In this paper, we consider the performance behavior of two protocols: AODV and DSR using TwoRayGround model. We study the routing efficiency of the ad-hoc sensor network and compare the performance of two protocols for different scenarios using the routing efficiency concept. By computer simulations, we found that the routing efficiency of DSP protocol is better than AODV protocol.

Wireless networks have become increasingly popular and advances in wireless communications and electronics have enabled the development of different kind of networks such as mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs), wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and wireless sensor-actor networks (WSANs). These networks have different kind of characteristics, therefore new protocols that fit their features should be developed. We have developed a simulation system to test MANETs, WSNs and WSANs. In this paper, we consider the performance behavior of two protocols: AODV and DSR using TwoRayGround model and Shadowing model for lattice and random topologies. We study the routing efficiency and compare the performance of two protocols for different scenarios. By computer simulations, we found that for large number of nodes when we used TwoRayGround model and random topology, the DSR protocol has a better performance. However, when the transmission rate is higher, the routing efficiency parameter is unstable.

We consider two approaches that model timetable information in public transportation systems as shortest-path problems in weighted graphs. In the time-expanded approach, every event at a station, e.g., the departure of a train, is modeled as a node in the graph, while in the time-dependent approach the graph contains only one node per station. Both approaches have been recently considered for (a simplified version of) the earliest arrival problem, but little is known about their relative performance. Thus far, there are only theoretical arguments in favor of the time-dependent approach. In this paper, we provide the first extensive experimental comparison of the two approaches. Using several real-world data sets, we evaluate the performance of the basic models and of several new extensions towards realistic modeling. Furthermore, new insights on solving bicriteria optimization problems in both models are presented. The time-expanded approach turns out to be more robust for modeling more complex scenarios, whereas the time-dependent approach shows a clearly better performance. © 2008 ACM.

Quantum computing algorithms are considered for several problems in graph theory. Classical algorithms involve searching over some space for finding the minimal spanning tree problem in a graph. We modify classical Primpsilas algorithm and replace quantum search instead of classical search, of which it will lead to more efficient algorithm. Also we proposed the structure for non-classical algorithms and design the various phases of the probabilistic quantum-classical algorithm for classical and quantum parts. Finally, we represent the result of implementing and simulating Primpsilas algorithm in the probabilistic quantum-classical algorithm.

Due to the opportunities provided by the Internet, people are taking advantage of e-learning courses and during the last few years enormous research efforts have been dedicated to the development of e-learning systems. So far, many e-learning systems are proposed and used practically. However, in these systems the e-learning completion rate is low. One of the reasons is the low study desire and motivation. In our previous work, we implemented a e-learning system that is able to increase the learning efficiency by stimulating learners motivation. In this work, we designed and implemented new functions to improve the system performance.

In this panel, we propose to figure out how requirements engineering and interaction design can be usefully combined. In particular, some people argue that scenarios/ use cases should be concrete, as in story-telling. Others argue for use of "essential" use cases as a methodological approach to interaction and user-interface design. Somewhat in the middle, it is argued that use cases should help acquiring the requirements in the first place. What should the practitioner believe and, in particular, do, in order to develop useful and usable software and systems? Software development and interaction design require different skills and different methods and are typically done by different people. Still, scenario-based design is proposed for several activities relevant for both tasks, such as requirements elicitation, software design, and interaction design. Symbolic modeling in this spirit is actually common to various fields. However, scenario-based approaches vary, especially with regard to their use, e.g., employing abstract use cases or integrating scenarios with functions and goals in a systematic design process. So, the key issue to be raised at the panel is how to combine different approaches, e.g., in scenario-based development, so that the interaction design as well as the development of the user interface and of the software internally result in an overall useful and useable system.

The percentage of the elderly population grew rapidly in recent years, so the tremendous life and health care needs became an issue of focus in an aging society. The elderly nursing home plays an important role and intends to provide a comfortable environment and living space and serve as safe and healthy place for the elderly. However, the frailty and fragility of the elderly in both physiologically and psychologically make it an uneasy task. To enhance the service and care quality of an elderly nursing home, a ubiquitous monitor system integrated with biosensors and wireless network technology was implemented as a prototyping system. For managing sensors easily, the universal plug and play (UPnP) technology from digital living network alliance (DLNA) is adopted. The system was expected to be a digital health network to improve the activity of daily living (ADL) of the residents, to detect the emergencies or accidents such as stroke, falling down, fainting, and heart attack, in order to enhance the quality of care and promote efficiency at the same time.

We present a novel active mask framework for the segmentation of fluorescence microscope images of cells, and in particular, for the segmentation of the Golgi body as well as cell- volume computation. We demonstrate that the algorithm is able to efficiently segment a stack of images and successfully assign multiple pieces of the Golgi body in a 2D image to the cell to which they belong. Further, we demonstrate that our algorithm is more accurate than manual segmentation of these images.

The saline water color component characteristic (chlorophyll-a and chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM)) and their spatial change tendency in the Pearl River Estuary from the In-situ data in December of 2006 was studied. Based on the experimental results, the mixing behavior of CDOM in the Shawan-Humen Watercourse was analyzed. The mixing behavior was controlled by topography, hydrological and biological factors, and the relationships among absorption characteristics of CDOM (at 400 nm, ag400). Contained is a discussion of chlorophyll-a concentration and salinity. The chlorophyll-a concentration decreases with increasing CDOM absorption under a salinity of 10, while the chlorophyll-a concentration decreases with increasing salinity. The salinity is becomes less aggressive towards the Lingding Bay in the saltwater intrusion reach of Shawan-Humen, and a low chlorophyll-a concentration area occurs in the Shiziyang riverway where the salinity is greater than 20. The highest chlorophyll-a concentration of surface water was observed in the Dadaoshawei site of the Shawan tributary reach- where the saltwater and freshwater interface. The slope distribution of the CDOM spectral absorption curve in the Shawan-Humen watercourse was increased towards the Lingding Bay direction. The spectral slope S value of CDOM varied from 0.0107 to 0.0121 nm-1 with an average value of 0.0116 nm-1. This was an indication that the terrestrial river input was the main resource of CDOM in the Shawan-Humen watercourse. The high correlation (R2=0.9458) of surface water and bottom water (-7.5m) salinity showed that salinity can be monitored by remote sensing. The ag400 in the saltwater intrusion reach showed conservative behavior, indicating strong characteristics of the CDOM it reflected. There was a correlative relationship between ag400, chlorophyll-a concentration and the salinity, showing that a water color analysis technique can be used to study the distribution and behavior of salinit

In this paper, our investigation focuses on the performance evaluation of Omega multistage interconnection networks which can natively support multi-class priority traffic. For this reason, a multi-buffered, single server switching element is presented and used in the construction of those networks, providing thus better quality of services. The performance evaluation model is based on steady state queuing analysis that leads to a novel utilization's formula. Based on the proposed analysis, other major performance indicators can also be accurately calculated The analytical method was meticulously validated by classic simulation and a part of obtained results was also compared by existing related work. Moreover, the proposed analytical method was found to be very accurate on performance estimations for various network sizes under different offered loads supporting multi-priority traffic. The rationale behind investigating a multi-priority traffic system is to provide efficient networks supporting optimum quality of services (i.e. streaming media vs. file transfer).
