In this paper we present a new pseudorandom BIST scheme for high-speed adders. Under this scheme an adder is simultaneously used as a test pattern generator and as a response compactor during its own testing. The main advantages of the proposed scheme, compared to prior methods, are minimal performance penalty, small hardware overhead and the benefits of at-speed testing.

It has recently been shown that accumulators can be used efficiently for test pattern generation as well as for test response compaction. In this paper we present a BIST scheme for accumulators where the accumulator is simultaneously used as a test pattern generator and a response compactor during its own testing. We also show that the proposed BIST scheme is especially suitable for accumulator, adder and multiplier-accumulator RNS channels leading to minimal hardware overhead and short test sequences.

We reveal the cyclic nature of idempotency in the case of modulo 2/sup n/-1 addition. Then based on this property, we derive for each n, a family of minimum logic depth modulo 2/sup n/-1 adders, which allows several trade-offs between the number of operators, the internal wire length, and the fanout of internal nodes. Performance data, gathered using static CMOS implementations, reveal that the proposed architectures outperform all previously reported ones in terms of area and/or operation speed.

We present the design and the basic features of a computer learning environment for programming and C using geometrical objects (L.E.C.G.O.). The design of this environment was the result of modeling. Basic aspects of constructivism have also been taken into account in its design. L.E.C.G.O. provides pupils with opportunities to: a) express their problem solving strategies in multiple representation systems starting from intuitive representations and moving gradually to more sophisticated ones, b) solve a variety of familiar and meaningful problems, and c) overcome the cognitive load of the syntactical rules of programming in C by using appropriately designed computer-based authoring tools. A similar environment has not yet been reported.

We discuss our experience form porting the OpenH323 platform to IPv6. We briefly discuss the structure of the platform, and we present the various problems we faced and choices we made, regarding the easiest approach to the porting procedure, the compatibility with earlier, IPv4-only versions of the platform, the existence of tools that could aid us with the porting task and the verification of results. We believe that the results of our effort can serve as guidelines for other similar projects and we present a general methodology which might be applicable to similar porting projects.

The increased need for quality of service (QoS) in today's networks has concentrated a lot of research and implementation efforts. Particular interest exists for the exploitation of the DiffServ framework towards the provision of qualitative services in MAN and WAN worldwide. Although individual mechanisms have been widely investigated, not many references to studies combining all levels of priority and QoS provisioning exist. This work aims at presenting a thorough and unified approach to the dimensioning and provisioning of a high priority service for high-quality demanding traffic over a MAN/WAN environment. Our approach anticipates for bounds in specific quality metrics and is demonstrated by the experimental case-study of a high-priority service over a MAN topology.

A lot of research work has recently focused on the exploitation of the DiffServ framework towards building reliable networking services that provide deterministic quality guarantees. In this work we are attempting to devise a DiffServ-based service model for relative differentiation of traffic in a network serving aggregated traffic. The service model proposed aims at providing a minimum capacity during congestion and a bounded average end-to-end delay to profile-conforming traffic, obtaining thus a relatively better performance when compared to the best-effort service. We provide the framework on which the proposed service model is based and we present results from its deployment in a simulation environment.

In this paper a new blind image-adaptive watermarking technique is proposed. The main contributions in this work are the following. First, a new spatial mask taking into account the Human Visual System (HVS) properties, is proposed. The mask is constructed based on the local variance of the cover image prediction error sequence. Second, an improved detection scheme has been developed, which is blind, in the sense that no knowledge concerning the cover image is required. The similarity measure used in the detector is the normalized correlation between the reproduced watermark and the prediction error of the watermarked and possibly attacked image (instead of the image itself). Due to the above modifications the proposed technique exhibits superior performance as compared to the conventional HVS-based blind adaptive watermarking. This performance improvement has been justified theoretically and verified through extensive simulations. In particular, the proposed technique is robust to additive white noise, JPEG and Wavelet compression, filtering etc.
