessitating that player modify their strategies in response to the changing environment. Visual aesthetics are expected to increase by 15%, strategic profundity will be improved by 20%, and player immersion will be enhanced by 25%, according to the research findings. This investigation underscores the importance of natural cycles in enhancing the strategic complexity, interactivity, and realism of virtual reality environments, thereby offering valuable insights for the creation of future virtual reality games.

computerized medical image examination (CMIE) plays a significant role in modern hospitals to achieve the necessary tasks, like segmentation and classification. By segmenting an image, we can extract a particular section for examination. A two-dimensional computed tomography (CT) slice was used for liver-vessel examination (LiVE). A simple automatic technique for supporting LiVE is being developed in this research. A CT slice is collected, a 3D to 2D conversion is done, (ii) Kapur's tri-level thresholding and Hummingbird-Optimizer is used to enhance the CT slice, (iii) the watershed algorithm (WA) is used to extract the vessel, and (iv) the WA is compared and verified against the segmentation methods chosen. WA provides better segmentation results than other methods because it is an automatic approach. Using the chosen image database, the proposed technique achieves an overall segmentation accuracy of >97%. Other segmentation problems can be used in the future to verify the merit of this scheme. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

computerized disease detection systems (CDDs) have proven effective for automatic screening in recent years. Among the standard procedures in hospitals for faster and more accurate diagnosis is medical imaging-based disease screening. We aim to develop a CDD that detects COVID-19 using chest X-rays pre-trained vision transformers (PVTs). This scheme includes the following steps: (1) collecting images and resizing them, (2) implementing PVT for feature extraction, and (3) binary classifying the results and validating the proposed schemes. To prove the merit of the developed scheme, 4800 images (2400 normal and 2400 COVID-19) are analyzed. MLP classifiers verify the PVT performance using patch sizes of 6, 12, and 24. A patch size 24 results in 97.5% accuracy for the proposed CDD system. When patch sizes are increased to 12, accuracy increases to over 98%. For this specific task, smaller patch sizes are more effective. These high-accuracy results demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed scheme for detecting COVID-19 in chest X-rays. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Awake at the Wheel: Enhancing Automotive Safety through EEG-Based Fatigue Detection

Driver fatigue detection is increasingly recognized as critical for enhancing road safety. This study introduces a method for detecting driver fatigue using the SEED-VIG dataset, a well-established benchmark in EEG-based vigilance analysis. By employing advanced pattern recognition technologies, including machine learning and deep neural networks, EEG signals are meticulously analyzed to discern patterns indicative of fatigue. This methodology combines feature extraction with a classification framework to improve the accuracy of fatigue detection. The proposed NLMDA-Net reached an impressive accuracy of 83.71% in detecting fatigue from EEG signals by incorporating two novel attention modules designed specifically for EEG signals, the channel and depth attention modules. NLMDA-Net effectively integrate features from multiple dimensions, resulting in improved classification performance. This success stems from integrating temporal convolutions and attention mechanisms, which effectively interpret EEG data. Designed to capture both temporal and spatial characteristics of EEG signals, deep learning classifiers have proven superior to traditional methods. The results of this study reveal a substantial enhancement in detection rates over existing models, highlighting the efficacy of the proposed approach for practical applications. The implications of this research are profound, extending beyond academic realms to inform the development of more sophisticated driver assistance systems. Incorporating this fatigue detection algorithm into these systems could significantly reduce fatigue-related incidents on the road, thus fostering safer driving conditions. This paper provides an exhaustive analysis of the dataset, methods employed, results obtained, and the potential real-world applications of the findings, aiming to contribute significantly to advancements in automotive safety. The integration of Fog computing and 5G communication may enhance Cyber Physical Systems (CPSs) for effective time identification of cyber attacks among consumer electronics. An unsupervised Intrusion Detection System (IDS) based on Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) is presented in this study. This system is tailored to the resource limitations of consumer electronics within CPSs. By leveraging the processing power of fog nodes and the low-latency capabilities of 5G networks, cyber attacks can be swiftly identified. The use of a trained Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network encoder improves detection rates by enhancing reconstruction loss computation. Experimental results demonstrate that this approach, implemented through distributed fog computing infrastructure, offers better detection rates with a 15.2% reduction in detection latency and a 24.2% decrease in overall energy consumption compared to baseline methods. This innovative system could serve as an effective alternative for securing consumer electronic devices integrated into CPSs. IEEE
