In this paper a working multimedia asset management system is presented which provides the means for storage, annotation, retrieval and re-use of any multimedia data such as 3D objects, images, sound, video and text. The working prototype is modular, customizable, secure, offers intranet and Internet connectivity and also software inter-operability as it can be compatible with various well- known, established database and ontology standards. The main innovative aspects of the proposed system are the efficient combination of the semantic aspects with multimedia data and the retrieval engine of the system which combines state-of-the-art 3D content-based algorithms and novel semantic driven, relevance feedback methods.

Changes in engineering for development of product in the direction of increased complexity, more variants, and customer demand orientation stimulates implementation of advanced information technology in the form of virtual space. For this reason, concept of integrated product model has been implemented in comprehensive descriptions for lifecycle management of product information. Communication between engineer and modeling procedure is a critical factor. The authors identified data orientation of the recent integrated product modeling as a barrier for more efficient communication on user interfaces of product modeling systems. As a possible contribution to development of solution for this problem in industrial professional modeling systems, they propose content oriented layers between human and data oriented models in this paper. Following this, integration issues in content oriented product model are discussed. Next, relevant functions and modeling techniques for the handling of modeled object information are introduced and evaluated. Finally, a method is shown for the propagation of changes initiated for modeled objects in their affect zones.

Multicasting is an efficient way for delivering rich multimedia applications to large user groups as it allows the transmission of packets to multiple destinations using fewer network resources. Content and service providers are increasingly interested in supporting multicast communications over wireless networks and in particular over Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS). To this direction, the third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is currently standardizing the Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service (MBMS) framework of UMTS. In this paper, we present an overview of the MBMS multicast mode of UMTS. We analytically present the multicast mode of the MBMS and analyze its performance in terms of packet delivery cost under various network topologies, cell environments and multicast users' distributions. Furthermore, for the evaluation of the scheme, we consider different transport channels for the transmission of the data over the UTRAN interfaces and propose a cost based scheme for the efficient radio bearer selection that minimizes the packet delivery cost.

Brain activation detection is an important problem in fMRI data analysis. In this paper, we propose a data-driven activation detection method called neighborhood one-class SVM (NOC-SVM). By incorporating the idea of neighborhood consistency into one-class SVM, the method classifies a voxel as an activated or non-activated voxel by its neighbor weighted distance to a hyperplane in a high- dimensional kernel space. On two synthetic datasets under different SNRs, the proposed method almost has lower error rate than K-means clustering and fuzzy K-means clustering. On a real fMRI dataset, all the three algorithms can detect similar activated regions. Furthermore, the NOC-SVM is more stable than random algorithms, such as K-means clustering and fuzzy K-means clustering. These results show that the proposed NOC-SVM is a new effective method for activation detections in fMRI data.

The mobile cellular systems are expected to support multiple services with guaranteed quality of service (QoS). However, the ability of wireless systems to accommodate expected growth of traffic load and broadband services is limited by available radio frequency spectrum. Call admission control (CAC) is one of the resource management functions, which regulates network access to ensure QoS provisioning. However, the decision for CAC is very challenging issue due to user mobility, limited radio spectrum, and multimedia traffic characteristics. To deal with these problems, in this paper, we propose a fuzzy CAC system. We compare the performance of the proposed system with shadow cluster concept (SCC). We evaluate by simulation the performance of the proposed system. The proposed system has a good behavior on deciding the number of accepted connections while keeping the QoS for serving connections.

Future all-IP networks will support a variety of high-value IP-based services including the upcoming integration of today's non-IP services offered by mobile telecommunication providers. Besides postpaid charging, prepaid charging will play an important role in all-IP environments due to the financial control of providers and customers, thus determining effective economic management means for Internet services. Since existing prepaid charging solutions do not meet imposed all-IP requirements, a novel approach-TICA (time interval calculation algorithm)-with three variants has been presented recently in [14,16]. To prove its optimized performance for many service mixes foreseen, this paper performs a thorough evaluation based on different scenarios. Additionally, comparing TICA's overall performance with existing online charging solutions shows TICA's promising results in terms of way smaller quantity of credit checks required and smaller financial risks for providers to be achieved. Finally, the three TICA variants reveal a clear sensitivity to defined input parameters. These findings indicate that a numbers of suitable settings can be used by service providers.

Object categorization and recognition have proved to be difficult tasks in artificial intelligence for several decades. With the recent emergence of biologically inspired soft-computing methods, promising results in specialized application domains are more and more common. In this paper, we propose a novel object categorization method based on statistical properties of nodes -derived from the VFA model -and hierarchical temporal memories. A referential categorization method, obtained by feeding grayscale pixel levels to hierarchical temporal memories, is used to evaluate the model's performance. Results show that categorization based on the statistics of nodes seems to yield higher success rates. This is in correspondence with Biederman's conjecture in his theory of recognition by components (RBC), according to which the statistics of nodes, end points and corners carry essential and sufficient information for object recognition [1]. The first section of this paper consists of a brief introduction, in which we restate the formal definition of the VFA model, as well as present its node-filtering applications. This will be followed by a presentation of the HTM theory for size-and orientation-invariant object representation. Finally, we give a detailed case study in which a hierarchical temporal memory is used to distinguish between two, as well as several object categories.

The PosEye system is basically a position measurement system which takes images of the reference. The infra-red LEDs which emits IR lights is captured by the CCD and is used as the reference. In this system the absolute positioning and orientation were made with the help of a PosEye. The PosEye is normally fixed on a robot arm or the object which requires orientation of its own position in correspondence to its reference points in the working area. This paper discusses general ideas about reference markers, set-up procedures, and issues behind the sensor. This mainly includes the principles of PosEye sensor, basics of vision and cameras. The paper details the experiments in which results were obtained through the PosEye system with the help of electronics and PosEye camera. In the experimental setup, the connection of PosEye with the electronic application is presented, the usage of PosEye and the robot control system communication with the PosEye system using coordinate system. The working of the PosEye system is observed by taking images on the reference plate and finding the co-ordinates (x, y, z). The manipulation of the obtained images to the robot for a movement is also studied.

The source of nonlinearity are the hysteresis comparators and dependence of switchings on state variables in Direct Torque Controlled (DTC) Induction Machines (IM). The nonlinearity generates some strange operation states. They are revealed, analyzed by bifurcation diagram and recurrence plots both in motoring and generating operations.
