Time series forecasting using transformer neural network

Time series forecasting is a vital component of data science, giving essential insights that help decision-makers to predict future trends across a number of sectors. This paper focuses on projecting complicated stock market price dynamics, weather data variations, and hourly traffic occupancy rates. The Informer-Based Time Series Forecasting (IBTSF) model, which employs a transformer-based architecture to capture long-term relationships and give probabilistic predictions, is *** model is assessed against Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU) model to benchmark its performance. Simulation findings demonstrate that the IBTSF model considerably outperforms other models across all datasets. For traffic data, the IBTSF model achieves a Mean Squared Error (MSE) of 10.1 and a Mean Absolute Scaled Error (MASE) of 1.69, compared to other model's larger mistakes. In stock data forecasting, the IBTSF model reports an MSE of 8.04 and a MASE of 1.53, again outperforming other models. Similarly, using meteorological data, the IBTSF model obtains an MSE of 86.12 and a MASE of 0.7, whereas other models fall short. These results underline the IBTSF model's resilience and accuracy in capturing subtle patterns and relationships within time series data, giving precise insights that benefit decision-making processes. © 2024 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Emotion recognition in text has become an essential research area within artificial intelligence and natural language processing due to its applications in sentiment analysis, human-computer interaction, and social media analysis. This paper introduces an approach for emotion recognition in social networks using transformer models enhanced with explainability techniques. By leveraging the advanced capabilities of transformers to analyze and classify emotions in written content, our finetuned models achieves high accuracy in identifying emotions according to the Ekman emotional model. The integration of LIME and SHAP provides transparency and interpretability to our model, making it more trustworthy for practical applications. Our findings indicate that models like XLNET report an exceptional performance in emotion recognition tasks. The explainability techniques illustrate the transformer model decision-making processes and the way that they utilize words and their continual information in sentences. © 2024 IEEE.

If adversaries were to obtain quantum computers in the future, their massive computing power would likely break existing security schemes. Since security is a continuous process, more substantial security schemes must be developed. Current PQC schemes primarily focus on data security or key exchange, and further improvement towards enhanced PQC primitives is required. Our proposal in this research is an innovative paradigm for PQC-focused cloud data security. The proposed HEDT approach achieves encryption and decryption with significantly lower latency (20% improvement) and higher reliability than AES, DES, and RSA, as demonstrated through experimental results. Furthermore, ECSIDH, a hybrid key exchange mechanism combining SIDH and ECDH, improves security strength by 50% while maintaining computational costs within 1.13x of SIDH. Compared to individual key exchange schemes like SIDH, ECSIDH offers superior security as a PQC candidate. These results confirm the robustness and efficiency of the proposed framework in ensuring secure data outsourcing and key exchange in cloud environments. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. The Vehicle Routing Problem with pickups, deliveries and spatiotemporal service constraints (VRPPDSTC) is a quite challenging algorithmic problem that can be dealt with in either an offline or an online fashion. In this work, we focus on a generalization, called VRPPDSTCtd, in which the travel-time metric is time-dependent: the traversal-time per road segment (represented as a directed arc) is determined by some function of the departure-time from its tail towards its head. Time-dependence makes things much more complicated, even for the simpler problem of computing earliest-arrival-time paths which is a crucial subroutine to be solved (numerous times) by VRPPDSTCtd schedulers. We propose two online schedulers of requests to workers, one which is a time-dependent variant of the classical Plain-Insertion heuristic, and an extension of it trying to digest some sort of forecasts for future demands for service. We enrich these two online schedulers with two additional heuristics, one targeting for distance-balanced assignments of work loads to the workers and another that makes local-search-improvements to the produced solutions. We conduct a careful experimental evaluation of the proposed algorithms on a real-world instance, with or without these heuristics, and compare their quality with human-curated assignments provided by professional experts (human operators at actual pickup-and-delivery control centers), and also with feasible solutions constructed from a relaxed MILP formulation of VRPPDSTCtd, which is also introduced in this paper. Our findings are quite encouraging, demonstrating that the proposed algorithms produce solutions which (i) are significant improvements over the human-curated assignments, and (ii) have overall quality pretty close to that of the (extremely time-consuming) solutions provided by an exact solver for the MILP formulation. © Spyros Kontogiannis, Andreas Paraskevopoulos, and Christos Zaroliagis.

In the dynamic landscape of online social networks, recognizing sensitive content is essential for safeguarding user privacy, fostering inclusivity, and enhancing diversity awareness. Building on prior research, this study explores new dimensions and methodologies for detecting sensitive content. We examine the temporal evolution of sensitive content, revealing how patterns shift over time, and address cross-linguistic challenges, emphasizing cultural and contextual nuances in detection. We employ advanced machine learning techniques, including deep learning models and BERT that improve the accuracy and robustness of the detection procedure. In the experimental study, BERT transformer reported the best performance in detecting sensitive content in text. Additionally, we incorporate explainability techniques such as LIME and SHAP to provide deeper insights into the model's decision-making processes, ensuring predictions are interpretable and reliable. Our work enhances the theoretical framework of sensitive content detection in social networks and provide methods that are accurate and scalable and can facilitate the creation of user-centric interaction that prioritize privacy and user experience. © 2024 IEEE.

Fulfilling increasing performance demands of space and automotive applications can be problematic as high dependability is required. Memory is one of the most radiationsensitive parts, so it is often protected with information redundancy. This paper describes an integration of error correction and detection techniques into the interface of RISC-V processor to protect the data stored in the memory. We also provide a hardware-software interface for reporting errors and software routines for correcting data in memory. Our solution has a negligible impact (-3.9%) on the overall performance of the core with a small area and power consumption overhead. © 2024 IEEE.

With the growth of the World Wide Web, a large amount of music data is available on the Internet. A large number of people listen to music online rather than downloading and listening offline. But only some sites provide personalized and accurately recommended songs while they listen to an auto-playing playlist. Hence the need for recommendation systems arises. Two approaches can be applied to the recommendation system: content based filtering and collaborative filtering. While in content-based filtering approach, analysis on the songs’ content which has been preferred by the user in history is done and the songs with relative similarity are recommended. While latter suggests songs that certain users of similar listening pattern have preferred. But collaborative filtering-based recommendation systems not only requires time to attain stability but also might recommend unsuitable music because it is not personalized to each user’s preference. Also, the latter requires the songs to be listened by a few users already to recommend it any other user. Hence for overall analysis, answers to few questions need to be implemented in recommendation systems: the very first one is how the properties should be analyzed, next one is how the analysis should be done and last is how the songs related to the user’s preference should be chosen. So, for suggesting the better system which solves these three questions as well as provides better and personalized recommendations, In this paper we build a collaborative filtering as well as content based filtering recommendation system, where various factors determine the essence of the songs, i.e. liveliness, keys used, loudness, pitch, valence, etc., are analyzed for comparison. From the experimental analysis in has been identified that content-based filtering technique performed best on KNN machine learning classifier with accuracy of 85%. © 2024 Slovene Society Informatika. In today's rapidly developing world, mental health is very important because it directly impacts the human thought process, productivity, relationships, etc. Being one of the most important aspects of a human's life, it is often neglected. Poor mental health can lead to anxiety, hopelessness, struggling to manage emotions, a lack of concentration, and loneliness. A mentally ill person can also have suicidal thoughts. In today's world, almost every person uses social media to share their lives and thoughts. With social media serving as a ubiquitous platform for self-expression and interaction, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) techniques becomes feasible for detecting mental health statuses based on users' social media posts. In this research paper, we proposed a methodology using NLP Transformers to study human behaviour as well as symptoms of depression. We analysed the status of mental health by examining the text of posts posted by different people on Twitter and Reddit. In our proposed methodology, we applied 4 different NLP Transformers (BERT, XLNet, RoBERTa, and DistilBERT) Transformers on two different datasets. Our proposed model concluded that DistilBert was the most accurate Transformer among the four with accuracy with 91% accuracy on twitter dataset and 84% accuracy on reddit dataset. Our proposed methodology will be effective in detecting mental illness in a person. © 2024 IEEE.

Breathing problems that get worse over time are a symptom of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. It is a catch-all phrase for a number of conditions including asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. It is defined by a progressive constriction of the airways and an early aging of the lungs. Experts have attested to the fact that early identification helps lessen the symptoms of COPD. Thus, using GOLD criteria, patients' COPD severity can be predicted using contemporary methods like machine learning algorithms. The proposed prediction models predict severity of COPD of the patient on a scale of 1 to 4 as prescribed by the GOLD system. Our model was trained to utilize a derived feature set and machine learning classifiers, such as SVC, Random Forest Classifier, XGBoost classifier, Naive Bayes, and Hard Voting Ensemble, with the best possible parameter choice to achieve a commendable accuracy of 97.6%. The global COPD epidemic will be lessened with the use of this method and medical professionals' experience. © 2024 IEEE.

Model-to-Circuit Cross-Approximation for Printed Machine Learning Classifiers

Printed electronics (PEs) promises on-demand fabrication, low nonrecurring engineering costs, and subcent fabrication costs. It also allows for high customization that would be infeasible in silicon, and bespoke architectures prevail to improve the efficiency of emerging PE machine learning (ML) applications. Nevertheless, large feature sizes in PE prohibit the realization of complex ML models in PE, even with bespoke architectures. In this work, we present an automated, cross-layer approximation framework tailored to bespoke architectures that enable complex ML models, such as multilayer perceptrons (MLPs) and support vector machines (SVMs), in PE. Our framework adopts cooperatively a hardware-driven coefficient approximation of the ML model at algorithmic level, a netlist pruning at logic level, and a voltage overscaling at the circuit level. Extensive experimental evaluation on 12 MLPs and 12 SVMs and more than 6000 approximate and exact designs demonstrates that our model-to-circuit cross-approximation delivers power and area optimal designs that, compared to the state-of-the-art exact designs, feature on average 51% and 66% area and power reduction, respectively, for less than 5% accuracy loss. Finally, we demonstrate that our framework enables 80% of the examined classifiers to be battery-powered with almost identical accuracy with the exact designs, paving thus the way toward smart complex printed applications. © 1982-2012 IEEE.
