In this paper, we study the intricate realm of digital twin synchronization and deployment in multi-access edge computing (MEC) networks, with the aim of optimizing and balancing the two performance metrics Age of Information (AoI) and energy efficiency. We jointly consider the problems of edge association, power allocation, and digital twin deployment. However, the inherent randomness of the problem presents a significant challenge in identifying an optimal solution. To address this, we first analyze the feasibility conditions of the optimization problem. We then examine a specific scenario involving a static channel and propose a cyclic scheduling scheme. This enables us to derive the sum AoI in closed form. As a result, the joint optimization problem of edge association and power control is solved optimally by finding a minimum weight perfect matching. Moreover, we examine the one-shot optimization problem in the contexts of both frequent digital twin migrations and fixed digital twin deployments, and propose an efficient online algorithm to address the general optimization problem. This algorithm effectively reduces system costs by balancing frequent migrations and fixed deployments. Post-disaster needs assessment plays a critical role in developing emergency response programs and disaster preparedness. An assessment of needs identifies possible interventions or assistance and the necessary resources for emergency responses. This emergency need assessment assists stakeholders in defining possible response options, evaluating the priorities of needs of affected communities, and determining what support will be required immediately. The prevalent use of social media in Indonesia highlights its significance as a crucial means of acquiring prompt, effortless, individualized, and geo-specific information regarding the demands and requirements of communities impacted by a calamity. This study aims to analyze the tweets posted by local communities affected by the 2018 Central Sulawesi earthquakes, tsunami, and liquefaction using the Social Network Analysis (SNA) method based on machine learning and natural language processing. Through this analysis, we intend to observe the spatial interaction and relationship among the affected areas of communities for the needs and concerns after the disaster to enhance the relief operation. We found that social media users, government, and humanitarian organizations effectively shared information during the disaster. This study also underlined that the behavioral responses of individuals to disasters were not limited to the disaster-stricken areas but extended far beyond them. This action suggests that they were willing to exhibit a more empathetic, benevolent, and philanthropic demeanor in the face of such traumatic events.

We consider and analyze a dynamic model of random hyperbolic graphs with link persistence. In the model, both connections and disconnections can be propagated from the current to the next snapshot with probability ω∈[0,1). Otherwise, with probability 1−ω, connections are reestablished according to the random hyperbolic graphs model. We show that while the persistence probability ω affects the averages of the contact and intercontact distributions, it does not affect the tails of these distributions, which decay as power laws with exponents that do not depend on ω. We also consider examples of real temporal networks, and we show that the considered model can adequately reproduce several of their dynamical properties. Our results advance our understanding of the realistic modeling of temporal networks and of the effects of link persistence on temporal network properties.

Sri Lanka faces drinking water related issues often due to many reasons like weather changes, floods, droughts, and tsunamis, affecting the drinking water availability. In such instances, people find difficult to gather information regarding consumable drinking water availability. In order to facilitate the meeting of commercial water sellers and customers and to engage the general public and social services in addressing the drinking water problem, this study is focused on building both web and mobile applications. The web application was implemented with a selected set of functionalities such as social login, social sharing, geocoding, reverse geocoding, viewing, and filtering posts using Angular 6, *** web framework, and Leaflet. The mobile application was developed to direct the customers to the water availability location with a shortest path using the Dijkstra's algorithm. Case evaluation was conducted with the Rotaract Club members in Badulla and thinking aloud method was used to pick up the user's ideas while interacting with the system. It can be concluded that the created web and mobile applications would offer the public a clever way to draw attention to an issue with water availability, and the commercial water service providers are given a venue to market their services and locate potential customers. © 2023 IEEE.

In the modern era, technology has become an integral part of human life, particularly in image processing. This advanced technology is now applied to parking areas to identify vacant parking spaces. The application is designed to detect empty parking slots in real time using image data captured by a camera as input. The system then automatically scans for available parking spaces, displaying the results on the interface with green indicators for empty slots and red for occupied ones. The process involves several key stages, such as image pre-processing, image segmentation, and object detection. The system employs the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) method to enhance its object detection capabilities. This system achieves a high accuracy rate of 94%under well-lit conditions. This novel technology optimizes parking management, providing an effective and dependable method to monitor parking availability in real time.

Among the technologies of Field Coupled Nanocomputing (FCN), the newly proposed Atomic Silicon Quantum Dot (SiQD) has attracted considerable attention from the community. It works at room temperature, presents high speed, ultra-low energy consumption, and has high integration potential, being a promising alternative for the Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) paradigm. Nevertheless, the technology is still in its early stages. Although there are already some design rules proposals, no study investigates the effects of dangling bond placement defects on logic gates. This paper proposes a novel methodology for this purpose, the Systematic Analysis Model, and presents the results considering 2-input OR, XOR, AND, XNOR, and NAND gates. Moreover, we show two new alternative designs for the 2-input Y-shaped OR and T-shaped NAND gates, up to 12.5% more reliable than the state-of-the-art. We also propose a metric for the design’s reliability based on simulations using the SiQAD simulator.

Low altitude airspace economy applications will be of highly effective in a wide range of civil activities and will be a critical element in the smart cities of the future. In view of the main features of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), such as automatic piloting system, access to uninhabited areas, low cost compared to road and manned aircraft, shorter delivery time, and the ability to carry heavy payloads, it is important to recognize that UAVs can be used for a wide range of civil activities. With the development of these applications in full swing around the world, in addition to advanced communications technology and other related infrastructure, business demand and a favorable investment climate, clarity, definiteness and feasible regulations in the Taiwanese environment are also essential. Measuring Size of Enterprise Applications: Using Data Transaction Points in the Field

ContextEnterprise Applications are complex, effort-intensive applications that include most of the business processes of the enterprises. They differ from traditional software applications by their high reuse rates. Effort predictions for these applications are usually performed in ad-hoc fashion and results in large variation. Prediction models utilizing traditional software size measures do not produce accurate results as *** this paper, we aim to evaluate a novel size measurement method for Enterprise *** developed a size measurement method considering unique characteristics of EA projects. This method measures "changes" where pre-built functionality is not sufficient for customer requirements. With the claim that the number of data groups executed for a transaction should be reflected in the size, we defined the size measurement unit, Data Transaction Point (DTP). We proposed to measure size of an EA project as DTP in three categories: "unchanged"," changed" and "new". In order to understand the applicability of the method in real life, we evaluated the accuracy of effort estimations using DTP for multiple *** size measurement method has been evaluated through two different SAP implementation projects. For assessing the effort estimation accuracy, MMRE, MdMRE and PRED (30) metrics were calculated. For the first project, results were "0.21", "0.17", "0.90" respectively, and for the second project, results were "0.24", "0.19", "0.78" respectively. These results showed that accuracy of effort estimations for both projects were in acceptable and reliable *** empirical study revealed that the proposed size measurement method is an applicable method for EA projects. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are crucial in various applications, but their deployment on resource-constrained edge devices poses challenges. This study presents the Sum-of-Products (SOP) units for convolution, which utilize low-latency left-to-right bit-serial arithmetic to minimize response time and enhance overall performance. The study proposes a methodology for fusing multiple convolution layers to reduce off-chip memory communication and increase overall performance. An effective mechanism detects and skips inefficient convolutions after ReLU layers, minimizing power consumption without compromising accuracy. Furthermore, efficient tile movement guarantees uniform access to the fusion pyramid. An analysis demonstrates the utile stride strategy improves operational intensity. Two designs cater to varied demands: one focuses on minimal response time for mission-critical applications, and another focuses on resource-constrained devices with comparable latency. This approach notably reduced redundant computations, improving the efficiency of CNN deployment on edge devices. © 2024, CC BY.
