In this day and age where convenience is king a new competitor in the form of chat-bots has appeared which requires users to only have prior knowledge on the language the chat-bot converses in. When it comes to planning outings there are a multitude of criteria to be wary of to determine the ideal solution. This review paper will address the common issues with extracting meaningful information from the user utilizing modern NLP techniques, the required criteria in addition to the user input such as, real time weather information and communicable diseases pertaining to the outing location, to determine an ideal suggestion and finally the method in which said ideal suggestion is determined after prioritizing criteria. The conclusion underscores that while NLP applications might not entirely replace existing menu-based systems for outing planning, they excel in certain scenarios. Notably, NLP's innate capacity to comprehend user preferences and context allows it to offer tailored outing suggestions. Furthermore, the application's unique feature of dynamically adapting to user requests without necessitating a return to the home page adds a distinctive advantage to its usability. © 2024 IEEE.

The goal of whitespace correction is to fix space errors in arbitrary given text. For example, given the text whi te space correctio nwithTransf or mers, produce whitespace correction with Transformers. We compare two Transformer-based models, a characterlevel encoder-decoder model and a byte-level encoder-only model. We find that the encoderonly model is both faster and achieves higher quality. We provide an easy-To-use tool that is over 900 times faster than the previous best tool, with the same high quality. Our tool repairs text at a rate of over 200 kB/s on GPU, with a sequence-Averaged F1-score ranging from 87.5% for hard-To-correct text up to 99% for text without any spaces. © ACL-DEMO 2023. In response to the escalating demand for electricity, the aging process and inherent failures in power lines have become unavoidable challenges in their operational integrity. This research addresses the imperative need for a robust method to detect damage in power insulator disc images, introducing a novel feature extraction technique grounded in color intensity profile transformation and ensemble learning. For the purposes of the research, a specific dataset was developed based on publicly available images of power insulators. The collection consists of 9232 images of insulator discs which included 2184 images of damaged discs. The discernible damages include breakages and burnouts. Two distinct analysis variants were employed. In the first variant (V1), two classification groups were selected: disc with damages and disc without damages. In the second variant (V2), three classification groups were selected: discs without damage, broken discs, and burnout discs. The described research was divided into two successive stages. In the first of them (S1), the transformed color intensity profiles for the prepared data set were built and various machine learning models for their classification were trained and evaluated. In the next stage (S2), previously developed, highest efficient machine learning models, were used to make the detection of various damaged types of overhead line insulator discs. For the first stage of research high-performance results and a high value of the F1 score parameters were obtained (F1 score = 0.999 for the first variant (S1V1) and F1 score = 0.992 for the second variant (S1V2). In the second stage of research and the first variant (S2V1), the highest result of the F1 score was 0.932 and for the second variant (S2V2) F1 score was 0.930. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024.

It is necessary to collect data measured in open lands, whether for example for monitoring purposes or for border protection. The process of data transmission from active nodes and its next level to the cluster head (CH), followed by follow-up to arrive at the base station (BS), with safety and acceptability, are the main objectives of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The key benefits of wireless systems are low-cost system installation and loss-free data transfer. Weather conditions in the spacious area affect wireless data transmission that is done between sensor nodes in free space. This study attempted to ascertain the influence of atmospheric and meteorological conditions on the loss of data when utilizing the wireless data transmission systems in a wireless sensor network. For this reason, the volume of data transfer losses that happen in free space because of three types of weather conditions is the main discussion point. The meteorological criteria that can be considered in this research are temperature, clear weather, dust, and rain as the weather elements that affect the Iraqi climate. The correlation analysis's outcomes show that the amount of precipitation and the size of raindrops have a main effect on the losses of data transmission. From a practical point of view, there is no confirmed statistical evidence of the amount of loss in the volume of transmitted data as a result of the amount of rainfall with the use of different transmission frequencies. In this research, we designed an objective routing protocol called Fuzzy Clustering with Ant Colony System FCACS, which has been utilized as a simulation program using the MATLAB 2018b application. The practical results of the proposed protocol for data transmission in free space and under different weather conditions were examined, and the simulation results were compared with those of two well-known routing protocols, which are DEEC and Z-SEP. Efficient energy management is a cornerstone of advancing cognitive cities,where AI,IoT,and cloud computing seamlessly integrate to meet escalating global energy *** this context,the ability to forecast electricity consumption with precision is vital,particularly in residential settings where usage patterns are highly variable and *** study presents an innovative approach to energy consumption forecasting using a bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM)*** a dataset containing over twomillionmultivariate,time-series observations collected froma single household over nearly four years,ourmodel addresses the limitations of traditional time-series forecasting methods,which often struggle with temporal dependencies and non-linear *** bidirectional LSTM architecture processes data in both forward and backward directions,capturing past and future contexts at each time step,whereas existing unidirectional LSTMs consider only a single temporal *** design,combined with dropout regularization,leads to a 20.6%reduction in RMSE and an 18.8%improvement in MAE over conventional unidirectional LSTMs,demonstrating a substantial enhancement in prediction accuracy and *** to existing models—including SVM,Random Forest,MLP,ANN,and CNN—the proposed model achieves the lowest MAE of 0.0831 and RMSE of 0.2213 during testing,significantly outperforming these *** results highlight the model’s superior ability to navigate the complexities of energy usage patterns,reinforcing its potential application in AI-driven IoT and cloud-enabled energy management systems for cognitive *** integrating advanced machine learning techniqueswith IoT and cloud infrastructure,this research contributes to the development of intelligent,sustainable urban environments.

Recommendation systems are pivotal in industries like entertainment, where competitiveness is intense. This study enhances movie recommendations by utilizing rich datasets from IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, incorporating movie ratings, user profiles, audience scores, and critics' reviews. These elements were subjected to sentiment analysis to refine the data quality. We explored three filtering techniques: content-based, which analyzes movie features;collaborative, which processes user behavior patterns;and hybrid, combining both to leverage their strengths. The effectiveness of these methods was assessed using Mean Average Precision at k (MAP-k) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), with our results showing notable improvements in recommendation accuracy. For instance, the hybrid method achieved a MAP ©k of 0.271 and an RMSE of 0.634, indicating enhanced precision and reliability of the recommendations. These findings suggest significant potential for improving user satisfaction and retention in digital platforms, demonstrating the benefit of integrating diverse data sources and analytical techniques in recommendation systems.

This paper introduces a new methodology for optimization problems, combining the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) with Simi-stochastic search processes. Intelligent optimizations represent an advanced approach in machine learning and computer applications, aiming to reduce the number of features used in the classification process. Optimizing bioinformatics datasets is crucial for information systems that classify data for intelligent tasks. The proposed A-Proactive Grey Wolf Optimization (A-GWO) solves stagnation in GWO by applying a dual search with a Simi-stochastic search. This target is achieved by distributing the population into two groups using a different search technique. The model's performance is evaluated using two benchmarks: the Evolutionary Computation Benchmark (CEC 2005) and seven popular biological datasets. A-GWO demonstrates highly improved efficiency in comparision to the original GWO and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Specifically, it enhances exploration in 66% of CEC functions and achieves high accuracy in 70% of biological datasets. © The Author(s) 2024.

KDTL: knowledge-distilled transfer learning framework for diagnosing mental disorders using EEG spectrograms

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a well-known modality in neuroscience and is widely used in identifying and classifying neurological disorders. This paper investigates how EEG data can be used along with knowledge distillation-based deep learning models to detect mental disorders like epilepsy and sleep disorders. The EEG signals are converted into time–frequency plots using short-time Fourier transforms. Further, we propose a novel methodology for using knowledge distillation-based transfer learning (KDTL). Knowledge distillation is becoming quite prevalent in the machine learning field and is associated with various applications in our work;we propose its use in the detection of mental disorders from EEG spectrograms. We convert the EEGs using short-term Fourier transform to obtain time–frequency representation and apply teacher-student by first training a large teacher model and use knowledge distillation to train a student model. In our experiments, we found that ConvNext teacher and MobileNet student combination obtained better results. Our proposed KDTL approach is tested on two datasets with multiple cases, namely the Bonn and ISRUC datasets and obtain 98% and 95% accuracies, respectively. Further experimental results show that the overall KDTL methodology can obtain high classification accuracy across both datasets in binary and multiclass classifications and proves to be better than multiple prior works. Further, our KDTL approach provides a way to train lightweight models which have a smaller number of trainable parameters and thereby constitute lower training time overall. Our proposed KDTL-based approach obtained accurate results in diagnosing mental disorders from EEG spectrograms. Compared to other related methods, KDTL outperformed across tasks with obtained good results in both binary and multiclass classifications. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

In this work, we present a self-supervised dual constraint contrastive method for efficiently fine-tuning the vision-language pre-trained (VLP) models that have achieved great success on various cross-modal tasks, since full fine-tune these pre-trained models is computationally expensive and tend to result in catastrophic forgetting restricted by the size and quality of labeled datasets. Our approach freezes the pre-trained VLP models as the fundamental, generalized, and transferable multimodal representation and incorporates lightweight parameters to learn domain and task-specific features without labeled data. We demonstrated that our self-supervised dual contrastive model performs better than previous fine-tuning methods on MS COCO and Flickr 30K datasets on the cross-modal retrieval task, with an even more pronounced improvement in zero-shot performance. Furthermore, experiments on the MOTIF dataset prove that our self-supervised approach remains effective when trained on a small, out-of-domain dataset without overfitting. As a plug-and-play method, our proposed method is agnostic to the underlying models and can be easily integrated with different VLP models, allowing for the potential incorporation of future advancements in VLP models. © 2023 The Authors.
