The paper discusses formulas and interpretations of the fine structure constant (FSC) and the Number Archetype 137 taking into account of our earlier results and the concept of the “undetached observer” of Pauli. A new “controlling-.observing equation” is proposed for the reinterpretation of FSC and other Number Archetypes on the basis of Hermeneutics found in W. Pauli and C. G. Jung “Correspondence”.

In this paper, we present the implementation and analysis of our implemented testbed considering the Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol. We investigate the effect of mobility and topology changing in the throughput of a Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). The mobile nodes move toward the destination at a regular speed. When the mobile nodes arrive at the corner, they stop for about three seconds. Experimental time is 150 seconds. In this work, we consider 6 models and we assess the performance of our testbed in terms of throughput, round trip time and packet loss. From our experiments, we found that the OLSR protocol has a good performance when the source node is moving. However, the performance is not good when the relay nodes are moving.

Service-oriented architecture can be considered as a philosophy or paradigm in organizing and utilizing services and capabilities that may be under the control of different ownership domains. Virtualization provides abstraction and isolation of lower level functionalities, enabling portability of higher level functions and sharing of physical resources. However, dynamics, environmental conditions and increasing complexity / heterogeneity of underlying resources call for adaptive resource handling. In this view an intelligent distributed architecture that enables dynamic user management and control on network-wide resource sharing by using the service oriented architecture concept is presented. Additionally, the proposed architecture supports trading of resources that will enable the transformation of traditional business models.

Resting tremor (RT) is one of the most frequent signs of the Parkinson's disease (PD), occurring with various severities in about 75% of the patients. Current diagnosis is based on subjective clinical assessment, which is not always easy to capture subtle, mild and intermittent tremors. The aim of the present study is to assess the suitability and clinical value of a computer based real-time system as an aid to diagnosis of PD, in particular the presence of RT. Five healthy subjects were asked to simulate several severities of RT in hands and feet in three static activities. The behaviour of the subjects is measured using tri-axial accelerometers, which are placed at four different positions on the body. Frequency-domain features, strongly correlated with the RT activity, are extracted from the accelerometer data. The classification of RT severity based on those features, provided accuracy 76%. The real-time system designed for efficient extraction of those features and the provision of a continuous RT severity measure is described.

In this paper, we present the implementation and analysis of our testbed considering the link quality window size (LQWS) parameter of optimized link state routing (OLSR) and better approach to mobile ad-hoc networking (B.A.T.M.A.N.) protocols. We investigate the effect of mobility in the throughput of a mobile ad-hoc network (MANET). The mobile nodes move toward the destination at a regular speed. When the mobile nodes arrive at the corner, they stop for about three seconds. In our experiments, we consider two cases: only one node is moving (mobile node)and two nodes (intermediate nodes) are moving at the same time. We assess the performance of our testbed in terms of throughput, round trip time, jitter and packet loss. From our experiments, we found that throughput of TCP was improved by reducing LQWS.

Consider a network vulnerable to viral infection, where the security software can guarantee safety only to a limited part of it. We model this practical network scenario as a non-cooperative multi-player game on a graph, with two kinds of players, a set of attackers and a protector player, representing the viruses and the system security software, respectively. We are interested in the associated Nash equilibria, where no network entity can unilaterally improve its local objective. We obtain the following results: For certain families of graphs, mixed Nash equilibria can be computed in polynomially time. These families include, among others, regular graphs, graphs with perfect matchings and trees. The corresponding price of anarchy for any mixed Nash equilibria of the game is upper and lower bounded by a linear function of the number of vertices of the graph. (We define the price of anarchy to reflect the utility of the protector). Finally, we introduce a generalised version of the game. We show that the existence problem of pure Nash equilibria here is NP-complete. Copyright © 2008 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Web services serve as a leading technology platform for web-based data-centric environments providing flexibility of loose coupling, message-based communication. Interest in more efficient web services selection strategies is rather requisite especially from the business process workflow perspective. We present several strategies to efficiently select a set of web services performing a workflow, fulfilling quality specifications at all workflow steps. The focus is on finding the best performing web service given a history of the execution times and current measured variation in operating system and network resource consumption. To assess their efficiency, we experimentally evaluate them and present comparative results, which strongly indicate that they can effectively reduce the overall workflow execution time in a web service-based workflow with QoS constraints. Approaches are presented for a number of workflows depending on their particular characteristics. Copyright © 2008 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.

Abstract One way of handling Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) is based on the concept, that the robot acts like an animal companion to human. According to this paradigm the Robot should not be molded to mimic the human being, and form human-to-human like communication, but to follow the existing biological examples and form inter-species interaction. The 20.000 year old human-dog relationship is a good example for this paradigm of the HRI, as interaction of different species. One good reason of this approach in HRI is the lack of the “uncanny valley” effect i.e. increasing similarity of robots to humans will actually increase the chances that humans refuse interaction (will be frightened). In this paper, for ethologically inspired HRI model implementation, a fuzzy model structure built upon the framework of low computational demand Fuzzy Rule Interpolation (FRI) methods and fuzzy automaton is suggested. The application of FRI methods fits well the conceptually “spare rule-based” structure of the existing descriptive verbal ethological models. (In case of the descriptive verbal ethological models, the “completeness” of the rule-base is not required). The main benefit of the FRI method adaptation in ethological model implementation is the fact, that it has a simple rule-based knowledge representation format. Because of this, even after numerical optimization of the model, the rules are still “human readable”, and helps the formal validation of the model by the ethological experts. On the other side due to the FRI base, the model has still low computational demand and fits directly the requirements of the embedded implementations. For demonstrating the applicability of the proposed structure, some components of a human-dog interaction FRI model, which also suitable for HRI, will be briefly introduced in this paper.

Because of the growing complexity of networks and the difficult task of security policy enforcement, system administrators need simple and powerful security management tools. This paper presents a network security management tool that allows policy specification and administration of network security components such as firewall. The tool consists of four main modules. First module is considered the network repository of our toolkit. Through the second module the security policy is introduced and the necessary validation and verification is done by a policy engine. The third module is responsible for the translation of the high level security policy into an intermediate model level. Finally, the intermediate level is translated automatically into a vendor-specific security mechanism through the vendor specific compiler.

In this paper, we propose a new scheme for on demand reservation of capacity in OBS networks, emulating one-way signaling protocols. The proposed framework relies on the combination of a two-way reservation protocol and a burst assembly scheme with a burstification delay enforced to be the round-trip-time and which incorporates a Least Mean Square filter to predict burst length. Upon the arrival of the first packet in the burst queue, a control packet (setup message) is generated and transmitted to reserve resources, based on the prediction filter. In this way the reservation process starts/ends simultaneously with the burst assembly process. In this paper, we present the main features of the proposed scheme, evaluate its performance for both homogeneous and non-homogeneous traffic and we further propose an extension with aggressive overprovisioning of resources that can guarantee lossless operation even for extremely cases of bursty traffic.
