In this paper, we propose a multi-microphone joint optimal estimation of the direction of arrival (DOA) and the source speech signal through newly introduced EM beamforming. This produces a posterior PDF for the DOA, based only on the reliable speech spectrum. By maximizing over the posterior PDF of the DOA, we achieve maximum a posteriori DOA estimation. After convergence, the estimated source spectrum through weighted sum in the Bayesian sense is a maximum likelihood estimate (MLE). This is a sufficient statistic for minimum mean square error (MMSE) optimal estimation using a subsequent single channel MMSE filter.

The design of an efficient collaborative multirobot framework that ensures the autonomy and the individual requirements of the involved robots is a very challenging task. This requires designing an efficient platform for inter-robot communication. P2P is a good approach to achieve this goal. P2P aims at making the communication ubiquitous thereby crossing the communication boundary and has many attractive features to use it as a platform for collaborative multi-robot environments. In this work, we present the JXTA Overlay P2P system and its application for robot control. Since JXTA-Overlay is able to overcome Firewalls, Routers and NATs, it is possible to control end-devices in a WAN without changing the network security policy. We used JXTA-Overlay for the control of robot motors. We evaluated the proposed system by many experiments and have shown that the proposed system has a good performance and can be used successfully for robot control.

Advanced visualization technologies are gaining major importance to interpret, present and manipulate high dimensional biomedical data. Since new health technologies are constantly increasing in complexity, adequate information processing is required for diagnostics, therapy planning and treatment. The combination of advanced visualization resources and biomedical grid infrastructures is a promising approach to build dynamic and scalable problem solving environments for such tasks. Visualization then becomes the main issue in system-user interaction, and is therefore a crucial factor in the usefulness of the complete system for the domain researchers. In this paper, two remote visualization approaches to utilize the capabilities of such an environment are presented and evaluated. Evaluation criteria are performance, usability, adaptivity and functionality. Both, an open source and a commercial solution are considered. While the proprietary software shows better performance, the open source solution offers the advantage for seamless grid integration. © 2010 IEEE.

This Letter reports on a search for narrow high-mass resonances decaying into dilepton final states. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment in pp collisions at s=7 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 1.08 (1.21) fb−1 in the e+e− (μ+μ−) channel. No statistically significant excess above the standard model expectation is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% C.L. on the cross section times branching fraction of Z′ resonances and Randall-Sundrum gravitons decaying into dileptons as a function of the resonance mass. A lower mass limit of 1.83 TeV on the sequential standard model Z′ boson is set. A Randall-Sundrum graviton with coupling k/M¯Pl=0.1 is excluded at 95% C.L. for masses below 1.63 TeV.

In recent years, Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs) are continuing to attract the attention for their potential use in several fields. Mobility and the absence of any fixed infrastructure make MANETs very attractive for mobility and rescue operations and time-critical applications. In this paper, we present the implementation and analysis of our implemented MANET testbed considering the Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol. We consider two models. One when all the nodes are static and another one when one node is moving. The mobile node moves toward the destination at a regular speed and when arrives at the corner of stairs is stops for about three seconds. In this work, we assess the performance of our MANET testbed in terms of throughput and packet loss. From our experiments, we found that the OLSR protocol has a good performance when nodes are in stationary state. However, when the node moves the throughput is decreased. We observed that the number of packet loss increases after 2-hops for static model and after 1-hop for moving model. But, when the node is moving, the packet loss for 2-hops to 4-hops is almost the same.

This Letter presents the first search for a heavy particle decaying into an e±μ∓ final state in s=7 TeV pp collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS detector during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Exclusions at 95% confidence level are placed on two representative models. In an R-parity violating supersymmetric model, tau sneutrinos with a mass below 0.75 TeV are excluded, assuming all R-parity violating couplings are zero except λ311′=0.11 and λ312=0.07. In a lepton flavor violating model, a Z′-like vector boson with masses of 0.70–1.00 TeV and corresponding cross sections times branching ratios of 0.175–0.183 pb is excluded. These results extend to higher mass R-parity violating sneutrinos and lepton flavor violating Z’s than previous constraints from the Tevatron.

Azimuthal decorrelations between the two central jets with the largest transverse momenta are sensitive to the dynamics of events with multiple jets. We present a measurement of the normalized differential cross section based on the full data set (∫Ldt=36 pb−1) acquired by the ATLAS detector during the 2010 s=7 TeV proton-proton run of the LHC. The measured distributions include jets with transverse momenta up to 1.3 TeV, probing perturbative QCD in a high-energy regime.

This Letter presents the first search for supersymmetry in final states containing one isolated electron or muon, jets, and missing transverse momentum from s=7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC. The data were recorded by the ATLAS experiment during 2010 and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1. No excess above the standard model background expectation is observed. Limits are set on the parameters of the minimal supergravity framework, extending previous limits. Within this framework, for A0=0 GeV, tan β=3, and μ>0 and for equal squark and gluino masses, gluino masses below 700 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level.

Segmentation of neural stem cells is the preliminary step to treat and cure several brain neural diseases. There exist a number of methods to accomplish this task. However, all of these methods suffer from some problems, such as high intensity variation sensitivity, human interaction and high computational complexity. In this paper we proposed a novel edge-detection-based neural stem cell image segmentation algorithm using the local complex phase characteristics. The proposed method is an illumination and contrast invariant measurement of edge significance. Our contributions are that, local weighting summation Gaussian kernel convolution and a new model for phase deviation weighting function are introduced into the proposed model to improve the local phase measurement. In experiments, we show that the proposed method is more accurate and reliable than three existing gradient-based edge detection algorithms and Kovesi's model for neural stem cell image segmentation.
