Substance abuse is the unrestrained and detrimental use of psychoactive chemical substances, unauthorized drugs, and alcohol that can ultimately lead a human to disastrous consequences. As patients with this behavior display a high value of relapse, the best intervention approach is to prevent it at the very beginning. In this paper, we propose a framework based on machine learning techniques to identify individual vulnerability towards substance abuse by analyzing socio-economic aspects. We have carefully assessed the commonly involved causes to form the questionnaire for collecting data from healthy people and patients suffering from substance abuse. Using Pearson’s chi-squared test of independence, feature importance is measured to eliminate less significant features using backward elimination. Popular machine learning classification algorithms (Random Forest, Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machine, K-Nearest neighbors, and Gaussian Naive Bayes) are used to build the predictive classifier. To identify the key risk-factors of individual substance abuse, we extract association rules from the significant features and subsequent factors. Cost-sensitive Computational Adequacy of Higher-order Recursion in Synthetic Domain Theory

We study a cost-aware programming language for higher-order recursion dubbed PCFcost in the setting of synthetic domain theory (SDT). Our main contribution relates the denotational cost semantics of PCFcost to its computational cost semantics, a new kind of dynamic semantics for program execution that serves as a mathematically natural alternative to operational semantics in SDT. In particular we prove an internal, cost-sensitive version of Plotkin’s computational adequacy theorem, giving a precise correspondence between the denotational and computational semantics for complete programs at base type. The constructions and proofs of this paper take place in the internal dependent type theory of an SDT topos extended by a phase distinction in the sense of Sterling and Harper. By controlling the interpretation of cost structure via the phase distinction in the denotational semantics, we show that PCFcost programs also evince a noninterference property of cost and behavior. We verify the axioms of the type theory by means of a model construction based on relative sheaf models of SDT. © 2024, CC BY.

The research presented in this paper aims at egg fertility detection during incubation based on the presence of the embryo. To obtain an optimal detection method that does not adversely affect the incubation process, the presented approach uses computer technology to analyze the images obtained from the egg candling process, and to obtain information about the presence of an egg embryo. This study applies the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier method using the second-order statistical feature extraction input to detect the chicken egg's fertility. The feature extraction is based on the Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) approach with 6 parameters: Energy (En), Contrast (Ct), Entropy (Et), Variance (V), Correlation (Cr), and Homogeneity (H). This study develops a manual detection process that takes a long time and improves the research accuracy of the backpropagation method. The dataset used consisted of 100 images of chicken eggs, including 50 images for each type: fertile and infertile. The preprocessing of the images included cropping, grayscaling, and image enhancement using CLAHE (Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization) and HE (Histogram Equalization) methods. Such process can improve the image to get its GLCM parameters. The extracted GLCM parameters are input to the egg fertility detection process performed by the SVM classifier-based method. The presented SVM-GLCM approach was able to detect fertile and infertile eggs with a success rate of 98.20%, which was an improvement over the previous research. This research can be a reference for implementing the detection of chicken egg fertility in the incubation machine to obtain optimal hatching results. © 2022 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

Web services have significantly expanded and become a key enabling technology for online data, application and resource sharing. Designing new methods for efficient and reliable web service recommendation has been of tremendous importance with the growing usage and prominence of web services. It would be ideal for a system to suggest online services that are in line with consumers’ preferences without requesting specific query information from them. Quality of Service (QoS) is vital for characterising non-functional aspects of Web services as they become more prevalent and widely used on the World Wide Web. The KnowSOntoWSR framework, which is built on a knowledge-driven and semantically inclined model that adheres to QoS ontology, is proposed in this research. AWS and WebSphere are employed as knowledge tags, and the powerful machine learning classifier XGBoost is applied. The features and recommendations are computed using the Twitter semantic similarity. The proposed framework outperforms the baseline models’ estimates with an accuracy of 95.94% and average F-measure of 95.93%. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The Internet of Things (IoT) systems include a massive number of connected devices. The communication between these devices requires a huge amount of communication. Thus, it is very crucial for an IoT system to reduce communication volumes by minimizing the amount of data transmission. There are several approaches to achieving the goal of data transmission reduction, such as data compression and dual prediction. Dual prediction schemes received more attention in comparison to data compression. The mainstream techniques for proposing dual prediction schemes in the literature can be classified into two main groups, namely, filter-based and deep learning-based methods. The filter-based methods, such as the 1-D Kalman filter, are lightweight in terms of running time and the model’s memory requirements. On the other hand, deep learning-based methods require more memory space and training time, but deep learning models are more accurate as predictive models in comparison to filter-based methods in dual prediction schemes. There are very limited efforts to utilize machine learning methods in dual prediction schemes as a compromise between the aforementioned mainstream techniques. In this work, we extended one of these limited efforts, which utilizes boosting ensemble learning as a machine learning predictive method in a proposed dual prediction scheme. The current work proposes exploring the performance gap between the three main approaches to ensemble learning, namely, boosting, stacking, and bagging. The three proposed ensemble learning models are evaluated on a real dataset and compared against state-of-the-art methods. The obtained results show that among the ensemble learning models, boosting and bagging models are better than the stacking model, but the three proposed ensemble learning models outperformed the state-of-the-art methods of comparison. This paper deals with the problem of detecting the malware by using emulation approach. Modern malware include various avoid techniques, to hide its anomaly actions. Advantages of using sandbox and emulation technologies are described. Various anti-emulation techniques that are used in modern malware considered. Obfuscation as one primary approach to hide malware malicious actions described and discussed. State of emulator is presented, and the advantages of its usage are covered. Distributed model for malware detection is considered. Basic emulator and its current capabilities presented. Prepared files that represent malware are described. Experimental results for developed files that differs with included avoid techniques are presented. Disadvantages of proposed approach is described. The medium access control (MAC) protocol plays a crucial role in wireless communications, influencing key performance metrics, such as energy consumption, delay, collision, and throughput. This paper introduces the Contend Node Restricted Joint Consecutive Packet Transmissions Receiver-Initiated (CNR-CPT-RI) protocol, specifically designed to minimize collisions and reduce energy consumption in wake-up radio-enabled wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The CNR-CPT-RI protocol is an effective communication protocol that is mainly applied with nodes in the one-hop range of the sink. Since the sink has the ability to control each node, it becomes feasible to manage the nodes in a way that effectively reduces collisions and enhances network lifetime as well as throughput. Moreover, the CNR-CPT-RI protocol can adaptively adjust the number of nodes participating in channel contention, maintaining it within an optimal range to balance reduced collisions, decreased energy consumption, and sustained high throughput. Furthermore, the winning node in channel contention employs Consecutive Packet Transmissions (CPTs) method to further diminish competition. Comprehensive theoretical and experimental results demonstrate that the number of collisions of the CNR-CPT-RI protocol is only 42.4%, 35.9%, and 32.5% of the baseline protocol when the number of nodes is 10, 20, and 30, respectively. The energy consumption of the CNR-CPT-RI protocol is reduced by 5.7%, 15%, and 22.6%, and the delay is decreased by 6.7%, 16%, and 32%, respectively, compared with that of the existing protocol. © 2017 IEEE.

In this paper, we consider a novel hybrid reconfigurable intelligent surface (HRIS) consisting of active as well as passive reflecting elements mounted on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The aim is to improve air-to-ground communication by assisting multiple users, while detecting several moving targets. We formulate an optimization model that account for statistical channel estimation errors (SCEEs) to concurrently fine-tune both active and passive phase-shift matrices, UAV trajectory and transmit beamformer for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), while aiming to maximize the overall achievable sum-rate. Subsequently, we introduce an alternating optimization algorithm that employs a repetitive method to address the combinatorial nonconvex optimization problem and ultimately yielding a solution that is nearly optimal. Using Monte Carlo simulations, we showcase the superiority of the suggested approach in comparison to baseline schemes. © 2024 IEEE.

As an integral part of the global supply chain network, Indonesian supply chain entities should understand conditional seaport risk factors that could lead to seaport threats that affect supply chain continuity. This study aims to provide a procedure for evaluating the interdependencies, implications, and correlations among various seaport risk factors for supply chain threats, specifically by investigating current practices in the developed economic region of Indonesian seaport operations. The study uses a rough set method to solve feature selection problems and multivariate analysis of variance to assess the correlation between dependent and independent variables. We find 39 conditional seaport risk factors that are potentially influenced by about 21 dependent factors related to seaport-fulcrum supply chain entities. Furthermore, threats from the planning process, infrastructure, seaport service process, distribution process, financial costs of nuclear enterprises and security existed and affluent highest potential risk in Indonesia. © 2023, The Author(s).
